Cragmyre nearly trips over Klee and Tahta as the three simultaneously bust off the door lock, his momentum carrying him slightly into the room. He looks around flummoxed and out of his element at the rest of the party begin their investigations. When Deetwolf ((XD)) begins leading the party out on a chase he speaks up. "Hold. I do not like the smell of this; I would like you all to stay as safe as possible. I offer us the blessing of my ancestors." Cragmyre closes his eyes for a brief moment, and each party member feels a guardian presence, their steps softened and erased by some ancestral force as the genasi casts pass without trace. He is silent for a moment as Tahta voices her questions. "Perhaps it closed? Severed Mrs. Fletchers fingers, and that chair, as they fell?"

Arden loops the rope in a knot around Deetwolf’s neck in such a way that if Deetwolf pulls on it the knot will come undone. He narrows his eyes and says in a gruff voice. Right, lets go walkies.
I wish we knew the cause of this. Is it a robbery? A kidnapping? Or both? A home invaded and someone taken. This...is most upsetting to me. Missing children. Missing...mother. Taken from each other...
You make your way onto the streets with DeetWolf in the lead. Klee studies the log book as you all follow. The city is starting to wake and people are coming out of houses on their way to work, mostly they head to the docks over to the east. No one takes much notice of the eclectic party of Wolf Walkers but a small girl does point and day "Doggie!"
For Klee;
Mrs Fletcher has had many more than three lodgers in the last year and a half but she did have three that have left behind belongings. Handily, she marked them in the margins of the log book;
Rowan Copperpot - Lost at Sea BIA
Arman Hammertongs - Died of old age BIA No family :(
Brie & Molly Mcguffin - Ran off? BIA
From context you gather BIA stands for Belongings In Attic. From what you remember the boxes for Rowan and Arman were still there. You also notice that Brie & Molly stayed in the room you now occupy.
Deet, you follow the Not Rats trail through street and alleys winding this way and that. You soon find yourselves in the warehouse district of the docklands and here the trail ends at a large building that looks to be in disrepair. The street are now getting busier but still no one takes much notice.
As we arrive at the large building, he switches back into halfling form, stands up, removes the collar from his neck, and hands it back to Arden. Good disguise, thanks,he says brightly, and then turns to look at the building. In there, I think. There's a Not Rat in there, or there was. Something that was trying to be a rat but was definitely not a rat. This is... I've not visited this part of the city before. It smells... very different.
Tahta, you notice a man who slows when he comes to the small door that is inset into the large double doors of the warehouse and then keeps walking when he sees your party watching the premises. He has an armful of what Rashakians call Pullcot which is throw away fish and radishes fried in herbs.
For Deet:
The Not Rat does not really smell like a transformed being (which you have smelt before) but more like something that has never been a rat and actually arrived from somewhere... not of this realm.
Not a transformed creature, no. Something that came from another place, and poured itself into a rat shape because it didn't have another, maybe? Deet frowns. I don't really know. Never smelled anything like it.
"Other place..? What kind o'.. other... place?" Klee softly frets, but on hearing Tahta's warning she stops thinking about those kinds of things. Instead she shakes Deet's hand and bows - her mits move to pocket some imaginary coppers he's just given her. "Thank you sir, bless you sir!" she coos as she backs up, still bowing, then continues along the street -
(Depending on where we start relative to him, either continue along on the opposite side of the road to the Fish-gopher, or fall in behind and try to look inconspicuous. But either way if he ducks off the main street into a quieter area, move in to shank approach him.)
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.

Given they're shouting at him, Klee gives up all pretence of not following the suspect and just goes back to watch the door, tutting and muttering most of the way there.

What do you all do?
Deet wags his tail at the little girl.

I realize it may have sounded ambiguous, Klee is with the party, she was studying the log book as she followed.

Can everyone please roll an Insight check.
Deet's insightful Insight 6
(I'm confused - when Klee looked for a log book yesterday there wasn't one because it wasn't that kind of guest house?)

Klee, You find the log book in Mrs Fletchers room. It is more of a ledger that Mrs Fletcher used for keeping track of monies owed.
(did they buy it? Shut up and keep moving..)

So not a rat in the same way you are not a wolf?

Tahta tries to be subtle to alert the party with a nudge, a cough, and a nod in the man's direction.
He was headed inside til he saw us.
Cragmyre seems most upset as the party makes their way. "And after we showed kindness. Disgraceful repayment."

Cragmyre, as far as you're aware pass without trace is still working but there is probably only 10 minutes left or so before it fades away.
Even with Arden's rather persuasive request the dishevelled young man suddenly drops the armful of Pullcot and runs.
The chase, if you wish it, is on.
