Dwal will take the gold, on behalf of the party, very graciously but will say little else. He does not have anything to bring up in the council meeting so he will say nothing. He does, however, keep an eye out for people taking interest in the party as they leave and won't mention the payment or anything till the party reaches their lodgings.
"That much gold in a place full of pirates doesn't make it too safe." he will tell them.
Dwal will think for a moment then say, in the safety and privacy of their residence. "Ever wonder where a small town such as this one has so much gold on hand? We got payment of 700 from the council an' Aubreck's offered us more fer that fer the salvage. If'n ya ask me this little place is more than some fishing village"
Buoyed by thoughts of their upcoming voyage (and a bit of Lankus's ale) Peri is a ray of sunshine in the Council Hall. He bows gracefully when Mrs. Owland expresses the town's gratitude. He's pleased to hear the Council is entering an alliance with the lizardfolk, or at least against the sahuagin. When she says the weapons will be returned to their scaly neighbors, with an indemnity to boot, Peri can hardly believe it. He leans over and whispers to Gerrard, "Brandobaris preserve me, but I think they're doin' the smart thing here! Looks like the gnoll attack got 'em to set aside their normal squabblin'."
Studying the members of the Council, Peri settles on the young Anders Solmor as the likeliest backer for refitting their (and in his mind it's already theirs) new ship. "That's our man," he says, partly to himself but also partly to Kei, with whom he hasn't yet shared his scheme. When the meeting looks to be wrapping up, Peri will approach him. "Mr. Solmor, I don't know as we've ever properly met. I was wonderin' if I might have a few minutes of your time to discuss some business not relatin' to the town?"
If Anders is willing to talk Peri would like to pitch him the idea of fronting the materials necessary to recover the Emperor of the Waves, emphasizing how useful it might be to have another ship in the fight against the sahuagin.
Happy the negotiations have already gone so well, Gerrard takes a step forward and bows politely when Eda finishes speaking. "Thank you for the reward, Councilor Owland, and indeed the rest of the council," he starts, duplicating the same small bow to each council member. "I am thankful that negotiations have gone so well and we have a new ally in the region. Thank you as well, Ambassadors Garurt and Vyth, for your part in this alliance. You do Queen Othokent much honor," he adds, now bowing to the two Lizardfolk ambassadors.
"With the battle to recover the LIzardfolk ancestral home several weeks away, our group is planning to leave in the morning for a mission on behalf of Master Aubreck," says Gerrard, offering, "Though if you think it helpful, I could pen a letter to my father yet tonight to give him a first-hand account of our encounter with the Queen." Thinking for a moment, he adds, "Perhaps our alliance with the Lizardfolk will improve our intelligence on the matter of the cult of Xolor, as the Queen mentioned she had heard of them before. I would be willing to take part in a journey to Abbey Island and take the fight to the cultists, when the time is right."
Gerrard will bow again and step back to his location with the others. If his offer is accepted, he will write a letter to his father detailing their experiences with the LIzardfolk. Realizing he hasn't checked in recently, he will add a personal section for his mother to update her on his health and the friends he has made.

