The circle of runes seem to match their appearance from when you all arrived here the first time. Paren would recognize this now as a way to tell that the portal received someone recently. It wouldn't take long for Paren to recall that Jay came through the portal and most likely reset the runes from when the portal was last used by the unknown guest.
Tanni whispers back, "All I know he was saved from a falling belltower in Holden Heights by Shamara. I think you're right and we will put stop to their squabble before it escalates more." She then goes next to a wall and begins opening up her toolpack. "Only one thing, your Grace. How old is this section of the castle?"Tanni asks.
Tanni...
begins to question if Shamara was the one that saved Jonathan in the town square.
The Duke looks to Tanni and says, "This castle was built by my elven father hundreds of years ago when the seas started to produce an abundance of fish. I believe this section of the castle is some of the oldest stone work while the areas further from the water are more recent construction though still before my time.

"The circle seems to currently show someone came in, which I guess was you Jay. In order to active it I would step in the circle and say the location of where I wanted to go. I'm not going to do that though, one accidental teleport is enough for me." Paren continues to examine the circle. He's specifically looking for a way that he believes would render the circle inoperative, especially one that doesn't break the circle but simply turns it off temporarily.
[clarification, the runes show that the circle was used to accept someone. It doesn't show where that person came from. I believe a drawing was made of the way the runes looked after someone departed from this place, right?]
Tanni nods and walks around the room, inspecting the walls and the ceiling. "And how long have you known about this teleportation circle? Where we came from, there was a pillar or an obelisk over the circle, is there something similar above this room?"
The Duke shakes his head in response to Tanni and says, "We learned of the circle when you all arrived. I have very little reason to come down to the servant quarters and I believe they actually prefer it that I stay out of their quarters. Had I known of the circle, I would have already studied it to gain any advantages it offered. I doubt any of the servants noticed the runes either unless they were magically trained. And to be honest, servants that are gifted in that manner aren't the ones I have fetching me wine."
When Paren asks about Wardens and Sentinals, the Duke thinks for a moment. "There's no one with that title in the castle. I don't think anyone has been called that since I've acquired the title from my father at least. If the title was of importance, then it would have most likely been recorded and stored in the library."
Paren, recalling that Falaine had sketched the rune pattern after the circle was last used decides to try and compare the current runes to the drawing. Without the arcane talents of a trained wizard, it's hard to tell the differences and their meanings. With Paren's limited knowledge, he can tell that the runes in the drawing seem to suggest that the target was outbound and to somewhere cold. In contrast, the runes are currently showing that the circle is set to receive and he notices a sort of wave present in the pattern. It doesn't take Paren long to understand the wave identifies this location and was most likely used due to the proximity to the sea.
After some discussion, the group here is able to determine that the rune patterns see to show if the circle was last used as a destination or departure circle. It also seems to show the destination of that use through a sort of icon affiliated with the particular circle.
The Duke seems to have been thinking about something while Paren studies the drawing. He turns back to Tanni and says, "I'm not actually sure what is above this chamber. If there is some sort of obelisk above, I'd like to know that. I wasn't aware of any space between here and the living quarters above. There are plenty of unused areas in this castle as father wanted to build it as big as he could even if he didn't have use for it all."
Tanni begins to wonder...
how much this Duke actually knew of the castle's layout. Why had the Duke not known about all of this here. Was he really that absent from his servant's lives? What else did the Duke not know about? There could be entire wings of this castle that were unused and lost to time if the Duke was telling the truth.
((Can Paren feel any presence or sense of Lugh like he could back in the Grove?))
Paren reaches up with the butt of his yklwa and pokes at the ceiling, trying to see if it sounds hollow or solid. He's careful to stand to the side of the circle this time.

The center of the ceiling in the room seems solid stone from what Paren can tell. As he checks the surrounding stones, it doesn't feel as solid. Paren would feel a rather strong connection to Lugh here in this room compared to other areas in the castle though not as strong as it was in the grove.
Falaine enters with a "How goes it? I've found some interesting material in the library. Apparently Lugh and Merveil have the new gods their immortality, but Merveil watches over artifacts that can kill them. I think that archeological dig and the shards that have the essence of Merveil are all from shrines like the one on your Grove Paren. From what I understand Merveil has been mostly dormant since the family stained godhood, but this infighting in the family has them searching for these 'Godsbanes' either to protect themselves or to destroy the other members of the family... Oh, and I need to travel to Thornwood I found a text from there that mentions the family and there may be one of our kindred ((elf)) there that knows more."
"That would make sense why Aiden wanted his dagger back then. If the artifacts can kill a god the god would want to be the one holding it. My guess is those artifacts were what Gunthar took from the tomb along with the shards. If we could get ahold of those and return them to Mervielle's tomb or somewhere like that then we could put an end to this war." He keeps poking at the ceiling for a minute. "I think there may be an obelisk above us. The centre of the roof is solid but the outsides seem to be hollow. And as for Thornwood, I believe there would probably be a grove near it that we could transport too, I would just need to know it's identifying colour. Did any of the books happen to give you something like that?"

[So far, I believe Paren knows of the Blue (Thousand Steps), White (Frozen Grove), and Red (Holden Heights grove) circles. He's heard that there are more circles out there but is unsure of the colors and locations. The colors seem to match the environment that the circle is found in.]

Paren would know that Thornwood is known for its giant fields that grow crops for the region. They also have large fields of flowers that bring a wide range of colors to the town. It's hard to tell exactly what color would be used with such a wide variety in the area.
[Anyone else may roll a history check as well to try and think of things specific to the region]

Tanni looks thoughtfully at the ceiling. "So the gods are trying to get their hands on these Godsbanes... I wonder if they are the reason their fighting or if the artifacts are just another weapon for them. Whatever the case, all we have to do is collect the artifacts and either restore status quo or use them ourselves and force them to cease their fighting," Tanni's face darkens, "and make them pay for what they have done." She finally lowers her gaze to look at others in the room. "It might be best if we took a look at the upper floor, see if there truly is a similar pillar. It might hold some useful information or clues."
