The figure turns to Merric. "I do not offer items, so you need to tell me what you seek. I will then tell you where to find it in this libarary, if it exists, and you meet the price." It then turns back to Kale. Reaching out it places a strange hand, somehow insect-like, onto his forehead. If he allows it the thing then pulls the memory from him. With a smile of approval the creature steps back. "I will lead you to the map you seek." It then says and leads the way through the library to a stack of random books and pulls a scroll from the pile. "Here is the map of the infinite stairs." he hands it to Kale. Turning to Merric. "Have you decided what it is you wish to have from this library?"
The feeling is disorienting as the hand draws the memory out. There's a brief moment of a feeling of warmth that he didn't know he possessed constricts, and is replaced by a deep chill. And then the memory is gone, and all that is left is a fleeting sense of loss, which quickly fades. Blinking, Kale looks at the map in confusion.
Yes... I made a deal to get this... but what was it again?
Try as he might, he can't remember. He frowns. It seemed rather irresponsible of him to trade a memory away like that. I shouldn't do that again. That was much too cavalier. Why did I take a risk like that?
Turning the map this way and that, he hands it over to the others. "Here... I think you'd better hold on to this... I'm not feeling myself right now," he says, putting a hand to his forehead.
Something is different. But what has changed? Try as he might, he can't seem to remember.
Kale even got the answer:"You just traded a piece of yourself - your memory - for that paper, whatever it is. And become lesser for it. Hope the paper was worth it."Out loud - Al-Ashari had a feeling people would prefer that way of communication here - she asked: "Did we get what we came here for?"
Merric eyes Kale. I suppose some things are worth the price but without knowing what we need...
He looks at the creature. “I’m not knowin’ what be available and the price be high to be guess in’. I may be comin’ back but, fer now, thanks fer yer time.”
Turning back to the others, he says, “Praps we ought tuh be leavin’ now we...Kale...bought the map.”
"Yes... we shouldn't take any unnecessary risks," Kale says after a moment of silence. "Let's get back to safety before we meet anything worse than what's already assaulted us here." He beckons his goat closer and gives the creature an apologetic pat on the head. "Sorry for putting you in danger, old boy," he tells it remorsefully.
When you look at the map it is readable. It shows a spiral going upwards, with notations at each landing that tells you what doors there lead to. Of note there are landings with more than one door on them.
As you move to the exit you suddenly notice one of your party is missing. Sometime during your travel of the library Lia disappeared. As you all know what dangers you faced together in this library, a solitary person would have no chance once separated. There is no doubt in any of your minds that she is now with Thursday, where ever that is.
(Lia has been removed from the game.)
Getting to the exit is far easier than expected. Once the decision was made to leave, the library seemed more than willing to let you do so. Only a few turns and you suddenly are at the exit, then walking outside into the torrential downpour.
Whitegaze will look around at the rain and missing Lia, "Wonderful. Well, let's decide where we're going and try that map. I'm inclined to head to this dungeon or whatever it is, anyone else?"
Merric nods in agreement. "What happened to the lass, I wonder? I can't hold out much hope fer the lass, but I'm wishin' her luck. I'm thinkin' the dungeon is a good idea. Anyone else agree?"
Whitegaze gives her a puzzled look before remembering her recent misfortune, “With any luck, a girls soul and a few answers to the mysteries of this place. With a lot of luck, far more than I’ve any reason to expect, knowledge of how to leave or fix this place.”
Kale nods, uncharacteristically quiet for once. Not that he seems to realize it. "Getting this rain to let up would go a long way to restoring some sanity to this plane," he says. "Let's hope there's an answer to that hiding in this dungeon somewhere."
Sounds good. First you need to find an entrance to the invisible stairs. You know of several, which do you wish to go to? I am guessing the one in the tavern, but let me know if you want to do the dancing spider or the red shrine instead.
"Hmmm," Merric mused. "I'm thinkin' we should be headin' to the nearest o' the entrances. The sooner begun, the sooner done. 'For another o' us goes missin'."
I actually wouldn't mind stopping by the Tavern again. There's a chance Al-Ashari could get her memories back with a greater restoration potion from Cicero, if she had one left. Kale certainly has one left and if we were dungeon delving, he'd probably want to carry it along on his person (unless it goes bad if you don't immediately drink from it or something). (OOC)
Kale frowns. "Why don't we just use the entrance by Cicero's tavern? It's the safest, our safe harbor in this entire city. And Al-Ashari might have forgotten who Cicero is, so that's not optimal. Particularly since I think she's the one who has mastered the teleportation magics."

As they start moving away, Whitegaze will suddenly jerk his head up and glance over at the others, "Has anyone checked that we can read the map?"

"Probably best before we lose anyone... or anything else in our group," Kale says.
"Why do you want to go to some dungeon and what do you intend to find there?" Al-Ashari was not confrontational but curious.
