In the world of Toril, behind the windswept Sea of Swords to the west and the mysterious lands of Kara-Tur to the east, lies the continent of Faerûn. A vast place of varied cultures and races, Faerûn is rich with history and wondrous tales of adventure and magic... for those willing to seek it out!
Open trade roads between cities and towns that are often filled with intrigue and competing factions are always under threat from roving bands of brigands and marauding humanoids. Dark forests, perilous swamps and forbidding mountain ranges are home to lurking bandits, savage orcs, troublesome goblins, mighty giants, fearsome dragons and other mysterious creatures that creep, slither, burrow, lumber and soar amongst the wild lands.
Ancient ruins that dot the landscape and deep caverns that wind endlessly beneath the surface hold the promise of untold, long-forgotten treasures for intrepid adventurers who are brave enough to try and claim them.
Contrast that with the simple lifeblood of common folk, most of whom want nothing other than to survive and thrive, and yet who are dependent on those brave travelers for everything from protection, to trade and their simple merchant economy, to news and gossip from distant lands and being entertained by the song and stories of heroic deeds and amazing places.
This is your world. The place you call home, and perhaps one day, the deeds of your own life will be heralded in song and story by the great bards of Faerûn.
However, your story is yet to be told... you must write it first...
Greetings!!
I started playing D&D back in 1981, and have run numerous games on sites like Myth Weavers over the years. Now, recently getting back into it and being excited about 5e, I'm looking for 4-6 players who are interested in a sandbox-type campaign that's focused on the wonderful descriptive RP style that PbP allows for and the notion that great characters and their actions make for a great story.
I'll use The Forgotten Realms as a basic setting for places, maps, pantheon and cultural, historical aspects, etc... but instead of coming up with a major plot/storyline right off the bat, I want to start with a small framework and expand the scope of the adventures as we go along. There will be plenty of classic D&D sword and sorcery adventure, (combat, mysteries, action, struggle, uncertainty, reward) but I want the focus of this campaign to be on your characters, however great or tragic, and your deeds as you progress and emerge as aspiring heroes of Faerûn.
How to Apply
Start at 1st level
Roll ability scores, using either dice roller tool, point buy or standard array
Alignments: Good and neutral preferred. I won't rule out evil, but I'll need to be convinced with a good backstory
Post here with your name race, class, background and a description & backstory; the more detailed, the better
Include your character link
We'll start in a town somewhere in The Savage Frontier, so if you're at all knowledgeable with the FR regions, you can include a reason/story why you might have traveled to this part of the world and what you seek. If not, no worries, just include why you might have left home and made the journey to this part of the world.
Posting Style & Frequency
I'll try to post at least once per day, sometimes more, sometimes less, depending on my schedule. Weekends vary. I'm looking for the same from you, and I'll encourage a wide mix of creative roleplaying and descriptive narrative, with dialog, inner thoughts and expressive, detailed accounts of what your character does and thinks, whether in battle or interacting with other characters and NPCs.
Again, your actions will largely determine the scope of our story, so we all get out what we all put into this. If you're already participating in a bunch of other games and would likely only have time for the occasional one or two sentence post, then maybe step aside and let someone else have a chance. However, if you have a great imagination and love to write, no matter if you're a total newbie or an experienced player, then I'd love to have you in the game!
I'll give this a few days to run, then choose a good mix of characters and notify you if you're chosen for this campaign.

