Reng sees the flood of people rushing to Shae's side. The flying woman, radiant in the dark, pulled off a neat trick, and like moths to a flame, the boys rushed to her. She could understand why. And why Mulligan asked others to stay onboard. She narrows her eyes at the songman, but nods. "I will stay on board and keep watch. I don't trust that dam. Feel free to send some of the kenku to the ship."She pauses, looking to the captain, and bowing her head. "That is, if the captain allows."
Fang pauses in his attempt to join the others on the shore when Mulligan mentions leaving a few people on the ship. He’s always been better at shooting things with his bow than trying to fight things up close. Besides with Berrus and glasses next to her she’s pretty safe.
Fang decides to move nearer to the dam. Somewhere he can observe both the dam and Shae would be preferred.
"I'm staying here, if they're sending visitors over," Mulligan says. "We may need someone who can whistle up a tune to talk to them..."
Doesn't mean Mulligan liked it, but he thought it best. He trusted himself more than anyone else to talk them out of a situation, if one developed. Even with the weird mimic speech which seems to be the bird people's forte. Mulligan would quickly go to the captain and explain his thinking of leaving at least enough to run the ship aboard... But also enough to fight in both groups if need be.
Shae’s face would grow with warmth as each member of the crew would make their appearance and the Professor’s pun would not be missed, garnering the smallest of chuckles from her lips. “I don’t believe they want to get rid of the dam.” She’d admit. “I believe they have something really interesting to show us.” It was safe to assume she’d remain with the Kenku because she started the conversation. “Perhaps your linguistic skills may be best going forward?” She’d add a bit sheepishly to the Professor.
When Mulligan would pause before disembarking and suggest that some stay aboard, she’d visibly relax. They did have a lot of important supplies, but Hope itself was the most important and very special to her. She didn’t want anything to happen due to her negotiations, again… Bringing her hands together at her chest, Shae’s facial expression would soften even further, and with a light tilt of her head she’d mouth the words ‘thank you’ to Reng when she’d be the one to speak up first to stay behind.
Shae would hold a hand out for Mushu, “Would you like to be Feng’s eyes with me?” She’d present a treat.
“You seem to be doing very well, Shae, but I think it may be helpful to given them some multi-purpose phrases so they can more easily communicate with us…If I may,” he asks.
”Yes, that is correct”
”No, that is wrong”
”I don’t understand”
”I do understand”
”I agree with you”
”I disagree with you”
says the Professor in several distinct phrases. He then asks, “Do you understand my purpose in giving you these phrases?”

The elder cocks their head to the side, at first unsure at the phrases that the Professor is shooting towards the humanoid parrot, before something seems to click. At the end of the phrases, the kenku responds: "Yes, that is correct."

Mulligan, in consultation with the captain, stays about the ship with most of the crew and a couple others from the party. If these strange bird folk wish to meet everyone for whatever negotiations that are going on, then they can either send a delegation on board or we can rotate who is onboard at any single time but the ship and supplies can't be left unattended - to which I am sure the captain would agree.
Using his Linguistics training (feat), the Professor continues to feed the Kenku leader useful phrases, assisting Shae’s diplomatic efforts (Help action).

Fang stands on the boat still keeping a watchful eye on the surroundings. It seems they’ve parlayed with this group of bird folk, but the jungle is a dangerous place and there’s potentially of trouble lurking just out of sight. He has Mushu perch on the crows nest to keep a watch on the water keeping an eye out for crocodiles or other similarly hazardous creatures.
Shae would return a look to the Professor, then place a gentle hand on Berrus' shoulder when he'd start to grumble. "I ask for just a little more patience." She'd say softly. Her other hand would reach to fidget with the necklace that was no longer there, instead just comes to a rest against her chest. "Before they saw Fang and things got tense, the Elder and the other Kenku pointed to the dam saying 'Not good enough, I'm afraid.' and they proceeded to imitate rattling and slithering sounds. Then the Elder said 'My dear friends and crew.''Finest glass marbles in all the continent, are they worth your while?'" She'd take the time to explain what happened prior to them arriving, so that they would be on the same page for when the Kenku were ready with their response to the crews arrival and invitations. "Once the ship and crew were introduced and weapons lowered, the Elder continued in the same merchant voice, 'I got an offer like you've never seen before', with some of my own. 'He has sworn his life to protect mine'." After a pause she'd continue, "I believe they have something to show us and there may be a mutually beneficial approach to this situation."
”Excellent. My plan to destroy the dam would be much improved if we had some allies. Hopefully we can convince them that removing this obstacle from the river is the right course of action,” the Professor responds as he follows Shae into the jungle.

Although calm and confident that they could avoid conflict, Shae still wouldn’t lose sight of a worst case scenario, a potential of a turn of events. She‘d offer Berrus a sheepish smile. If monkeys could fool her, Kenku could too. She’d nod to the Professor. Allies would be ideal. Then she’d glance over towards to the others and check on hope.
Ensign O'Malley continues her watch on board the ship, trying to listen to the conversation. She turns to the captain. "How wide a berth you imagine we'd need to squeeze through to continue upriver?"
