By now, Zack had nothing left in his stomach to regurgitate. The nasty taste, and the out of breath sensationa it caused were annoying, especially since he wasnt used to *being( out of breath anymore after all his training.
Seeing that atleast nadia and angar were putting in their work, he pulled together all his frustration and anger into the next blow, even as his head swam.
Zack finds that even though he is starting to recover he is still feeling a bit sluggish as a result his attack simply misses the soldier. However Nadia is there to save the say, and despite her first arrow missing its mark the second one strikes the Zombie in the chest. The undead soldier falls to the ground unmoving. As the last enemy falls the party has a chance to regroup again.
Despite the fight being relatively easy, Nadia keeps her string taut just in case more decided to spring up out of no where and attack them. The ranger gives the two boys worried looks before asking, "Are you two doing okay...?"
Nadaar finishes vomiting up all of breakfast on a nearby corpse. Parts of which began to immediately sizzle and melt, though nowhere to the same degree as a proper breathe attack. "I'll... ugh... I'll be fine." Nadaar states with perhaps an undue amount of confidence. Then again, there was a heavy layer of cinnamon in the air due in parts to the sick on the ground.
He takes a few healthy swigs of his waterskin as he backed away from the nearest corpse to recovery in marginally fresher air. "Gah... blach.... I truly have been living too easily. Hmph. A Dragonborn's constitution should be far better than that... I'll have to remedy that." He half mutters aloud while examining the place. "Not to disrespect the dead further, but we may wish to search the coffins for any clues -- hidden latches, perhaps to unlock a door fo some kind?" He suggested to the others.
And with the go ahead given the Dragonborn starts with whichever one is furthest from the zombies before moving on statue overlooking the rest. Of the injuries sustained, the Dragonborn brushed them off with the usual lack of concern.
Zack spends the next few moments catching his breath, as puking violently, tends to leave one without it. Spitting out the rest of the vegetable soup. Still aware enough to have counted four thuds, telling him they had all gone down, and ironically enough, no thanks to Nadaar or himself. Uuagh... Yeah.. yeah... I'm good. Something in that stench was rancid enough ... that it even effected the iron gullet over there, so no surprise i'd go down with my lunch. Ooof... That shit tastes almost as bad as they smell... it taking him several more moments to fully recover before he could both breathe, and not taste gut paste.
Zack looked to Nadaar though when he made the suggestion and gave him an incredulous expression at the mention of just popping the tombs open. Woah woah woah... I may be jumping the gun but I think we should try at-least a few other things first... Before we go straight to 'lets open their tombs... Like Maybe searching the statue in the middle... or someone reading off all their names aloud like an 'Open Sesame Street" or checking along the outer wall for a loose brick, rather than jumping to 'lets pop the casket...'
"Mm... Maybe we just look into the ones that are already opened?" Nadia suggests, her eyes going to one of the four opened tombs as she lowered her bow. "Keep the ones that were lucky enough to not be disturbed as they are..." Her lips tug into a slight frown, her voice lowering. "I hope we'll be able to put an end to this soon enough. Who knows how many other tombs this... this... bastard has desecrated... all the graves..."
The ranger simply sighs, then shakes her head. "I'll help you out, Nadaar. Zack, maybe you and Angar can check around the room like you suggested... And try to be civil, yeah? Or just take different sides of the room. Watch out for throw-up."
Nadaar's response -- beyond a small frown and raised brow ridge -- had been a gesture in Nadia's direction following her compromise. While he could've been clearler or offered a like compromise himself, it would've been a lie to say that failure to find what he wished would not end in the same results; especially when so many dead have already been defiled. If anything, the fact that any were closed at all leant further credence to the thought process...
But he soon is turning away, shaking off the trail, if albeit at the cost of another misunderstanding in the motion. If after exhausting the search nothing comes of searching the opened ones, he just looks expactantly to Angar and Zack, if they followed through with investigating the walls and statue. And if not, he does so himself before either mutely finding success, or having to surrender with a sigh. "This has to be a way... Lady Nadia. Are you certain one of those names carried a second meaning? Perhaps another clue not considered?"
Zack and Angar check along the walls the the base of the statue but to no avail. No levers, no secret passages they can see, and the loose stones are simply the construction failing after thousands of years of standing.
Nadaar and Nadia check the already open tombs but find nothing, not even the bones that should be there, though that's likely not a surprise.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Nadia gives a defeated sigh when the group as a whole came up with nothing. There had to be something that they were missing, and she hoped it wasn't the most obvious thing in the world or she'd feel like a complete idiot for not picking up on it sooner. At Nadaar's suggestion, her gaze goes from him to the slab with the names on them. "I... I suppose I could try, but..." She trails off as her expression goes solemn, and instead on continuing on, she heads towards the slab and tries to make sense of the names, even getting a closer look to see if maybe this was the key they were looking for...
Investigation: 24 History (at dis): 5 If bardic is given: 1
Nadia, the names themselves mean nothing to you. In your time in the orphanage it seems you had little access to books about millennia old elven history. The slab itself is made out of one solid piece of stone. It's quite worn though not as worn out as you'd expect for its age. Unfortunately while the stone is nice, it offers no clues on how to proceed further.
When everyone fails Angar walks over to the large statue and sits down at its base. From his pouch he pulls out an incense holder and an expensive looking stick of incense. He then pulls out four pieces of ivory which he places around himself in each of the cardinal directions. Lighting the incense Angar spends the next 10 minuets reciting a complex incantation which Nadaar recognizes as being part of a powerful ritual. Once the ritual is complete, Angars eyes go milky white and he is silent for several moments. Several minutes pass without any word from the death whisperer until he suddenly jerks awake as the Incense burns out. Angar collects his things and stands up before opening the closed tomb closest to him. Inside there is no corpse, much like the others, but Angar starts to feel around the bottom of the stone slab. He finally feels a small section of stone that is out of place and presses down on it. From the Northwest corner of the room a hidden stone doorway comes loose albeit loudly. The door doesn't open on its own, but it cracked open and easily visible. I believe this is the path we seek. He says in a somber voice.