Name: Neras Thorngage
Race: Stout Halfling
Class: Barbarian
Background: Criminal
Description: Neras resembles more of a dwarf then a Halfling with his muscular body build, lacking the more pugdy build most Halflings are thought to have. Despite his build he stands at the average height of a Halfling and is just over 3ft. He His orange hair is cut short along with a well trimmed goatee. He has a wildness in his hazel colored eyes that is contrasted by how he dresses. He prefers dark colored clothes of a fine quality when he can but otherwise dresses in well made clothes with seemingly no armor. (Kind of trying to go for like a well dressed bouncer.)
Backstory: Neras was raised in a Luskan Theives guild for as long as he could remember, not really knowing much of his parents other then the fact that he was stuck paying off a debt they owed to the guild. As a young boy he played the part of a pickpocket or created distractions for the older theives.
As he grew older, Neras showed that while if needed he could work as a theif that I actually worked better as the muscle of the group, working to fight off other criminals and if needed the guard for a short amount of time. News of this got to the leader of the guild, an older halfing and supposed good natured business man Oliver Parafin. He took in the orphan, even going as far claiming him as a long lost child of his dead brother.
The old halfing had his "nephew" trained to be both his own personal bodyguard and if needed a thug that would go around and collect money owed to the guild. While this did not earn Neras many friends among the other members around his age he did manage to build some connections through his "uncle", occasionally selling his services to other for a fair price. While it seemed this was working he made the mistake of accidentally taking a job that turned into a mess when he attacked a noblemen during a mugging. In the end the human noble fled but had seen Neras so he put out a contract on his life. With little else to do, Neras fled Luskan on a ship, unable to take anything but a pouch of gold and his weapon.
Growing up in my small village located on the grasslands just east of the Neverwinter Wood along the Neverwinter River, I always had a way with animals. They seemed to follow me everywhere and would even help me with the chores that I had to take care of for my parents. One day when I was out walking a black panther jumped into the path before me, I was sure I was dead, but then I fell over in shock as the panther transformed into a human in front of my eyes. I had never heard of such a thing. He introduced himself as Mareth and told me he sensed a connection with nature within me. Accompanying me back to my village I asked him so many questions about who and what he is, he finally told me that all my questions would be answered in due time. Talking with my family he asked them if I could accompany him on his travels assuring them that I would be safe. They reluctantly agreed only after I pleaded with them to let me go, thankfully they agreed. Many years have expired since that fateful day and my life now as a druid is very fulfilling. I am able to help those around me and Mareth is a great mentor and true friend now.

(Woof. That’s bad, but let’s try this out.)
Name: Mist
Class: Rogue
Race: Tabaxi
Background: Criminal/Spy
Description: A fairly short tabaxi, Mist has fur the color of ink, with gray stripes that swirl around his arms and legs. His eyes are bright green, and his left ear is ripped from a rough upbringing. Skinny but wiry, he doesn’t seem to stand out in any way, but his eyes are unnerving when you see them, leading to people not liking to talk to him. Mist wears simple leather armor, darkened to almost seem to blend into his fur. He wears simple dark clothing, a hooded jacket and pants, but no shoes to allow for his unique feet to grasp the ground more easily.
Backstory: Mist grew up in the forests of his homeland, but had to leave as his family was exiled and hunted for reasons that were never explained. His family landed in Faerûn with no money and only the clothes on their backs. Nobody wanted to hire his father, who was an imposing specimen standing at nearly seven feet tall, and a tabaxi, which weren’t very welcome at the time, and his mother couldn’t work as she became ill from some sickness that wasn’t native to their homeland. So Mist learned to blend into the city, using his naturally dark fur, clinging to shadows, waiting for the right time to grab a fruit here, a fish there, learning how to protect his spoils before he brought them home to his parents. He met people who didn’t care what he looked like, just that he could get what they wanted, and get back out. So Mist grew up learning to steal to survive, until his mother lost her fight to the illness, and his father went catatonic from the loss of the love of his life. Needing to take care of the only family he had left, Mist took a job he shouldn’t have, to steal a valuable possession of one of the crime lords of the city he was in. Her name was Madame Evelyn Hostine, but was known in the underworld as the Red Lady. He managed to steal the artifact with some help from a “friend”, and sold it to pay to have his father put into an home far away that would take care of him. Now he’s on the run from the crime boss, only stopping to take odd jobs and send money to keep his father protected and safe. Mist missed his father but would not risk the Red Lady finding him, so he keeps his distance until the day he can take her down and be free to be with his father again.
Description: Tall and broad, Tammy shows her Dales blood in both her figure and her face. She has long coppery red hair, honest green eyes, a cute button nose and a ready smile.
Backstory: Born and raised in the Temple of Lathander's Light in Daggerdale, Tammy spent most of her days tending to the needs of the people of her town and helping out in the temple vineyard, where the priests made their signature wine Lathander's Red. When the wine was ready she, in the company of more senior clerics, would embark on a trading journey to sell the wine in the great coastal city of Waterdeep. Those caravans would often have to fight off bandits and "bandits" - agents of the Zhentarim posing as simple outlaws.
Description: 5'7 Blonde Half-Elf with fair skin and heterochromia that reflects the wild arcane power within her (one blue eye and one purple eye). She tends to run about without any shoes and has a passion for making sketches in her notebook.
Backstory: Even as a child being raised by a wandering troupe of artists and performers, there was something special about Vesper. Something wild and uncontrollable that made itself apparent from the moment she was born, when everyone saw this half-elven baby with one blue eye and one violet eye. Growing up, Vesper was a spirited young woman, who had a flair for life. She loved to draw pictures of everything and everyone she saw and it seemed like the young woman had endless amounts of energy. But as she grew up, her magical powers also began to manifest. These powers also had side effects that occasionally bent reality. Sometimes they were beautiful alterations, like summoning a unicorn or butterflies. Sometimes they were harmful effects, like setting things on fire or accidentally poisoning someone. Sometimes they were completely harmless, like that one time she turned herself into a potted plant or made her skin go blue. Vesper realized that the effects that were brought on by her magical powers could hurt her loved ones and wanted to find a way to control these effects, so that she wouldn't have to worry about hurting her extended family. So at age 18, Vesper set off on a journey to try and discover the source of her powers so that she could learn to better harness her reality-warping powers in a way that wouldn't hurt her loved ones.

