Noticing that her weapons are barely managing to break through the creature's natural armor, she curses again. "This day is going great! Absolutely fantastic!" Nonetheless, she continues to try and chip away at it.

OOC: Botting Arnald for this round with a longbow attack.
DM Screen:
14/34
Longbow vs. Grick: 10Damage: 5
Grick CON Save: 8
Tentacles vs. Zelra: 15
Uragum WIS Save: 7
The grick's tentacles wrap around Zelra's main hand, keeping her first sword from striking. Her second scores a hit on the creature's flank, but doesn't even scratch the surface of its hide. Arnald's arrow does, sinking only past the surface of its natural armor. Despite the hit, it presses on, shifting aside of Sylyra's launched fire, and pushing through Uragum's frost.
Suddenly, all of the obelisks within the room pulse, and a purplish wave of energy spreads from them. Uragum, the mighty goliath and victor of Phlan's fighting pits, finds himself frightened of this strange magic.
Round 3 Order: Players <===== Grick
Placement: The creature is engaged in melee combat with Zelra, and is 35 feet away from Sylyra and Uragum and 50 feet away from Arnald.

The slithering creature was ferocious, with its slimy tentacles and gaping maw. He wasn't going to get close to that thing. Really he wanted to run, but Sylyra would be done for. Shakingly, he drew the spell for more cold out and triggered it to hit the creature.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Sylyra falters, his look of confidence dropping for a second as he feels the others' upper hand slipping. He then narrows his eyes and loudly speaks a sentence in druidic. At the end of the sentence, there is a flash of light just before him (30 feet from the grick) and a spectral hawk made of light and magic appears, hovering in the air.
Bonus: Spirit Totem: Hawk — I can use my reaction to give advantage to a missed attack and all perception checks within 30 feet of the totem are at advantage.
OOC: Sylyra will use his reaction to give advantage (basically, a reroll) to whomever misses next, Zelra or Arnald — but only Zelra's action, not her bonus attack ... unless her bonus attack is the only attack of the round that missed.
The elf then conjures another flame and tosses it at the creature.
Action: produce flame attack: 14, damage: 7 fire damage
Zelra stabs a shortsword into the grick's tentacles, forcing it to release its grip. Another burst of fire from Sylyra slams into the creature's face, and as it writhes away in pain, the rogue seizes the opportunity, stabbing straight into its beak. Its tentacles rear back for another attack, but a thick layer of frost freezes them in place before it can strike. As Uragum finishes casting, the creature falls still and dead on the stone floor.
Despite the victory, Uragum still finds his feet locked in fear, unable to move any closer toward the cage where the gnome girl still rocks, repeating, "Can't run away."
OOC: Arnald, Sylyra, Uragum, and Zelra have each received 67 XP for defeating the grick, bringing them to the cap of 100 XP for this part of the adventure.

Ola Survival: 12
Without direction from Rillo, the entrance to the secret prison has proven quite difficult to find. The coast is only a short jaunt from the Black Fist outpost at Phlan's docks, but Ola continues to traverse the rocky outline of the town, hoping to spot an opening above the waves.
Not wanting to be caught by surprise again, Sylyra says, "Look around. Make sure there isn't another one of those things hiding in here." And then he does just that.
OOC: We all get advantage on perception as long as the hawk spirit persists and we're in its aura.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Zelra nods and begins to look around the room as well. "Arnald, see if you can help Villonah. Maybe you'll be able to snap her out of whatever she's affected by."
"Damn good show Zelra," he shouts over him from this safe distance back. Then slaps Sylyra on the back saying, "and fine use of magic from you too." Then from the distance, he will see if he can make out any large glphs or such on the obelisks
The party spots no further movement within the rubble. Uragum studies the glyphs on the obelisks from a distance, recognizing them as arcane in nature and most likely the source of his fear. However, within a minute, that fear has faded away.
Arnald approaches Villonah, continuing to speak to her. "Villonah, you father is worried about you. He asked me to come find you. Can you stand up for me? You'd like to go see you dad wouldn't you? Come on, stand up and look at me."

As the moments pass so does his fear and anxiety. He spits at the ground and grumbles, "I hate to destroy magic but it's worse how this was used. I dont want it left here intact. Maybe we can disrupt the magic by moving it?" With that he will go over to one and try to lift it up.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
OOC: The roll to move an obelisk is a base STR check, so applying +3 instead of the +5 for Uragum's Athletics roll.
Arnald Persuasion (Advantage-Roleplaying): 24
Arnald WIS Save: 3
This time, at the sound of Arnald's voice, the gnome stops muttering for a moment. Her head snaps up, watery eyes darting around for the source of the voice. However, as the obelisks pulse again, she repeats herself, rolling into a ball on the ground. "Can't run away. Can't run away."
Arnald is caught in the pulse, and finds himself as filled with fear as Uragum had just a moment ago, unwilling and unable to approach any closer to the cage.
Uragum wraps his arms around an obelisk and attempts to lift. His arms bulge with the effort, and he manages to lift it an inch or so off of the ground before losing his grip, and it crashes back to the floor. They are heavy, and do not have the handholds to allow lifting them, but the goliath has discovered that they are not attached to the stone, and could possibly be pushed over.

Ola Survival: 20
The rocks become more difficult to traverse as Ola gets further and further from town, and the clouds blocking the sun make it even harder to locate a tunnel, but she presses on in hopes of catching up with her companions.
Sylyra sighs. He moves to where there is plenty of space, takes a few deep breaths, and his form shimmers. It grows in size as he becomes a draft horse. He clops over to the first obelisk, positions himself so it is in the crook of his neck, and he pushes with his shoulder.
OOC: DM, what kind of dog was in the other room? I'd like to add it as a shape Sylyra can take.
Seeing what the others are doing, Zelra heads to one of the other obelisks and takes out a crowbar. She wedges it between the obelisk and the floor and pushes, trying to tip it over.
Strength Check (not sure if crowbar mean advantage but I'll roll twice in case): 5 | 20
Having seen the horse transition, Uragum stops and pulls out a rope. He creates a simple loop to place around the stone and horse and recommends they both work together to knock them down.
Sylyra and Uragum work together to pull down an obelisk while Zelra uses the leverage her crowbar provides to do the same, exerting all of her energy to push the heavy structure over. Both of the obelisks topple to the ground. They practically explode, shattering upon impact, but their weight causes parts of the ceiling to collapse, tumbling heavy stones atop the trio.
Sylyra is knocked to the ground, his horse form battered to the side by the falling boulders, taking 7 bludgeoning damage. Uragum and Zelra are able to avoid the collision of the larger stones, taking only half the amount.
Two of the room's five obelisks lay shattered beneath the rubble.

Ola hears a sound like a faint thud, finally drawing her attention toward a crease in the rocky coast. The crease widens as her view of it becomes closer, until she stands before a long, dark tunnel with a faint light glowing from hundreds of feet ahead.
"Ooft! Okay! Maybe we shouldn't do that! Let's not do that!"Zelra dusts herself off before turning to Arnald and Villonah. She speaks softly. "She still not responding? Maybe we can carry her out?"
Noticing that her weapons are barely managing to break through the creature's natural armor, she curses again. "This day is going great! Absolutely fantastic!" Nonetheless, she continues to try and chip away at it.
