"We found what, so far, we think it's a good community on the outskirts of Waterdeep. We offered to help and its leader gave us the task of securing this tower for it's strategic position. I hope we could vouch for you if you wanted to come back with us. Although we failed, we can argue we did our best. We are going back, are we not?" Fingolin searches the faces of his companions with worry.
After tending to Fingolin, Solomon sits down on the grass, sword and shield discarded either side of him, staring at the ground dejectedly. "What's the point?", he says gruffly. "Fouder and Falwyn have given their lives... for nothing. We failed them, and the damn dragon, and ourselves, and for what? A few shiny trinkets, and a gaping maw to...wherever. Then we go back, get sent somewhere else to complete another impossible task, then more of us don't come back. The tiefling was right all along, we're better serving ourselves."
OOC - Do we get the big reveal now for what loot we grabbed?
"Well we may as well find somewhere to camp for now. We are in need of rest and healing." Tennezaz says as he hides the fact that he is glad that at least one had agreed with him.
(Looked up the helmet for Brocc: "Brocc Also looks around to see if there is anything worth of value nearby. He bends down to reach for a helmet of some sort, but a falling rock topples him over as he takes 8 bludgeoning damage.”. - Sorry this wasn’t clear, you didn’t reach the DC to take the helmet. )
But I did find the wand which I don’t think I described (correct?). The one under the pillows on the bed before going into the basement. wand of magic missiles
The group takes time and set up camp a little bit further away. Continuing to collectively review their new gains and plan their next step. The night goes over without a problem. It’s cold and wet but, the group was able to find a shelter of a old guard outpost on the edge of the road. Out of the rain and fire lay now in a pile of smoking embers the group gets ready for the day.
Anything else you’d like to do before heading off? Where to?
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Fingolin comes out of his 4 hour trance to find everyone still sleeping. He moves to a window to keep an eye out for danger while he thinks about the previous day and cleans his clothing and equipment, piece by piece, with Prestidigitation. He puts the new ring on a finger on his right hand and folds the cloak neatly. Then reads from the tome on planar travel until everyone wakes up.
Brocc uses the stone he found in the tower and all of his gear and body is instantly clean and fresh. he touches it to Pounce as well, cleaning the construct in turn. "Anyone else want to use this?" He asks, indicating the stone. He would then spend some time examining and attuning to his other item.
"I will travel with you guys." Brocc tells the group. "Are you heading back to the one who gave you the mission, or are you doing something else?"
"I for one think that perhaps taking our lives into our own hand. It may be harder but I think if he use our skills we can survive well enough on our own." Tennezaz says as he set his new shoes on, testing them by walking up the wall.
"We tried that before. Survival for survival's sake is not living." He starts to pick the notes of a song he played to the leatherworkers. "I'm hurt by the loss of our friends, but I am relieved by the fact that I can remember Fouder as the one who smashed a flock of stirges with one spell, the one who confronted a Deva. Not the wrecked one who hid in a basement living on scraps. I don't want to lose the hope we found in Cembessa's community. The joy on those people's faces. I would even face the dragon's wrath for it."
The book goes further into how interplanar travel works through various spells: plane shift and gate and etherealness . Also goes to Talk about various dedicated sites that used to be used as portals to other planes. Portals some times can pop up on their own in certain areas when the veil between is thin. One such location is the very forest that surrounds the tower to the Feywild. It discusses how magic is used to make tiny connections to other planes in devices, such as the decanter of endless water is connected to the water plane. It has a lot of generally focused knowledge. Anything specific you’re looking for?
It’s a weird sensation Tennenaz feels as he braces his body for the change in gravity to strain on his legs and core muscles. But oddly enough the slippers take hold on the wall as he effortlessly begins walking on the walls and ceiling of this room.
"You act as if that is all we have to return to. Besides that was the life I lived both before and after the end. Survival is all I know and what has kept me alive." Tennezaz says as he walks up the wall a bit, deciding that the new item was going to be quite useful.
The party takes the trip back to the camp where the people living in the forest with Cembessa. She notes the concern of the group about the open portal, but still thanks them for not allowing Kolyyt to get hold of the power and not killing most of the other fighters.