Lumen spent years fighting and raiding with his ferocious orc tribe, largely being savage with his brethren, raiding villages. Intelligence and creativity were not exactly valued. Lumen's half-human parentage caused him to something try to overcompensate with ferociousness, and yet his tribe still did not fully accept him. To add insult to injury for the half-orc's chances of being a happy member of the tribe, every so often, the call of the wind, or a shepherd's song, or the beauty of the way the snow glints of the mountaintops called to him, and music and art became a secret guilty pleasure. Sneaking books where no one was looking. Singing songs while alone. Painting elaborate, gorgeous landscapes using water from snowmelt on rock walls while on sentry duty. Of course he was discovered and his tribe banished him, and he took his weapons with him to go seek the rest of the world beyond the villages where he once raided. He found an oversized, beaten-up lute he began practicing on, and he would stop in towns across northern Faerun, until the sight of a large half-orc busking in the street became too much and they told him to go.

After a while Loraliann join a caravan in order to earn some coin and travel as far as he could from his past. Soon the caravan arrived to Twilight Tor. Everithing was so different , all the decoration and the jolly spirit in contrast to the grey and tense ambient of the barracks. Loraliann was absolutely absorbed by everything, but then his joy was interrupted when he realized that someone from the caravan had had too many beers. He soon took care of the situation and helped the now drunk man find comfort in the local inn. Upon leaving he noticed that a local had been especially interested in him, intrigued by the fact that someone had been able to see beyond his apperance, he decide to struck a conversation with her.
Quick temper maybe, stubborn you can bet on it, but Chrys was a diamond on the rough that just need a proper guide, and Loraliann was not that guide, but he knew where to find one. So after a quick chat with the caravan priest, the caravan got a new paladin, and Loraliann got a new ally.

