After contributing to the "Cook" Dwal will get himself dressed to make his way to the market. "We should be dressed for the weather and seas so new clothing might be in order."Dwal says. "Don't forget you promised to sign Aubrecks contact this morning." Dwal continues. "While yer there ye can make that decision on when we leave." With that Dwal will dress and go out to get warmer clothing.
Peri and Gerrard head out to Solmar's office, through a thin, drifting snow that melts when it hits the ground. They find a sparse but busy office attached to a huge warehouse, along the crowded waterfront, almost across from the Dwarven Anvil. Solmar is nowhere to be found, but two of his employees are on duty. Wavechaser is there, too, dressed in an impeccable outfit not exactly congruent with this busy waterfront workplace. He smiles and nods politely when you enter.
"Good morning," says Wavechaser. "We have your order prepared. Mast, spars, sailcloth, rigging, hardware. Sailmaking and carpentry tools. There's the matter of 325 gold, and then we'll be happy deliver it to your vessel. Do you need anything else?"
-- --
Meanwhile, Dwal accompanies Armand to the Green Market, where he looks for warmer, weatherproof clothing as Armand haggles loudly with a pan vendor. He is only there a few minutes browsing the rain gear before Dwal is greeted by a tall and imposing figure - Captain Xondros. She smiles a cold thin smile. "Good morning, dwarf. Are you preparing for a journey?"
Peri happily counts out 325 gold. As he does so, it occurs to him that this would have seemed like a ridiculous fantasy just a couple of weeks ago. Throwin' around hundreds of gold pieces like so many coppers! And all for a chance to get your own boat. He directs Wavechaser to have the materials delivered to the Soul of Winter, and can't seem to keep the silly grin off his face.
When their business is done he will head straight to the Soul of Winter to meet with the captain and let him know of the additional cargo. Now that things are arranged he is itching to get to sea.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Kei
Watching the others head out in preparation of the upcoming trip gives Kei an idea."I'm headed to Kester's, see if he doesn't have something a little lighter than this" he lifts his robe and thumbs at his chain shirt.
The bard heads straight to the Tanner's. He seeks a set of leathers, preferably studded and ideally with some waxy or oily treatment in the hopes it will serve him better on the open ocean.
With or without a new set of leathers he will return to the cottages to finish any additional preparations. Once complete he heads to the docks to meet up with Peri and the others.
Kei finds Kester has some very fine, waterproof, oiled studded leather for 50 gp. They have a bit a sheen to them, too, for visibility in the water in bad weather. "Beasts and monstrosities. If you cross any more big ones or rare ones, remember to keep their hides for me! I'm looking for a giant shark hide for a boot idea I'm wanting t' make."
--
Meanwhile, at the docks, Solmar's gang is unfamiliar with the Soul of Winter, but they will load a transport barge to deliver the supplies when it arrives and anchors. They are familiar with Aubreck, who sometimes leases wharfage from them, and rents a small portion of their warehouse.
--
Aubreck is delighted to see Gerrard (and his signature.) He can arrange for the Soul of Winter to anchor by noon to pick you up. "Go get me my box! I'll make you rich, my boy!"

He is only there a few minutes browsing the rain gear before Dwal is greeted by a tall and imposing figure - Captain Xondros. She smiles a cold thin smile. "Good morning, dwarf. Are you preparing for a journey?"
Dwal
Dwal looks up and eyes Xondros up and down for a moment, a bit amused by the woman. "My old dwarven bones ache in this damp an' snowin' so I was just lookin' fer somethin' to keep me dry and warm since I'm sleepin' so near the coast now." Dwal says.
"I see. I can acquire an arcane ring for you, that will accomplish this purpose, if you so desire," she says to Dwal in her lightly accented Common. Her demeanor is intense and imposing, but restrained.
Xondros drums her fingers on her chin and furrows her brow in thought. Her jewelry - mostly depicting skulls and headless corpses - jangles in the open air. "To walk atop the water? Or to aid in swimming or diving? Or for survival? I might know of some items which may be of interest. I would need a day or two. Would you be able to visit me in my office in three days time?"
"Fine workmanship indeed. Do you have want of this chain shirt? Seems your leathers can provide as much protection as this heavy thing." He admires the stitching and craftsmanship of the armour in his hands. It is much lighter than his existing armour and much more flexible. The thought of changing right there in the store crosses his mind, but he thinks better of it and instead offers Kester the chain shirt.
Upon returning to their HQ, Kei takes up a cross legged position on the floor of his room. He summons Trill from its pocket dimension. "Hello little one. I didn't want to just dismiss you without warning."He speaks in a soft, low tone. "Seems we might be headed off shore for a while. No place for an owl like you. Thank you for your help in our recent adventures. You go rest now and hunt to your heart's content." He begins a chant while lighting a stick of sickly sweet smelling incense. Trill becomes corporeal and then disappears completely. In his place a tiny crab emerges. "Well, you're something! I shall call you Krill." Kei chuckles at the name. Hopefully it's not an omen to your fate.
His new companion summoned, Kei gets to final preparations. He changes into his new leathers. Surprised by how much better they feel than the pinching of the chain links, he goes through a series of poses to test the flexibility. "Hmm. Good man that Kester." He stows the chain shirt (if it was not traded) and gathers the rest of his belongings. "Let's go Krill. Bad guys to defeat and all that."
Kester isn't interested in purchasing your used chain - "I'm a leatherworker, not a blacksmith." She refers you to the Dwarven Anvil to unload your chain.
Krill snaps its claws in excitement of the upcoming adventure.

