“I definitely want to do something, but what we do next depends on whether the Redbeards are a group of thugs or hardened fighters and spellcasters. We should find out exactly what we’re up against.” Kierro replies.
Faywin reiterates to the group, "I am worried about Gundren. I know this ruffians may be harassing towns' folk but we can't loose our focus. Hopefully Sildar will have some guidance."
“That’s a good point. Gundren comes first, then we deal with them. Speaking of which...” Kierro says, as he stands up and peeks out the tavern window to see if he can’t spot Sildar.
Kierro - you do not spot Sildar, but you do spot two large men wearing ratty red cloaks standing across the way. They have cornered a tall, lithe, older man, leaning into him as if threatening him. The older man raises his hands and backs away a few steps, then turns and quickly makes his way across the road, heading directly for the inn.
At that moment, Toblen returns with your food and drink. As he begins serving, the man walks in the door, looking around the common room. He spots Toblen and heads over to him immediately. He leans in and whispers something to Toblen. As he speaks, Toblen's face falls and you see a look of fear appear. He nods at the man and then turns back to the party. He smiles, but it is a shadow of his usual smile. "I'm terribly sorry," he says, "but there is some urgent business I must take care of. If you need anything else, just shout - someone will help you." He turns and hurries back towards the kitchen, almost running.
The man who spoke to Toblen pauses for a moment, looking you all over with a critical eye. After making eye contact with each of you, he nods his head in silent greeting and then walks over to sit at an empty table.
Torwen - you watch as the men stand for a minute, watching the inn, then turn to walk down the street. They turn the corner, heading east, and you lose sight of them.
Kierro - The man looks at you calmly and says, "You must be the new adventurers Barthen told me about." He then smiles and his silver eyes dance with amusement in his handsome face. "I'm sorry, how rude of me. I am Daran Edermath. And you are?" he raises an eyebrow in question.
Torwen will re-join his friends and continue his meal. He will ask Daran: "Would you like to join us in our meal. Maybe you can fill us in on the goings on here. I'll buy."
At Torwen's offer, Daran bows his head regally, and stands up gracefully, moving almost silently to take a seat at the table with you.
"Barthen told me there were some new adventurers in town. Thought you seemed capable. Selene knows, we could use some capable help around here. You noticed the men in the red cloaks outside? The 'Redbrands,' as they call themselves, showed up a few a moons ago and immediately started causing trouble. They hassle the locals, especially business owners. Nothing but trouble." He smiles easily, then continues, "I'm not sure how many of them there are, but they tend to end up over at the Sleeping Giant tavern, the lazy sots." He leans in, as if sharing a secret, and lowers his voice. "Their real hideout is below Tresandar Manor, of course. Glasstaff, their leader, is a wizard, but it's time someone took a stand against him." He leans back in his chair. "If you can manage both of those things, I might have a further job for you. Assuming you're not afraid of undead, that is." He smiles again.
Torwen asks Daran: "we heard rumors of these redbrands killing a man in broad daylight. Do you know if this is True? If so why have the authorities not dealt with them? Also, we are looking for our employer a Mr. Gundren Rockseeker....he has been taken captive by goblins. The information we have gotten he was taken to an old castle that is in a forest I believe is North of here. Do you know of an old castle that is north of here?
Kierro's eyes go wide when he hears Daran talk of the redbrands using undead. He recalls his training, his past, and the techniques he has just learned. "I believe we'll be able to manage that. Phandalin's residents should be able to live peacefully. Where would we find Tresandar Manor?"
At Torwen's words, Daran looks askance. "A murder?" he asks in astonishment. He shakes his head and then mutters, "I've got to get away from the orchard more often." He looks around the room, his gaze focused in the distance, not on anything in particular. After a few moments, he seems to return to himself. "If it is true, then it is certainly time that someone took care of these ruffians once and for all. As for your employer, I'm afraid I don't know of a castle to the north, though it is certainly possible. If there is, it must be an old one - the Neverwinter Wood can be a forbidding and dangerous place." He looks at Kierro. "The manor is east of Phandalin and is where the wizard and the Redbrands have been hiding. It used to be a fine manor house, but it has been left to decay since ancient times. I'm sure such a capable party can handle whatever this wizard and his minions throw at you." He looks at each of you again, appraising. "And, if you survive them, you can surely survive the undead at the well."
Just then, the door to the inn opens and in strides Sildar. He looks around, spots the party and Daran, and smiles, walking towards your table. "Daran! Good to see you in town!" He suddenly frowns. "I hope nothing troubling brings you here."
Daran shakes his head. "Nothing other than the Redbrands we've already discussed. I was just telling this lot that I could use their help with a job - after they deal with the Redbrands, of course."
Sildar replies, smiling, "Then I expect they may be very busy, as I have some tasks for them myself. Indeed, there are other townfolk who could use assistance as well, once, as you say, the Redbrands have been dealt with." He turns to the party. "After your news, I did some digging, and discovered that the rumor you heard is unfortunately true. Thel was indeed murdered and his wife and children are missing." At his words, Daran raises an eyebrow.
Looking at Sildar, he says forcefully, "Then I think we can all agree that the Redbrands should take precedence over other matters. This cannot be allowed to continue, despite what Harbin says."
Sildar looks at the party again, nodding. "I'm afraid Daran is right. Dealing with the Redbrands is the first priority. I have other avenues to assist with locating Gundren; I can follow up with those while you deal with the Redbrands. Assuming that is something you are willing to do?" he asks.
Torwen looks at the party and says: "What do you think? Should we look into the Redbrands and let Sildar see if he can pin down where Gundren was taken.....we could wander in the woods for days in hopes of stumbling on to an old castle. We need to talk to Pip & Carp about the tunnel and we need to do some shopping for some supplies (or at least I do) before we start looking around."
Victor answers Torwen, "As I said earlier we should take care of this Redbrand menace first so as to leave the town a safe place to retire to when needed. Not to mention assuring the safety of the townsfolk can only lead to our benefit."
Toblen takes all your orders and says, "Be right back!" He turns and heads into the kitchen.
“I definitely want to do something, but what we do next depends on whether the Redbeards are a group of thugs or hardened fighters and spellcasters. We should find out exactly what we’re up against.” Kierro replies.
"Not sure why I am suggesting this but maybe we go to the Sleeping Giant and see what they are about?" Victor reluctantly suggests.
Faywin reiterates to the group, "I am worried about Gundren. I know this ruffians may be harassing towns' folk but we can't loose our focus. Hopefully Sildar will have some guidance."

"Hello, sir. If it wouldn't be rude of me, may I ask what happened? Is there anything I or my friends can do to help?" the cleric asks.
Torwen will see if he can tell where the men with the red cloaks head to after the man enters the inn

OOC: what time of day is it? around noon?
Victor answers Torwen, "As I said earlier we should take care of this Redbrand menace first so as to leave the town a safe place to retire to when needed. Not to mention assuring the safety of the townsfolk can only lead to our benefit."
((It is close to noon))
Does Torwen see Pip running about? If so he will call him over.
