"Do we think that's the best idea? If we can do it without destroying the obelisk it would be best. I already lost one Grove, I don't really intend to be part of destroying another if I can help it."

Tanni points at Jay with her thumb. "If he's right, this place is trying to keep something out but we don't know if its Mervielle, Lugh or something else. We need to do something to this place, though, so I say let Falaine try dispelling it."Tanni glances at the meditating changeling, "As soon as she's done whatever she's doing."
"It is all speculation until we act upon it." Jay adds flatly. "I care not particularly either way, so long as we complete whatever you want to do here. It isn't my concern whom it may awaken, gods or not."
"Lugh protect us." Paren brings up his shield and spins his yklwa down until it rests in the semi-circular notch on the top, before crouching down into a fighting stance as he prepares for whatever Falaine will do.

Falaine sits in a meditative position. Trying to drown out the din and listen for voices.
Perception: 19
[missed this, sorry!]
As Falaine focuses on the world around her, she can feel a strong pull to the obelisk. Like a whirlpool that draws into the stone monument, she can feel the energy in the room swirling inward toward it. She doesn't currently hear any voices and she recalls that the kobolds said they heard the voices at night. The more that she listens to the tones of the obelisk, the more she can feel a sense a connection to an energy beyond this plane. There is an energy here that doesn't feel natural compared to her times in the wild.
As Falaine casts her magic on the stone, the energy that seemed to hang in the air dissipates. The soft drone of the stone vanishes and the shimmers of light within it vanish. The room grows even darker with the absence of light and there is complete silence.
The group is left to wonder the reasoning for the spell cast on this room but feel fairly confident that it was the reason for the voices the kobolds heard at night. This causes some excitement as the group wonders what the reward will be for saving the sanity of the kobold compound.
Paren can sense that...
This once sacred site is now little more than a burial chamber and monument. The circle of runes in the room below will still function but this chamber has lost something that can never be replaced. The draw to the stone is completely absent now as though Lugh/Merveille's connection to this place has been severed. The vaults here all seem to be sealed with no signs of tampering. The large obelisk now sits in silence like any rock Paren may find in the forest.
Paren slings his spear and then walks over an just coldcocks the obelisk with all the strength he can muster. "I'm sure the duke will be happy now. The gods are gone from his castle." He says in a voice full of disgust.
((No point in rolling for damage. Paren's unarmed strike does 0))

When Paren punches the stone, it's like punching an iron anvil. The density of the stone is exceptional. As he comforts his hand, he begins to wonder how exactly Gunthar was able to break apart the obelisk to obtain the shards. It would have required quite the feat of strength. Recalling the power of the small fragment of stone the group once carried with them, he wondered at what power a fully intact obelisk would offer. That point seems rather moot now that the godly essence has been purged.
Tanni, would be able to better tell that the stone the obelisk is made from is clearly the same type of stone used in the armors she's seen. There was a strange shimmer in the stone that seemed otherworldly to her as though it didn't belong here. Was this type of stone what the Duke and his explorers were hunting for? Was this what the reward for helping with the expedition would consist of? She knew that the stone had been fused with various ores to create both armor and weapons. She could easily craft several sets of armor and weapons with the stone from this obelisk should she find the ore that combined with it properly.
Falaine looks around the room trying to make sense of the purpose for the chamber. She'd seem plenty of burial methods used during her travels. This setup reminded her for holy crypts that had been used to preserve religious leaders so that followers could come and offer their prayers. The isolation of this location though made it seem as though visitors weren't welcome here and there were no places for offerings. The stone slabs sealing each vault have gone undisturbed for what seems hundreds or even thousands of years. With the closing off of this area by the kobolds, there's been little opportunity for things to be damaged or tampered with. It's almost awe inspiring that something like this could be tucked away in a busy castle without anyone knowing about it. A shrine lost to the passage of time like the memory of the old gods now sits dormant. She feels a sense of rest though as the energy of life in the room seems to return.
Jay's focus seems to remain on the obelisk as he tries to understand its nature. A large stone monument hidden within these walls would have seemed odd if he hadn't seen what he's witnessed thus far. There was little here that he could find useful in his mission but the magic that had emanated from the stone intrigued him. It had a sense of life and death bound in a harmonic dance like two people pulling and fighting to separate but longing to be together. There was power in this magic that could prove useful if it could be controlled. These old gods had such great power that they could bestow on these stones. What else could they grant their powers to? He had a desire to learn more of these old gods and their ways. Could this be what he's being tasked with?
Tanni clutches her warhammer and looks around the crypt, waiting for tombs to burst open or the obelisk to split in two. When nothing seems to happen, she swings the warhammer on her shoulder. "Huh. I was sure the dead would attack us or something." She goes to the obelisk and places her hand on it, inspecting it thoughtfully. She then glances at Paren, "You don't mind if I chip a piece of this? I want to find out if this stone is now safe for processing and a sample piece would help me to figure out how to best utilize it in my craft."
When Tanni touches the stone, she can feel a cold shiver run up her spine and flow through her fingertips into the stone. The place where her hand had touched seems faintly a lighter color than the stone around it. She looks to the words engraved on the stone trying to understand them. They weren't dwarvish or gnomish. They were some sort of strange language that seemed rather foreign to her. Like a slow moving lava, the faint light from Tanni's hand print spreads across the stone until it seems to restore to its original glow.
From within the obelisk, a very faint and soft hum can be heard.
"It is not my favourite idea but I sense that the gods no longer reside here so it would seem this is just another stone. Go ahead, but on the condition that if you do make something out of this I would perhaps be interested in using some of what you make against our enemies. What just happened there!"
"Curious..." Jay says quietly, watching the magic leave the room. The room goes dark as Jay looks around, the room almost devoid of what it once was. He steps forward, watching Paren strike the obelisk. He quietly keeps to one side of him and lightly places a hand on the obelisk, "It is curious how such things are made and serve a purpose. It is something to keep in mind for later." He says, mostly to himself.
Falaine would notice that it is the same hum just much quieter as it very very slowly raises in intensity.
She would also notice that..
she was able to dispel the magic that had been affecting the stone, but it seems to be regaining its power somehow. Did Tanni do something to it when she touched it?
When Jay touches the stone, he watches as the splintering light from Tanni's hand print seems to almost wrap the stone in a soft light. The stone is so cold to the touch and it sends a chill through his fingers and down his spine. The light seems to fade for a moment from the obelisk before it pulses and resumes its expansion.
The group can feel the weight of magic starting to pool in the room similar to how it had been when they arrived but much fainter. It seemed like the magic was slowly being restored to the obelisk after Tanni touched it and imparted the godly essence that had lingered inside her.
Jay,
A strange feeling moves within you. You can feel a strong connection to something like you hadn't experienced in quite a long time. It almost feels like two forces combining together in an aggressive and hostile battle that leaves you feeling rather defenseless. It's over within second as the forces find a state of balance. Looking at the stone, there is a clear handprint devoid of light where you had touched it as though some of the energy was transferred from the stone to you. The mark slowly fades away as the light continues to expand on the obelisk.

In the darkness of the chamber, you can see Jay's eyes glowing ever so slightly brighter.