Zack is frustrated at the lack of progress, being meticulous with every stone in case some stupid corner, was all the switch was. But perhaps he'd read too many fantasy stories or mysteries when he was a kid, as they were making absolutely no progress. And the dread of needing to open one of the tombs was beginning to settle on him as nothing else was having any progress. The names did nothing, the walls hid nothing he could discover, the statue itself was sound and lacking in maneuverable parts. By now he'd come to begrudgingly accept Angar. Sort of in an inverse way that he had to Nadaar, starting at the opposite end, but still meeting in the middle.
Angar begins his ritual, and Zack just says Well, I'd rather that than just straight up desecration. Zack takes that time to continue looking around as best he can, so as not to be idle, and avoiding vomit and corpses, though whenever he got near one of the zombinos his eyes would inevitably be drawn to the uniform. SOmehting in the back of his head told him this might be relevant, not just to his forgotten past, but as to what was going on here.
Eventually Angars ritual ceased, and the man began routing through the tomb Of course. To keep people like me, who respect the dead of others.... from being willing to check. *sigh* Fair enough. Let's keep the pace going. Thanks Angar. his voice indicates he means it, but isn't one hundred percent happy that he does.
And with that, he'd recast light on his sword, taking the lead once more and making a 'defensive' stance (Dodge variant block)
Nadia had released a dejected sigh and a shake of her head to signify that she simply wouldn't make sense of the names no matter how hard she tried. She hoped to make up for it by searching the slab thoroughly, maybe the names weren't of importance, but the piece of stone itself was, but, of course, it was to no avail. At the start of Angar beginning his ritual, the ranger merely stood off to the side and watched, only to then move about the room again to keep her busy until his ritual was over.
In the end of it all, she had a sickening feeling that they would need to open up one of the closed tombs, and it would only be confirmed when the death whisperer does just that to open a hidden door in the corner of the room. As the others funnel through the door, Nadia opts to go in last, taking just a second to clasp her hands together before the tombs and give a small prayer. Praying wasn't something she did often, but she felt as if it was the least she could do for the disturbed dead. Near the end of her quick prayer, she whispers out, "Lo siento. Arreglaremos esto."
With a final nod of her head, her hands go back to pull out her bow and an arrow once more, and follows behind the others.
Angar nods appreciatively at Zack saying Of course, though I hope that will not be neccessary again. Reliving past events takes a toll on the mind, I'm not sure I have the energy to do that more than one more time. Let us move forward and put an end to this evil.Angar follows through the secret passage way, followed by Nadaar and then Nadia. The passageway is tight and made of rough stone. While it's not narrow enough that you have to squeeze through, you are forced to walk in a single file line and Zacks blade occasionally clangs against the rock. Luckily the passageway is short and leads to a small room where you can kind of stretch your legs.
Inside the room is a large black stone sepulcher. A cursory glance at the monument reveals faded words carved into the stone which Nadia translates as
Here lies Lady Olivia Autumnfire. Humble and Pious, she set the example for furture generations and set the foundations of the house. (The years are illegible)
There are stone doors leading North and West from this room.
Zack says and does the same things as Nadia, though h e doesn't know what she's saying exactly. before proceeding inside.
Once inside the room, after having winced several times due to his weapon meeting the wall, likely his depth perception being worse with the shadows cast, he assumed. And once inside, he'd say loud enough to be heard within the room alone Sorry Lady Autumn. We ain't her to disturb you, but we ARE here to disturb the guy who is already messing with your graves.
And after taking a cursory walk around the area, seeing the two doors, he says then So my guts telling me the left door is likely just a branch off area, or perhaps a storage room for like embalming or whatever they do. So my guess is north. using that 20 investigation from the prior version of this post, he looks at the ground to see if he can find any signs of disturbance that weren't caused by the party.
Nadaar looks as if he might say something after several long moments of silence, but stops short, and looks askance. After his last suggestion, and in searching his feelings over the past several minutes, one counter point refused to leave the forefront of his mind. Nevermind the fact that his recent failings were beginning to override any actual accomplishments out of the Dragonborn...
"North, then. Worst case scenario is that we will just have double back." Nadaar says instead with a tight but polite smile.

Nadia and Angar both nod in agreement and the party starts to head north with Zack taking the lead. The door leads to another small and rough hewn passageway that leads to another door and another, similar looking room with a stone sepulcher. The most obvious difference between this room and the last is the presence of a corpse resting atop the stone monument that acts as a burial marker.
The corpse is that of a younger male, maybe only a few years older than Zack. He is dressed in clothes that would indicate he was a villager of meager means, likely a farm hand or other laborer. His skin is pale white and dry and his bowls have been cut open. Angar approches the corpse and inspects the open wound to the males abdomin.
Clean, deliberate cut. Some organs cut open with what would have to have been small instruments. Some organs missing all together. Looks like parts of his insides have been cut out, like someone harvesting samples. What do you make of this Yoric? What? That doesn't...oh...I was hoping you'd take this seriously. Yes thank you. I see. That's...not a pleasant thought. Someone has been experimenting. I suppose we already knew that to some extent. If I had to guess, this man was one of the victims of Dalansville. If someone wanted to check, the name and inscription on the monument reads as followed