Kerric Brightblade - Elven Warrior in "Apocalypse"
Dwal's eyes widen a bit as Gerrard explains the party's intentions for the next few days and he looks up at the human then back to the council. "Why don't ye announce when we be bathin' as well or where we be takin' our hard-earned payment."he will say in a hushed tone out the side of his mouth.
The meeting concludes. Oweland, starting to comprehend Gerrard's relationship to the Duke, becomes quite interested in obtaining his help - via a letter or any other means - in getting military assistance from Seaton.
Peri approaches Solmar to introduce himself. Solmar is sunny and optimistic, delighted to chat. He is a slight man with sharp features and a toothy smile. He's a bit of a popular local celebrity and folk hero (at least on the docks), you've learned, having done extremely well in trading after the death earlier this year of his mother, who formerly owned the family company. Since the company owns both a fishing fleet and several trading vessels, Solmar can sell his catch at a highly competitive price. He's eager to hear Peri's ideas. "Tell me more! Tell me more!"
A tall, lean, tan, well-dressed man with short silver hair quickly and politely interjects himself into the conversation. He introduces himself as Skerrin Wavechaser, Solmar's butler and personal assistant. He listens to your conversation intently, his hands clasped behind his back.
How much information is Peri sharing about Aubreck and the Emperor?
"It seems Mr Aubrek lost a ship a ways back. But now that ship's been spotted adrift, no signs of life aboard her. Mr Aubrek wants to know what happened on her last voyage and doesn't want her fallin' into pirate hands. I'm sure you can agree we don't need any more pirates out there. Anyhow, he asked us to check her out, recover any bodies that might still be aboard, so's they can get a proper burial, and then scuttle the ill-fated vessel. He offered us ten percent of whatever cargo we recover, if there's any aboard, and guaranteed us a couple hundred gold if we can't recover any more, as it's possible the cargo is lost or ruined." Peri isn't lying about any of this, but he's certainly downplaying the value of the 'cargo' they're to recover. The bit about the 200 gp guarantee -- technically an advance, but effectively a guaranteed minimum, so it's not a lie -- was meant to give the impression that if any cargo is recovered, it's not likely to be more than a few thousand max. "Well, I asked the man, 'What about if we can bring her in to port?' And he says he considered the ship lost, so if by some miracle we can get her into port, he'd sign the title over to us. It's a long shot; report says she has no mast, so obviously no sails, and we can only guess the state of her hull. Likely as not she'll be sunk before we even get there, and she may well be past savin'. But I'm an optimist so I say, 'Plan for the best case.' So we need at least a mast and spars, sailcloth -- I can stitch some sails on the way out -- and rigging to hold it all. I was hopin' you'd be able to lend the lot to us. If the ship's too far gone we'll just return your gear. If we can bring her in, though, we'll work to pay you back for it."
"He found the ship! That's exciting!" Solmor glances at Wavechaser, then scratches his scalp, thinking. "Mast, spars, sails, rigging... I could sell you everything you need for, say, 400 gold... But. what if I were to lend it to you, for a half-share of the title? I have a wharf, shipbuilders, crew even. You could maintain captaincy, of course. We could be partners!"
Wavechaser looks impressed. He interjects, "That's exciting news! Where is the ship now?"
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Kei
Standing slightly apart from Peri and Anders, Kei whispers a quiet word while discreetly pointing at the halfling.
For Peri:
They seem overly interested in the ghost ship. Pick your words carefully.
He steps towards the negotiations. "If I might be so bold. 400 gold is probably more than the entire cargo is worth. From what we've been told the ship has been adrift for many moons. If you could perhaps lower the price, to say 150 gold, then we might have a deal. You see if we dont find anything of value, then I'm afraid we shall have wasted everyone's time and you'd end up with a share of nothing. Wouldn't you rather be paid up front and know that your pockets are lined, no matter the outcome."
Kei attempts to convince Anders that selling them the tack is a much better option than taking a share.
Peri nods at Kei's dissemination. "Until we know the state the ship's in, I don't think we're ready to talk about partnerships, though we could be open to the idea if she's worth saving. I'll pay for the goods from my own pocket; this is my hare-brained scheme, after all, and no sense risking the others' money on a long shot. But 400 is a bit steep." Peri attempts to help Kei's negotiation.
To the assistant Peri says, "Mr Aubrek didn't say precisely where it was found. He's booked us passage on a ship that should be leaving by the end of the week, maybe ten days at the latest." Technically true, he thinks. "I figured today was my best opportunity to ask, though."
But 400 is a bit steep." Peri attempts to help Kei's negotiation.

"Mr Aubrek didn't say precisely where it was found. He's booked us passage on a ship that should be leaving by the end of the week, maybe ten days at the latest." Technically true, he thinks.
Technically true but probably misleading. Roll a Deception check!
((Whaaaaat??? Peri is the very picture of honesty! Persuasion7, Deception7))
Solmar does some mental calculations in his head and responds, "I can come down to 325, and offer a full refund on any unused materials that are returned in acceptable condition, but I'm afraid I can go no lower than that. But do think about my offer!"
Wavechaser raises an eyebrow at Peri's anticipated schedule.
The ale and cakes run out, and the meeting begins to break up.
"You'll refund what's not used? Well, can't ask for a better deal than that! And if we manage to wrangle her into port 325 would seem well worth it! Yessir, I'll take that deal." Peri shakes the man's hand enthusiastically, then gives him a serious look. "I appreciate your willingness to extend some help. I'll think on your offer of partnership. If my companions agree, I may well take you up on it." He beams again. "Now, who should I see about gettin' these materials? I'd like to get 'em sorted before our ship is ready to sail, in case they want to leave earlier than expected."
((I hope Peri hasn't let too much slip in his excitement. Now that the cat is at least partly out of the bag though, they'll probably need to get to sea ASAP.))
A good dinner with friends and perhaps a discussion of their group name, a hot bath, and an early bedtime are on the menu for Gerrard. Perhaps dividing the reward, with setting some aside for party funds? Gerrard would be fine with paying for the ship supplies out of party funds unless Peri wants to feel ownership of the vessel individually instead of as a representative of the group.
We should also discuss over dinner visiting Abbey isle on the way there or on the way back, or perhaps a quick turnaround after getting back and claiming their reward from Aubreck...

Peri is wound up over dinner. He says the party can pitch in or not for the ship's rigging. He only told Solmor that he'd be paying for it himself to give the impression that it was a fool's errand, with himself being the fool, and the rest of the party not enthusiastic about the idea. He was trying to undersell the odds of them recovering the ship. But Wavechaser didn't seem to be buying it. Peri thinks they should get the rigging first thing in the morning, finish up any business they need to attend to, and get underway as soon as possible. His only tasks before they go are to visit Brinehald at the temple, to get a blessing and see if he has any useful info about what may have happened to the Emperor, and he'd like to buy those Slippers of Spider Climbing from the Quartermasters.
The shady bard has no particular business to attend to. He will spend the evening with the party, enjoying the meal at the Goat and the discussion about the coming adventure. He will accompany Peri on his errands if the halfling will have him. The Quartermaster, while a bit intimidating, always seems to have interesting items and he would hate to miss out on a bargain if new stock had arrived.
