Expression never changing, Buppido reaches out and grabs the ledge one-handed, then swings his other arm around to hang by his fingertips. He looks over expectantly at the rest of the group.

"Ok, someone give me a hand already."  Buppito says with a sigh.  "And watch your step, the ledge is a bit slippery it seems."

Don reaches down and helps Buppito up. "You're on your beam ends, sailor."

Egret will sigh as he watches, “This is why we suggested the rope.”

"Oh that was nothing to worry about."  Buppito says with a chuckle.  "Let's get moving huh?" He then lets the others tie him in, not wishing to make a deal of it and knowing they are rightfully worried about him.  He gives them smiles of fatherly pride as they continue onward.  "You make me so proud sometimes." he says to the group as they start moving again.

You carefully make your way around the ledge, having to move incredibly slowly. There are a few near misses, but you're all able to make it around safely. However, it takes hours to do it, and even picking the pace up on the other side, you know you've lost time. Quicker than usual, because of the stress of crossing the chasm, one by one everyone starts slowing down, gasping for breath. 

Time for a rest, watch order and perception rolls per usual. 

Don looks to Manju, "Take the first watch with me? As I've said, not much time for shows at sea, but I've always been interested. What were your shows like? Where have you performed?"

Perception for the first watch, 22

Egret will (assuming dm is cool with it) use his Artisan's blessing to turn 1 gold piece into a bunch of caltrops and scatter them on the ledge behind us before creating water as usual and resting, offering to take last watch.

Tempest and the prince will take the last watch then.  She was too tired to argue someone else taking her normal watch.

Perception: 20

If Tempest is bumping Egret from the last, Gadvelt will take whichever Egret doesn't want (let's assume Egret 2nd, Gad 3rd since he's used to the worst watch) He'll get Sarith to join him if he can - there's something about being isolated from your kind. Gadvelt perception 14

Ront is antsy, and will join Egret on watch These weak ones, travel tires them too easy. Not trust to watch well - darkelfs probably learn from them traders by now huh perception 20

Egret will happily take 2nd watch with Ront, "Now then, Ront, why are you so pessimistic and rude? You are a very strong person, and I admire you for your strength. But while the others may not have your strengths, they each have their own. Would you prefer to be down here with no guides? And if we run into trouble, I'm sure you'll be happy for Tempest's magics. As for the traders, hopefully they managed to avoid the drow after our warning, but even if they met them, it didn't seem like they were friends, so I don't think they'd have given away our location, probably just lied about us being somewhere else. You know what good liars traders can be."

Ront squints trying to follow the verbiage. Excuse me if words not refined was pretty sarcastic, but then more honestly: You even paying attention, godboy? You get tortured by darkelfs? No, not there long enough, but let bugbear and Manju get it. You ever abandoned by your tribe? Your god still helps - you must be a golden child - Gruumsh doesn't care for me. So we not careful we end up back there or worse. And we are careful some of us still have nowhere. Let me be me.

On watch, Gadvelt will try to engage Sarith on practical matters - any sense he can get of the geography or politics down here. Using the telepathy: It helps if more of us know more. The derro is leading but I'm not sure he's all there. Not even sure what a derro is.

or what Sarith can do: I'm pretty straightforward. I hit things, and in the right state of mind I hit'em harder, but you seem more subtle.

Sarith glances at the derro, narrowing his red eyes. I don't expect you to trust me...you have no reason to. But the derro...especially that one. They are chaotic, pure evil. Don't trust that one...I don't know where he leads us but I suspect it's to ruin. The passageways in the underdark are always twisting, turning, ever-changing. It is no place for surface dwellers. The underdark... sometimes I think it lives. Even the safe path is fraught with danger at every turn. We have only begun... none of you understand yet. It will try to claim you. It does not welcome outsiders.

But yes... we are trained in using our superior agility and our poison to overwhelm the enemy before they can fight back. Look at the size of this group...it is an effective tactic. 

Egret will look at Ront thoughtfully for a moment, “Perhaps you should view this as your chance to prove yourself to Gruumsh. Show you are worthy of his favour by achieving victory and freedom despite being held back by those weaker. A true leader uses what he has, he doesn’t worry about what is missing. Prove to your god that you are strong leader, and I’m sure he will visit your dreams.”

Ront makes a waving hand sign, and whispers rather than thinks  Gruumsh happiest if I kill you all, understand? No matter if I die after, perhaps even best. Gruumsh in my dreams would not be good for any of us. I said leave it Ront walks away to a corner, muttering Effing humans and their effing optimism

OOC: Holy crap, sorry had an incredibly busy work week and weekend. Should be better this week.

As people start to wake in the morning Manju will softly play on his bongo while humming an old circus song until until everyone gets up. (Not to wake everyone up just to attempt to settle nerves.)
16 Performance

During Egret and Ront's watch, you hear some slight scraping sounds, like someone being stealthy. A drow head appears, though not one you recognize. He sees you looking at him, and takes off back down the passage, no longer trying to be stealthy.

(how far away, and is it the tunnel we came from, leading back to death star chasm? Related, are we passing &or making lots of turns and forks - could we tell where this elfyboots is going?)