Name: Chrysoberyl Vos'rorn (Chrys for short, pronounced "Chris")
Race: Mountain Dwarf
Class: Paladin
Description:
Tall for a dwarf, and a little on the skinny side. That’s your first impression of Chrysoberyl. Her pale skin looks almost translucent against the contrast of her long, dark brown hair. Wide brown eyes, a stub nose and an unusually delicate chin for a dwarf would complete her almost childish appearance, if not for the telltale sign of crow’s feet around her eyes. It’s a jarring contrast to see those delicate features hovering over the heavy armor she wears, though. Her clothing looks worn but well-cared for, and her face is almost always drawn in a decidedly unladylike grimace. A doll-like face she might have, but her posture and the glint in her eyes definitely spell trouble.
Background:
Hailing from the small village of Twilight Tor, Chrysoberyl was a simple commoner from a happy family of smiths. Her childhood was idyllic - a stern father who was skilled at the forge, and an over-indulgent mother who was equally skilled at baking. She also had one annoying little brother who irked her mostly by being better at the family trades – both of them! – than she was, and smug about it. As a child she had a favorite pet milk goat whom she affectionately named Lupin, and would often take to countryside with him to explore the hills and take in the beauty of the mountain landscape she lived in.
Like most of the villagers, she and her family were faithful worshippers of the Watchful Eye. Chrys especially loved the annual Simril festivals, where she’d have an excuse to study the evening sky to her heart’s content without being mocked by her friends for being a dreamer. She always wondered what lay beyond the confines of her small village; the stars packed so tightly in the skies surely had to have witnessed tales more interesting than anything told in her sleepy town!
As Chrys reached maturity, it became clear to her family that she was hopeless at smithing, yet very skilled at hitting things – and moreover inclined to do so whenever she saw what she considered an injustice happening before her. Despite her constant scuffles, her mother was determined to turn her pretty little girl into a proper lady. She tried to convince Chrys to marry: “You just don’t have the look of a soldier! Why waste the Duin’s blessings by scarring that lovely face of yours?” The tension finally broke when Chrys, under the guise of courting one of the captains of the guard, instead trained in the use of martial weaponry under his tutelage and subsequently joined the Village Watch. The deception angered her parents enough to throw her out of the house, although it wasn’t a very effective punishment considering that she’d already secured her new place and income with the local barracks.
There Chrysoberyl finally managed to learn to fight for – and more importantly defend – the things that were important to her. She rose steadily through the ranks, making a name for herself as a dependable guard, and even managing to smooth over the break with her parents somewhat – helped along by her brother, of course, who was now slated to take over the family business. Still, Chrysoberyl couldn’t help but miss the days of her childhood, when she and Lupin would be free to take to the hills and discover something new every day. The daily grind of life in the small village was beginning to grow a little boring; nothing truly exciting ever really happened in her village. Still, it was a good life, and she was content – wasn’t she?
At least, that’s what she thought until the Simril festival of her 61st year. The villagers welcomed a company of weary travelers in their midst, offering them rest and respite from their adventures as they traveled towards Waterdeep. And among them was the strangest being Chrys had ever seen in her life - a silver-scaled dragonborn! Unlike his companions, Loraliann, or "Silver" as the others dubbed him, was reticent and withdrawn. He seemed extremely uncomfortable surrounded by the lively trappings of the festival, and his fiercesome appearance made many of the villagers afford him a wide berth for most of the evening. Still, as the festival continued, and the ale flew freely, another warrior from the visiting company dipped too deeply into his cups and became rowdy and obnoxious. Chrys noted with awe how the dragonborn overcame his reservation and moved swiftly to diffuse the tense situation before violence could erupt.
Chrys was intrigued; as a member of the Watch, she had been fully prepared and perhaps even anticipating the scuffle that would have surely resulted had she stepped in to take care of the problem. Yet Silver, despite his intimidating appearance, had chosen not to fight. A warrior who stepped away from the chance for battle? Intrigued, she sought him out and questioned him, and learned of his foreign concepts of honor and fealty - and to family, at that! Considering her strained relationship with her own parents, Chrys couldn't imagine pledging herself to her family's honor... but Silver's quiet and strictly structured approach to conflict appealed to her.
On noting Chrys' interest in the concepts of honor and chivalry, Silver decided to introduce her to the cleric of his company. There Chrys learned that she could turn her faith into the very discipline that she had admired in Silver's actions. Inspired by that knowledge, Chrys made a split-second decision to join the adventurers on their journey to Waterdeep, and learn the ways of a paladin. She knew it would be difficult, considering her quick temper and stubbornness, but she wanted to travel, and to learn more of the world than Twilight Tor had to offer.
Marthammor Duin would surely look upon her journey with his blessings; she was certain of it. He was, after all, the Finder-of-Trails, and it was high time that she begin the journey down her own path to adventure and discovery…
[OOC note: I am quite open to doing a collaborative background with another player, if one of you wants to be related somehow to this “party of adventurers” that made their way through Twilight Tor. Let me know!]
One lending itself right away due to simliarities in backstory is
Backstory: Born and raised in the Temple of Lathander's Light in Daggerdale, Tammy spent most of her days tending to the needs of the people of her town and helping out in the temple vineyard, where the priests made their signature wine Lathander's Red. When the wine was ready she, in the company of more senior clerics, would embark on a trading journey to sell the wine in the great coastal city of Waterdeep. Those caravans would often have to fight off bandits and "bandits" - agents of the Zhentarim posing as simple outlaws.
... we can easily make your character the "cleric" in Chrys's backstory and et voila :)
Another linkable character could be (Silver) Soldier background, very concerned with honor, and unusual features of being a dragonborn could all lend Chrysoberyl down the paladin path if she met him passing through Twilight Tor as well.

