If this is possible, I'd like to do an arcana check to figure out whatever I can about the staff and/or the "nothic" people keep mentioning. That roll would be 16. If it's not possible, I'll just wait until after this combat, assuming I'm still alive.))

This slender, hollow staff is made of glass yet is as strong as oak and weighs about 3 pounds. You don't know what purpose the staff carries, but you can tell by the runes on the sides that it has the ability to cast some Abjuration spells. Also on the side the word ' Illefarn ' is engraved on the side in Elvish. You also know that this staff has a little bit more to it, but you'll need to examine it closely during a rest to determine its full effects and potentially attune it to your person.
Callie runs forward, sword at the ready but not attacking yet. She slips past and around the nothic if there is room, disengaging if necessary, then she holds her action to attack once one of her friends approaches within five feet of the creature.
Grum is going to charge across the North bridge to get to the Nothic, aiming first to plunge the Mariner's Dagger into it's ugly eyeball, then hacking at a limb with his shortsword.
I am very sad. I made a battlemap using a website and it didnt save properly so it was lost :( Luckily this is the starter adventure and I found a free use map for the area.

The area to the north is the storage room with the secret door obscured by barrels and the area to the east is the hallway that had the break room on the left (south) and workshop on the right (north)
Callie starts off the fight by dashing across the bridge and around the pillar where the Nothic is.
Following behind is Grum with both blades drawn. His stab at the eye misses but the shortsword cuts a gash across it's torso, and it curses in a feral language.
Brandor follows behind, his staff and his foot cracking into the Nothic in a full frontal assault. After getting hit twice he dodges backwards, just avoiding your headbutt.
Squelch stays on the other end of the bridge, keeping the Nothic in sight and lets loose a bolt from his crossbow, the ammunition soaring across the chasm and lodging itself between the jagged edges of the spikes on it's arm. Again it cries out in a foreign language none of you understand. (I've positioned you as 'S' on the map but let me know if you wish to be elsewhere.)
The creature hisses and speaks in a hideous growl, cursing you all. It bares it's claws and strikes twice at Callie, attempting to escape as you have all ambushed it.

Garr runs across the south bridge and stops on the other side to prevent the Nothic from running that way. Taking care to position himself just right and aim he fires two crossbow bolts at the creature.

Also Garr-- The crevasse is 5-10ft wide at various jagged points but it looks about 20ft deep.
