Her watch over, Chrys wakes Krackle to take over during the deepest hours of the night. She tells him all of what she saw, which was nothing exciting, but does warn him about the shadow that was probably nothing. Mostly because while she might think a tight flock of birds is "nothing", Krackle's frail little body might actually be at risk from what other adventurers would consider idle threats. "Take care," she tells him, before settling down to say her evening prayers and catch some sleep.
"Don't you worry about me. I'll be fine" He would whisper with a smile. He would then dust any of the dirt off of his robe that he may have accumulated as he crawled out of his tiny den and would scramble up to the top of the tiny dirt tower. Once there he would pull out his dirk and hold it in two hands with the blade resting on his small shoulder. He would then walk along the edge of the top of the dirt mound like he was on a small patrol.. keeping an eye out for threats.
Krackle takes over the watch and spends much of the time pacing back and forth along the top of the mound while keeping his eyes focused into the darkness. There is no moon tonight, so the sky is especially black, but the tradeoff is that you see millions of stars in the sky. It's like an endless ceiling of tiny white pinpoints.
If you look for awhile, you notice that certain groups of stars begin to take on shapes of their own if you stare at them long enough. There's literally an endless number of possible combinations that could be interpreted in any number of ways. In fact, Krackle has heard that some people hold the stars in reverence, and even gave names to some of the shapes in the sky. He would have at least some idea that many common observations are based on the stars, but sitting out here by himself in the middle of the night under a wide open sky, he can't help but be a bit overwhelmed by the sight.
For most of his shift, he doesn't spot any disturbances, but at one point, in the darkest hour of night, he hears a faint noise in the grass. Looking with his keen kobold eyes, he spots a couple of large moving shapes off in the distance. They're just beyond the range of his darkvision, but by the look of the shapes, they appear as if they might be horses, or something of similar size and shape. Something about them seems different, though, as if there is something with an irregular shape on top of them.
As of right now, they appear to be moving directly towards you, about 60-80 feet away.
"Uh oh...... uh-oh uh-oh uh-oh!" The kobold would whisper aloud before quickly scambling down off the tower. "wake up! Something is comming! Big shadows! Like horses... but not horses!" He would exclaim, getting louder and louder with every word as he tries not to panic. He would quickly move around the small campfire shaking each of his companions and pointing in the direction of the oncoming creature.
Vesper looks grumpy as Krackle wakes her up in the middle of the night. "What?" She also puts her hand over his mouth, indicating that he's being too loud.
"MMfffhmmmmfhffhfhhhffmmff!" Krackle would exclaim as his tiny snout is held shut as his eyes dart towards the direction he saw the figures. he would point with his dirk that direction while feebly trying to remove Vesper's hand.
Vesper peeks her head out from behind the mound, just enough so that she can see what Krackle is talking about. Her hand still stays where it is. "We have to be quiet if we don't want to give ourselves away. Kess taught me that."

Chrys blinks awake, seeing Vesper holding Krackle as both of them peer over the mound. Brow wrinkling, she reaches out and grabs her hammer, then quietly extracts herself from her bedroll and approaches the two. "What's keepin' you two up?" she whispers under her breath, peering over the mound.
"This late at night?"Chrys whispers. "Only people travelin' like that would be smugglers or criminals, is my guess." She moves to shake the others awake, just in case.
Krackle would work his snout free. "No! they were creatures that looked like a horse! But not a horse.. and they are coming this way!" He would whisper shout as he starts to cower a bit at the feet of his companions.
"Mmm...?" Kess grunted as she shook herself out of her bedroll and awoke... only to quickly fix her hair and draw her bow as she heard Krackle's commotion, scooting over in a hunched, hidden posture behind cover towards the little kobold.
"How many...?" She asked in a hushed whisper, nocking an arrow and staying low. "They could be bandits... or maybe orcs not aligned with Many-Arrows, for all we know."
Lumen awakes with his hand on the hilt of his sword and is immediately in a crouch - too many nights on the road with bad shelter have sharpened his instincts and lightened his sleep. He looks for any source of sound, moving closer to Krackle.
You're all awake now, and as you strain your eyes to look out to where Krackle is pointing, everyone is able to see what he's concerned about. It does appear that two horse-sized creatures are approaching, that have unusual shapes on top of them. It's as if they're bearing riders who are either carrying some kind of menacing weapon, or else the riders themselves have odd, monstrous shapes to them with multiple sharp extremities.
Being just beyond the limit of your night vision, it's extremely hard to discern exactly what this things are in the dark. They appear to have stopped now, and as you observe these two creatures, the things that look like riders make quick, but smooth downward movements, as if they're dismounting, or perhaps both creatures are crouching towards the ground. They don't appear to make any move to approach, though. At this point, they're still about 60-80 feet away.
"Can one o' you magic up some kinda loud noise or light behind 'em from this distance?"Chrys whispers. "See how they react to the unexpected, maybe show us a lil' o' what they really look like?" She readies her javelin -- they're not within an optimal range yet, but there's still a chance to hit them if whatever the things are prove hostile.
"I can make a flame in my hand... umm.. and then throw it in their direction..... but that might make them mad." He would say as he tapped his clawed finger to his lip.
"OH! OH! Tell them... Tell them that we are nice and friendly but also tired and all out of food..." Krackle would say with a smile. "Then tell them that we will talk to them in the morning." He would add as he looks around to his companions... "I bet you can tell if they are friendly in the morning!"

"Krackle said that he saw something on his watch." She whispers back. "He said it looked like it was riding a weird horse."
