With their little bat-like wings, the swarm of tiny flying beasts darts towards you, darting through the air with surprising speed and agility. They're much quicker than simple lazy, slow mosquitos, and a lot larger. As they approach, you can count six of these horrid little things.
The first one in the pack heads straight for Krackle, since he's the closest, although the others aren't far behind. It drives straight towards the little kobold, attempting to land on his upper arm and drive its needle-like projection into his body.
Attack: 19 Damage: 5
Finding a small break in his armor, the creature stabs into his skin and begins draining his blood. It's now firmly attached to his body.
Ok, Vesper and Krackle are up.
(Yes, Kess can have have her swords drawn before the round begins.)
(Forgot Kess in the initiative order -- and wouldn't it be Kess, Lumen, Chrys, if we're deciding tied initiatives via dex modifiers? This has been today's episode of Unnecessary Backseat DMing, brought to you by me)
(Yes, you're right. I fixed the initiative order. Thanks for the heads up.)
As Vesper speaks a few arcane words and makes intricate motions with her fingers, three bolts of magical energy fly forth from her hands and strike three of the stirges that are flying towards you. All three explode in mid air with bright flashes. By the time the bodies hit the ground, there's not much left of them, just bits of fur and a few thin, broken bones, with any blood they had absorbed from drinking at the fallen horse completely evaporated.
Only three remain: the one that's attached to Krackle and two more in the air.
Krackles eyes would go wide as the creature plunged its needle into his arm. Quickly, the kobold would scramble backwards towards his companions while letting out a terrible high-pitch scream. As he stumbles and struggles against the creature, he would pull out his new dirk and swing it wildly at the creature as he tries to run away from the approaching swarm.
In his harried state, and perhaps in a bit of shock at how much pain such a tiny creature can cause, Krackle's swats with a lack of precision. Unfortunately, he is unable to knock the little beast free of his arm. It remains stuck, with its proboscis embedded deeply into his flesh.
The next stirge goes after Lumen. Attack: 7 Damage: 5
Chrys' eyes widen as she sees the tiny creature attach itself to Krackle like some kind of overgrown parasite and begin sucking blood. By the time Vesper fires off her magic missiles, the belly of the one attached to Krackle is already distended to grotesque proportions. Despite his flailing, it seems like Krackle can't escape from it. She curses her short, stumpy legs as she tries to hurry forward to help him, knowing that with Krackle's frail body, the thing could easily drain him dry if someone doesn't kill it or at least peel it off of him first. Kess and Lumen, however, are much faster than she is, and she watches with a mix of both dismay and hope as they both manage to outpace her and reach the battle first.
The small frail figure of the kobold struggles to stay on his feet as the terrified creature panics... his bones protruding even more as his body shrivles like a prune as it turns into a raisin.
ooc: not going to lie, I was hoping one if those missiles was going to go after the bug biting me lol

With a bellow of anger, Chrys manages to put on a burst of speed and approach Krackle, swinging her hammer like a bat to dislodge the Stirge attached to him.
Attack: 10
bard inspo! 2
If her hammer manages to hit it, it will do 9 damage to the stirge.
(Chrys remember you have an inspiration die if you want to add to your attack!)
Lumen refuses to consider the idea of losing his kobold traveling companion, so he casts healing word on Krackle for 8 hp with his bonus action. He tries to do a few lines from an old ballad he once heard called "The Jackal" only replacing Jackal with Krackle, as a part of the healing spell.
For his action, he then blurts out some vicious mockery to the stirge that tried to take a bit out of him. "You're one ugly mosquito that is not very neato and donating you my blood is an idea that I veto." (Failure on a WIS 14 save means 2 psychic damage and disadvantage on its next attack roll.)

Vesper has spent much more time with her friend, so she knows just how quick Kessdarra can be. However, this is the first occasion the rest of you have witnessed the elf's impressive agility. With skilled swipes from her two blades, she slices two of the airborne stirges in half before they can land on anyone else. They land in the grass as four bloody lumps.
As Lumen speaks a quick arcane word of healing, Krackle immediately feels a rush of energy as the renewed life force wells up from within his body. The half orc then leashes a string of enchanted insults at the stirge that's still attached to the kobold.
Stirge WIS save: 13
The stirge's body suddenly twists in odd convulsions, its own life force magically pulled from its small body.
Just then, Chrys's hammer slams into the creature, dislodging it from Krackle's shoulder. The force of her swing sends it flying through through air in a wide arc before the mangled beast falls into the grass about thirty feet away.
"Krackle!" Chrys shouts, worried. "Kid, are ya hurt bad?" She takes Krackle by the shoulders and looks him over carefully, then sags and lets out her breath in a woosh as she sees that Lumen's spell seems to have healed his physical wounds, at the least. "Yer safe now, thank the Duin," she says quietly, giving Krackle a gentle hug.
The kobold's thinning figure would seem to inflate as Lumen's music healed the small creature. Krackle would continue to squeal as the hammer peels off the stirge, not really even noticing it had been removed until a few moments later. Once all the creatures had been killed and he noticed that the stirge was no longer embedded in his arm, He would quietly put his dirk away and look to his companions.. his eyes still wide. "Thank you! Thank you all! Did you see those things! They were giant... like... as big as my head!" He would shout while rubbing his scaly arm where the needle had punched its way through his skin. **Inserted after seeing post by Chyrs** When Chrys grabs him and gives him a hug, he would close his eyes and smile, returning the hug as hard as he could. "The song made me feel better! I thought it was going to suck out all of my insides!"
Krackle would then pick up and throw all the small winged creatures on top of the dead horse and once he was given the OK.. he would point his small wand-like staff towards the ground while casting mold earth to bury the dead creatures.
Lumen smiles after his healing spell helps his tiny new friend. "Glad I could partially return the favor, Krackle," he says, bending down to check on the fading wounds. Looking at the last stirge that perished from the mockery spell, he mutters,"some beings just can't take a joke."
Investigation: 5
Survival: 13
He walks over to the horse and looks for any signs of domestication, or identification, or any other tracks indicating that a rider or companion may have been on the same journey. He'll point out any such signs, and grab anything useful from the body of the horse, if applicable. Then he'll nod at Krackle for the burial.

If her hammer manages to hit it, it will do 9 damage to the stirge.
With a sudden, ruthless dive, Kess brings both blades to bare at any of the foul creatures.
"Get off of him, you monsters!"

Second scimitar attack (bonus attack): 20
If both attacks hit, they would do 9 and 9 in damage.

(thanks! used it for my arrack roll. ;) )
(also, dice rolls values above are correct, just probably should have put the inspo edit at the end)