His egg was spared when his tribe was wiped out by a band of adventurers years ago. He was told that his egg had a metallic shine that set it apart from the other eggs that were destroyed that day. His egg was then sold to a merchant who had been deceived into believing it was a dragon egg. When Krackle hatched, the angry merchant threw the young kobold across the room, shattering many of his bones. At the time, a young girl named Hellen happened to be in the shop and scooped up the small broken kobold and took him home. The young girl and her parents were extremely poor... living above an old stable outside of Red Larch. They took the time to help him recover the best they could and he remained loyal to them ever since. Eventually as his powers began to show themselves... he put them to use helping in digging ditches and doing small jobs to help his new family. As the years went on and Hellen and her parents grew older... he started trying to think of ways to make more money to help support them. The small kobold decided eventually to give what little money he had to the family that cared for him and set off to become an adventurer... One day he had hoped to make enough coin to reply Hellen and his adoptive parents for all the kindness they had showed him over the years...

Sure mate! Also i see that we both worship Helm, your back is something that i can get behind. Be what i lack and i will be more than happy to work with you.
Actually, "Watchful Eye" refers to Marthammor Duin, local deity of the town (neutral good), but by extension this is Moradin (lawful good) - both dwarven gods. If that still suits you, we could say Silver was with this band of travelers passing through Twilight Tor on the way to Waterdeep.
Geography: Twilight Tor is in NW Faerun, near Neverwinter Woods. The Ice Mountains is in the region, a bit further east but it's conceivable that Silver fled west and met up with the adventurers somewhere along the return to Waterdeep (like at Silverymoon, The Evermoors, the Lurkwood, Cold Wood, etc...) when he met Chrys.
He could introduce her to the concept of honor, something she hadn't had before from her simple village upbringing, and thus influence her to go the path of a Paladin instead of just a Fighter. If you're ok with that, I will fold it into my background story, and you can do likewise if you desire. :)

I look forward to seeing your characters!

Backstory

Race: Half-Elf
Class: Wild Soul Sorcerer
Background: Folk Hero

One lending itself right away due to simliarities in backstory is
... we can easily make your character the "cleric" in Chrys's backstory and et voila :)
Another linkable character could be (Silver)Soldier background, very concerned with honor, and unusual features of being a dragonborn could all lend Chrysoberyl down the paladin path if she met him passing through Twilight Tor as well.Suggestions of course are always welcome too :-)

Name: Krackle https://ddb.ac/characters/19871961/grgwXe

Race: Kobold
Class: Sorcerer
Background: Urchin
Krackle gained his name from the sound of his bones breaking... not the sound of the flames he often conjures.
