Pox listens to her instructions, and after finally letting go of Krackle’s arm, she begins walking slowly up the stairs. Before she gets too far, she turns around and says,
”Pox look for gnome. Say Krackle lizard hello. You kill big boss and mean warrior goblins... and big badda woofs.”
She then turns and creeps up the stairs.
OOC: Did you let her keep her belongings? She had a small shoddy looking scimitar and a small dirty leather pouch at her waist.
OOC: oh poor Pox/Ellywick is going to run away very fast!
What do we see in the room we are in? Can we look for signs of activity, any items of note, and Lumen wants to see those statues more closely - but not touch them given what Pox said. Also how do we handle looking for traps?
The room you are in is about 40 feet across and 60 feet wide, with a 10 foot high ceiling. The walls and ceiling are made from large, smooth blocks of onyx that are engraved with swirling circular patterns. The floor is paved with black and purple tiles that show through the large amount of dust and rubbish that's strewn about in here.
At the far end of the room, opposite the stairs you just descended, is a 20 foot wide corridor that's leading out of the room. The two statues that flank the exit are nearly identical, about three feet all, and made of obsidian. They depict the figure of a fully cloaked humanized with the face hidden by a cowl. The statue on the right has its left arm outstretched, while the one on the left has both arms by its side.
As you look more closely, you can see that the base of the statue on the right is inscribed in common with the words: Love is a lie. The base of the the left statue is inscribed : Only loss endures.
OOC: If you want to take the time to search for traps and any possible hidden objects, then state as such and make a Perception check. Otherwise, I'll just use your Passive Perception as we go along. If you want to take the time to analyze the details of an object or actively inspect something, then you would make an Investigation check.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Lumen investigation of the tiles and stonework, and the statues (again, never actually touching the statues because he's skirred of them): 20 Lumen perception for hidden objects: 13 Lumen history check for the figures and the inscriptions to see if they remind him of any stories he's heard: 12
"This is not a natural cavern, obviously. This was built, maybe a long time ago. Anyone recognize the creepy statues? Or know what the inscriptions mean? Pox didn't say whether the goblins have always been here or if they came recently. I'm going to take a look for anything hidden in the corners here before we head down past the statues."He almost forgets to turn back and say to Krackle, "Do me a favor and don't touch the statues until we know they're not magically trapped or possessed somehow. Last thing we need..."
With Vesper lending aid, Chyrs uses her natural affinity for stonework to search and inspect the room. While she discovers no traps, the dwarf nonetheless finds herself impressed the construction of this place. The craftsmanship of the carving and placement of the large stone blocks in the walls and ceiling is quite impressive, and given the decorate nature of the blocks and the alternating colors of the tiles on the floor, she would guess that this was originally some sort of temple or religious edifice.
Lumen inspects the statues, but unfortunately, he's unable to decipher the significance of the inscriptions. Nor does he recognize the nature of the two figures, but given Chrys's analysis, it would make sense that these are some kind of religious symbols.
(Assuming Lumen doesn't find anything interesting hidden in corners or in dirt/dust/debris or on walls with that 15 perception roll?)
"Okay, then, I guess we should move in further. This is more than just a bunch of goblins trying to make their way as bandits. Has all the makings of a story where goblins fall under the spell of some malevolent power, maybe related to whoever built this place. We should be ready for anything. Stick close together and eyes open for traps or an ambush. They might know we're here, even though they're quiet."
He's ready to carefully move into the rest of the complex, through the opening between the two statues, assuming there are no other secret doors in the room.
As Lumen finishes his investigation of the two statues, he does detect a slight difference between the two. The outstretched arm of the figure on the right has a thin seam that goes all the way around at the shoulder.
"Hmm, that one reaching out looks a bit hinky. Does it seem to anyone else like it might be able to move or detach somehow? Before we go past it should we maybe throw something at it to see if it triggers?"the half-orc says, scratching his head...
OOC: The furthest you could back up and still have a line of sight to the statues is 40 feet to the other side of the room, and about 10 feet up the stairs.
Vesper's Fire Bolt flies forth from her finger, sails across the room and slams into the right hand statue. There's a brief flash, but since the stone is not flammable, the bright orange flame flickers briefly before fizzling out. Nothing else happens and you hear no sounds emanating from anywhere in the room.

"I'm ready." Chrys said, pulling out her hammer and shield now that the goblin was gone.

Chrys makes an Investigation check as well, also with Vesper lending her (half)elven eyes.