As the noon hour approaches, unless you have other business, the party gathers on Solmar's wharf, awaiting pickup. A transport barge with a crane also waits - the masts it is loaded with are massive, 80-foot-long timbers.
The wharf swarms with fishermen and longshoremen loading and unloading vessels. Wavechaser and his foreman watch from their office, engaged in quiet conversation.
"Thank ye but, I have business for the next few days. I will look back later."Dwal tells her.
Dwal will return to the cottage and prepare for the next journey, gathering his gear and stowing it in the [magic item]Bag of Holding[/magic item] and his spell component pouch. Dwal will pick up the staff, call Bjorn to his shoulder, and set out to the wharf and the rest of the party.
Having finished his various errands for the morning (let's also deduct say 20 gp for upkeep and stabling of his horse while he is gone plus misc. use of parchment & ink, a few edible & potable treats to ease the voyage, etc.), Gerrard shows up at the docks shortly before noon and takes a deep breath of the sea air. Still dressed as a noble, he nevertheless has his most durable clothing on and a few sets of spares in his pack, a goodly supply of parchment and ink with his calligraphy tools, his trusty dice set, and one of the books from the Dwarven Citadel library--with Dwal's permission of course--to wile away the anticipated long hours at sea.
"It has been awhile since I have ridden the high seas, Master Fenwader, but I recall the moments of high adventure as mere punctuation between much longer periods of quiet and solitude at sea. Perhaps we our company will be able to learn from each other as we travel. I am more than willing to train weapons or teach calligraphy, and I hope to learn more about sailing if possible," says the young noble, pleased to see Peri so engaged and ready to go to sea.
OOC: Suggesting we use the voyage to learn skills/tools/languages from each other during downtime, if that works.

Gerrard Feldren - Human Noble in Ghosts of Saltmarsh
Kerric Brightblade - Elven Warrior in "Apocalypse"
Upon learning that the Soul of Winter isn't in port yet, Peri will hurry to the market to pick up a few items. He buys another fresh set of clothes -- adventurin' is hard on clothes; never thought I'd be spendin' so much time tryin' to keep my backside covered -- fishing tackle, and a pen, ink, and some papers, intending to copy the captain's charts of at least the Saltmarsh area on the way out, so they can navigate back if all goes well.
When he meets Gerrard at the docks he agrees enthusiastically with the noble's suggestion of using the travel time to learn. "Aye, there's a good bit of time to fill up, even as a crewman. With no jobs to be done or watches to stand, there'll be even more. I don't know what I can teach you, unless you're interested in crewin' a ship or learnin' to navigate on the open sea. But I've been thinkin' it'd be good to learn to speak to our sea elf friend directly. Granted, he doesn't say much, but it'd still be nice if you didn't have to translate his every word."
((OOC: Did Gerrard already write the letters of support for the alliance? Also, have Brinehald or his people come out to bless their journey? And finally, question for the group: do you think it would be worthwhile to deceive Wavechaser about our departure? Maybe load the supplies and then come back ashore, let it be known about town that we'll be leaving in the morning, then sneak out at night? Or is that too elaborate for little gain? I just worry that shifty weasel is scheming to steal our prize.))
Gerrard: (let's also deduct say 20 gp for upkeep and stabling of his horse while he is gone plus misc. use of parchment & ink, a few edible & potable treats to ease the voyage, etc.),
(I would argue that stabling and care of Gerrard's horse is included as part of his lifestyle expenses. Good Ink, however, is expensive, as is parchment - that'd run Gerrard and Peri about 12 gp each for a good supply.)

(Everyone may purchase common supplies now at regular PHB prices from the Green Market and from local merchants. Just list them here and now, and update your sheets.)
(I assumed that the letter of support was completed last night at the end of the Council meeting - let me know if that was not your assumption.)
(Brinehald has not yet blessed the party. You paid for it - didn't you? - so you hope he or his people will be along shortly.)
OOC: Gerrard wrote the letter of support last night after the council meeting and gave it to Oweland then. He has already paid for the blessing. 12 gp works for me, just wasn't sure how to handle lifestyle expenses while on the ship. Did we ever split the reward money? I say we pay for the ship repair out of the 700 gp then divide the rest equally and give it to each person.
700 - 325 = 375, 375/5 = 75 gp each. Does that work for everyone? We would all feel like we contributed to the ship recover if it works out that way.
...just wasn't sure how to handle lifestyle expenses while on the ship...
(Ah - that's a good question. Normally stabling would cost perhaps 1sp/day, but in this case your horse is being stabled by the Saltmarsh Guard, and Farbern will not charge you as long you remain in the service of the Council. They still potentially have plans for you.)
A modest size merchant ship arrives and ties up at the wharf. It disgorges a group of rough-looking human sailors, as Solmar's longshoremen scurry to unload a large number of barrels from its hold. One of the sailors spits at Dwal as she passes.
Aubreck's half-orc butler Vertheg arrives quietly and joins your party. "They'll be here soon," he says.
Joining Dwal and locking eyes with the one who spat on him, Gerrard whips out his handkerchief and wipes the spittle off his friend’s boot. “That seemed...unnecessary, Brother Fiercehammer. Is that a new personal record for upsetting a newcomer?”