Several other skirmishes happen between the two forces, but it is clear that Cembessa is now over powering the Deva. Her followers are growing and in turn so is her power. The old city of Waterdeep is turning into a rejuvenated forest, the juxtaposition of the old buildings covered in ivory and green trees is quite remarkable. She admits she hoped that you would assist with the final strike of eliminating Kolyyt, but understands the need to leave. She shows you her power and how it grows with the faithful that follow her. “There is a well of power out there, waiting to be tapped into. There are others out there that look to seize the power for themselves. A sea of darkness floods the mountains and lands to the North. Two other.... would be deities fight in the islands to the South. Tempests raging against one. To the Far East disease and pestilence is spreading... All those that search for the power are able to harness it, once they have others to follow. But just and true, others may follow you as well. If others inquire, I ask that you will send them to here, my oasis, my region of rejuvenation and nature. I wish thee well.” She then turns back to tend to her eggs.
You stand at the edge of camp, well rested and more confident in your skills since the weeks have passed. The next chapter is up to you.
You have been tossing and turning at night. Visions of your wife slain, demons howling out cause you to thrust yourself awake at night, only to find the room still empty. The unsettling feeling as though your family isn’t safe, your daughter was safe when you dropped her off but it’s been how long since you’ve checked in....? The omen of the darkness to the North runs shivers down your spine.
Tennenaz:
The grip on your daggers tighten when Cembessa mentions the sea of darkness to the North. Your unfinished business the hangs in the back of your head, the list of names waiting to be marked off the list. It sounds as a good as place to begin your search if so desired.
Fingolin:
Your search for answers about traveling through different planes has begun. Not too much more knowledge has been gained, but you do know that you will have to become more powerful to do anything of the sort. Only forests to the East match the density like the ones here, where more natural portals may be lingering to the Feywild.
Brocc:
You felt relatively safe in the tower, being able to study in peace and further your knowledge. Somehow feeling unfulfilled with the mere pieces of knowledge you received, you have a voice in the back of your head.... wanting more.
Over the few weeks that the crew had some down time, Fingolin sets out to find ways to track others to the Feywild. It proves rather difficult at first, but he ends up finding various wicker baskets placed around the forest. After a few trips through he finds these baskets will be filled with various treats and supplies. Strange sweet fruit, candies, foreign flowers. He finds that things he leaves in the baskets are taken the next day and replaced with the new items. Finally a small note is placed in the basket.
Brocc only leaves his room to go and purchase a component pouch and a few magical supplies. He returns to his room and would be working to cast find familiar
Tennezaz is stuck deciding one whether or not he has reason to go after those that are on the list the cult had chosen for assassination. The logical part of his mouth tells him to leave it but the blood of his balor ancestor tells him to do otherwise.
Solomon rarely speaks to anyone during his few weeks of free time, and when he does, it's short, sharp, and to the point, bordering on aggressive. He retreats within himself, still reeling from the loss of Fouder and Falwyn - his failure to close the last seal the cause. He barely eats or sleeps, and spends an inordinate amount of time repairing, cleaning and polishing his equipment, well after his sword and shield obtain an expert-level sheen to them. When he finally gives this up, he tries to make further sense of the spellbook 'donated' by the wizard they had killed in the basement of their previous hideout in Waterdeep, but thoughts of his daughter invade his mind and break his concentration. Doubts filled his mind as to whether she was truly safe. As he sat in relative comfort, and safety, he pondered the logistics of bringing her to the Feywild...
While making preparations to leave, he tries to trade various items to Cembessa's followers, to lighten his load for the travels ahead. Upon completing his preparations, he meets the others at the edge of camp. "Where to?", he asks gruffly.
Chest of Preserving, 2x Light Crossbow, Dread Helm, 100gp handful of small emeralds and rubies up for trade.

Taking the time to ponder and discuss the group’s direction. Everyone takes time to look at what was taken:
Brocc: cleansing stone , blast scepter
Solomon: dread helm, chest of preserving
Tennanaz: slippers of spider climbing
Fingolin: Ring of the Ram
Brocc also had that helmet from the second room.
