"Oh. Right." Vesper said from behind the elf. "Well, that's why you're here, because you've traveled a lot and know how to keep us all safe. That and you're my friend."

Xenophon: Topaz Dragonborn Fighter (ixi's Dragon of Icespire Peak)
Another hour wears on, and with the dim skies and heavy rain, the visibility decreases even more. it’s not yet dark, but approaching the last hour before dusk. The wind remains at that level above a steady breeze and a biting gust, and it continues to drive the rain into any the folds of your cloaks and onto your faces. The combination makes life right now quite stoic, or miserable, depending on your outlook on life and hardship.
Kess
At that moment, Kessdarra spots movement out of the corner of her eye. Off to the left, about 50 feet away the road, she sees a small humanoid figure stand up out of the grass and pull the string back on a short bow that it has aimed right at your party. Even in the dim light, she can see the unmistakable pointed ears and bulbous nose that identify it as some sort of goblinoid.
Need initiative and actions for Kess. At this point, no one else sees it
Lumen has covered his lute in the rain to keep it protected, grumbling about what the water will do to the strings. It's been through worse -- a hardy piece of equipment that has in all honestly been used to brain music "fans" who got a bit too close to his coin-filled hat while busking. But really, he'll have to restring it if it gets soaked and then the weather turns cold like it does back home in the Spine of the World.
He's resorted to casting prestidigitation to play some faint musical notes to try to lift spirits up, humming a small counter-melody. He's barely looking to either side of the road, focusing on keeping his companion's morale up in the face of cold rain.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Before the rest of the party can even react, Kessdarra draws her longbow and fires an arrow at something in the tall grass about 50 feet away that the rest of the party doesn't even notice, displaying the keen senses that elves were famous or infamous for.
Chrys gently puts the bag down, whispering "They may not 'ave seen ya... use it to your advantage," to Krackle, before drawing out her warhammer and grinning into the dim-lit rainstorm, shouting "Bring it on!"

Her keen eyesight and quick elven reflexes allow Kessdarra to nock an arrow and fire a shot before everyone else even realizes what's going on. Despite the urgency of her action and the difficult visual conditions the dim light and heavy rain are causing, her aim is true. Her arrow strikes the goblin right in the middle of the chest, killing it instantly.
Before she can yell out to her companions, though, three more arrows come flying out of the grass, having been fired from somewhere in the vicinity of the creature that Kess just fired at.
The first two are targeted at Chrys, Attack: Attack: 13 Damage: 8, Attack: 23 Damage: 4 while the third arrow flies towards Kess. Attack: 16 Damage: 8
*(Note, these rolls are now off, since I've edited the post a couple of times. The first two attacks at Chrys were 24, with a total damage of 7, and 17, which misses her 18 armor class. The arrow that was fired at Kess had an original attack roll of 20, damage 4.)*
You now see it's not just one goblin hiding in the grass, it's four. They're all in a line, spaced roughly 10 feet apart, about 50 feet off the trail.
As soon as the three remaining goblins release their arrows, they each scurry a few feet and duck back down in the grass.
Goblin Rolls:
Initiative: 20, 17, 19, 9
Stealth Checks: 23, 23, 11
Initiative Order
Kess
Goblin 3 (currently hiding)
Goblin 1 (currently hiding)
Goblin 4 (currently visible)
Lumen
Chrys
Krackle
Vesper
Goblin 2 (currently hiding)
Ok, actions and rolls everyone. If you want to target any of the hidden goblins, you'll need to roll a perception check to see if you spot it in the grass, or, hold your action to fire the moment it appears. (Again, need damage from Kess first to see if goblin 2 is still alive.)
(Note: Edited goblin combat rolls to reflect that they have advantage as unseen attackers.)
"CHRYS!" Kess shouts out helplessly as her dwarven companion is struck mercilessly, watching as the other goblin's aim was dreadfully off and fell short of her a few feet. "GET HER DOWN! TAKE COVER AND FIRE BACK, EVERYONE!"
Assuming that the first goblin isn't dead, Kess would nock another arrow and fire again. Or, if not, train her aim onto another archer and fire back before working her way over to some tall grass for cover.
(Attack roll for longbow: 19 ) (Damage, if it hits: 5)
Kess's first shot does indeed take out the first goblins she shot at. So, make a perception check for this attack to see if she's able to spot any of the other goblins who are hiding in the grass.
( Chrys is out for the count with 2 criticals and 21 damage, oof! )
As she roars out her battle cry, one arrow strikes Chrys, penetrating through her armor. Her cry turns into a gurgle, but she remains standing somehow, looking incensed.
Chrys, you're not down. Since I edited my last post too many times, it changed the rolls. The original attacks should have been 24, damage 7, and 17, which just missed.
The first arrow sinks deeply into her left side, but the second one is deflected by the sturdy rings of her chainmail. Even with the severity of the first arrow, she's still standing.
Kracke would try to sneak towards the direction of the goblins... staying low in the wet grass. As he makes his way towards them on his hands and knees, he would pick up a rock from the loose wet soil and pull a small leather sling from inside his muddy robes. Sticking his head out of the grass, he would look for a goblin and hurl the stone towards it if he is able to spot it in the grass and rain..
stealth 18

sling Attack: 14 Damage: 4

"Not everything out here relies on sight, Ves," Kess would gently point out. "Bandits are not what I'm concerned about, per se."
She took a brief look at poor Krackle, who was trying his best to hide from the elements inside the saddle bag.
Poor little one..
