(Gedeon 11 )
Those familiar with these little evil lights, know how fast can they be, yet, probably because everyone already expects something bad happen at every given minute, reaction was faster than even the one who sent them, could predict. Acolytes were busy chanting, Lulu was hovering away from the altar (Pherria asked her to stay away because of the aura), and at the moment all the Duke had as protection was the group.

Adray will move to the wisp that is closest to Choir, Pherria or one of the Acolytes. He will position himself so that it is flanked if possible. He will then launch in to a series of strikes to take it down quickly.

Polly react right away with magic missile for the same target: 3 x3 =9 damage on the wisp.
I found an interesting bit of information in the PHB 196, stating that when a spell targets multiple creatures one shoul only roll 1 damage die for them all. Meaning I should roll 1d4+1 for all my arrows. Meaning I have a higher chance of dealing more damage :)
But how will that add with powersurge? Do I add that damage to only 1 arrow or will all arrows deal 1d4+4?
powers surge:
Starting at 6th level, you can store magical energy within yourself to later empower your damaging spells. In its stored form, this energy is called a power surge.
You can store a maximum number of power surges equal to your Intelligence modifier (minimum of one). Whenever you finish a long rest, your number of power surges resets to one. Whenever you successfully end a spell with dispel magic or counterspell, you gain one power surge, as you steal magic from the spell you foiled. If you end a short rest with no power surges, you gain one power surge.
Once per turn when you deal damage to a creature or object with a wizard spell, you can spend one power surge to deal extra force damage to that target. The extra damage equals half your wizard level.
(The gospel according to Zorg: I think your quote from PHB means that if a single effect is dealing damage to multiple targets, then you roll the damage once. It uses Fireball as an example, where the same fireball is hitting everyone at once. Magic Missile however has multiple darts, with each dart affecting an individual target. Therefore each dart should still be rolled separately. As far as powersurge, it seems to apply to a single damage-dealing effect, which to me means only one of the missiles. There are multiple missiles each dealing damage to individual targets (even if those are in fact the same creature), and the ability says 'once per turn', so it would only affect one missile.)

How does a red dragon blow out the candles on its birthday cake?
(Agreed - RAW here is "by target, hence - one surge per missile. Nice addition in case of AoE, though. Elaboration: the tweet mentioned, never really made it to the official Sage Advice Compendium. MM is not AoE, and even it was not a long lasting tradition, the desctibtion sais "a dart" - one, not plural, so each dart has it's own roll (with or without individual surge))
Ok, 10 minutes later :) The tweet indeed did not make it to the SAC. But (!) there is bardic ability - Cutting Words. And SAC specifically mentions that it can be applied to MM. Looks like Surge should too then.
However(!) if we are going this way - it will be one roll for all darts since now on (or separate rolls for darts and surge for one only). Your, call!
(Interesting. I was thinking of MM being like Scorching Ray which gets a separate damage roll for each ray, but apparently that's because they aren't simultaneous. Anyway, I support the 'one damage roll for all darts' rule - and the improvement that gives to Surge)

How does a red dragon blow out the candles on its birthday cake?
Adray missed but the attack attracted Wisp's attention - the one suffered tried to get back on Adray, when Polly's magic hit - the light ball blinked as if about to die up and then completely disappeared.
Lulu, not daring to approach, helplessly watched from her corner that light show, why Pherria and her acolytes continued the chant, seemingly ignoring the danger.
Fran and Brutus (though not sure Brutus can reach any of the lights - the one you can see is above the altar.
(OOC: lol omg. It just registered looking at my char sheet for Fran. panic! wil o wisps! Blue!)
Fran, never have seen these in her life, is as cool as a cucumber can be in hells. She'd take aim with her crossbow, firing off repeating shots at any closest Choir.
Attack 1: 20 Damage: 8 Attack 2: 22 Damage: 11
Fran would whistle, commanding Brutus to loyally stick to Choirs side. Should he be able to reach the little spark ball closest her, he'd snap at it.
Attack: 17 Damage: 6
(My intention is to keep Brutus within 5ft of Choir to impose disadvantage on any attacks against her, assuming there's room without him interfering with the ritual or other players. If not he would priorize his position as follows: Choir > Pherria > Adray > Ordrag > Polly. Through the fight he'd hold his action if there's nothing within range, unless he's damaged then I may choose to heal.)
Choir clings to the sword and concentrates with all of her birdie brain. Con save: 10

Fran's now magically enhanced weapon sent specks of light, that formed the body of the evil spirit, flying in every direction, but it managed to survive, angrily flying toward artificer:
W2 vs Fran: Attack: 10 Damage: 5
Meanwhile, Choir understood what danger meant Pherria, when she asked for the volunteer - the sword in her hands began to tremble, and some invisible force struck little kenku like a lightning charge - 9 force damage.
The little speck is difficult to hit, especially with a slow heavy hammer, but Ordrag does his best to swat at it, hoping to squash it between the side of the hammer and the flat of his sword blade...
Adray focused his attention on the last remaining ball of light. With all their help, he hoped to make short work of this. As he stuck out at them he called out, "Hang in their Choir, we got this."
If there is any wisps left, Polly will release another three missiles. magic missile2 x3
OOC: I'd be happy if we did it 1 roll system. That will give Polly a little more veritility against demons who are all immune to almost all of her attacks :P
(For some spells separate rolls specifically indicated, but I will check if anything is questionable)
The sward proved it's worth - Ordrag slashed he light-ball to the quick disappearing pieces. This is when the the second - previously vanished Wisp appeared right in front of Polly, ready to strike. However, before the little mage could react, Adray managed to reach the the evil sparkle - as immaterial as it was, the mystic energy of his strikes dissipated it out of existence.
It looked like the battle was over, but chant still continued.
Choir - 3 more Con save rolls, please.
P.S. Polly can save a slot spent for MM this round.

The melody of chant flowed smoothly though stakes were too high to allow yourself to fall asleep or to succumb to trance. Another verse - and another strike of invisible force ( 7 ), the painless experience of the next part of the chant felt almost like a cheating, but higher powers - whoever they were - rectified the feeling with yet another strike ( 12 ) However that was it, acolytes finished the prayer and Choir could lower the sword now (Choir is at quarter of her health).
The Duke began to breath quietly, the insane words stopped pouring out of his mouth, he slowly opened his eyes and tried to sit down. Gedeon who coldly observed the whole procedure not even trying to help (or interrupt) turned around and left.

Though, once he realized that flying elephant and huge armoured bird are no part of his hallucinations, some colours did return to his face. Pherria carefully freed the Duke from the helmet.
