"I know mending techniques, if you would prefer to get a head start then I can stay behind and make the necessary repairs," Wes offers. "If the last islands are any indication, there is another staff somewhere on this island, and possibly the last piece of the crystal staff. If only we knew what the crystal is good for...anyway, I'll see if I can deduce that once the ship has been repaired."
The air on the beach is sweltering, despite the relatively cool overcast weather a moment ago. A massive primordial jungle borders the white sand beach perimeter of the island, and the humid breeze smells of rot. The source is readily apparent; further down the beach lies an enormous carcass with small two-legged lizards picking at it.
Gruun will move into the edge of the jungle and bring back an armful of trees. "These should help with the repairs. Give me a moment to try and find us a path through here." "As a matter of interest, I wonder if that beast died of sickness, or if something larger killed it," Killian muses, but she does not move down the beach towards it.

ey/em/eirs, or they/them works, too (just not he). Role-playing since that keep on those borderlands. I love it so.
Tanakir studies the carcass briefly, "Perhaps it washed up on the shore. The real concern is those lizards. If we have to go through the jungle to climb that peak, I don't want them pestering us the whole way there. Perhaps we can communicate with them."
He'll cast tongues on himself before walking over to the lizards, calling out, "Hello! We are travelers who have just arrived to this island. We're looking for pieces of a crystal staff, would you happen to know of anything of the sort? Other magical staffs would also be appreciated."
The carcass is unlike anything Tanakir has ever seen before. It is massive, larger than any natural beast that he has seen before in Faerûn.
OOC: These lizards are small beasts, not humanoid like the centaurs you met. I'll wait for Tanakir to confirm whether he still wants to cast Tongues and attempt to speak with them.
What facts does Gruun with to learn from his communication with nature? They can be within those categories, but what facts would he like to learn about those categories specifically?
He is looking to find any sort of path or trail leading towards the mountain and just about the jungle itself; is the jungle more of an overgrown swamp, is the undergrowth too thick to move through etc. If there are any powerful entities of those types present (Especailly after all that undead on the other island) If there are any building or constructs nearby and where they are.
At the junction of the jungle and beach, a large spiritual bear forms while Gruun collects some wood to repair the damage done to Maverick. As he takes down a tree, it imparts, No such powerful beings exist here. The journey is long, but passable. Persist, and you will see buildings of metal within."
OOC: The lizards don't appear to be communicating verbally. Visibly, they just look like small animals picking at a carcass.
"We have a long way to go but there is something here. I will lead to forge a path where we don't have one to follow, seeing as if I can fit so should you all." Once everyone is ready, Gruun will start making a path through the jungle. For once he doesn't just brute force a way through only clearing what directly impedes their travel.
The jungle is thick, and the heat seems to grow with every step you take. Sweat practically pools off of your bodies only fifteen minutes into the foliage. Gruun leads the way, suddenly coming across a path that has similarly been cleared of crossing branches, though with a much different method. Rather than seeing cut trees and leaves, the flora all appears to be windswept off of the path; much of it with enough force to be broken.
Even stranger, a note written on a sheet of parchment lies just to the side of the path among some floral carnage. It reads:
I've killed so many of us. I don't understand why I'm doing this. I found the book, I read it. I changed my cloak to yellow to hide. But I always find me.
I've killed my self a few times that I know of, but I've murdered myself so many times.
But I can fix it! I can get to the interior, find the temple, steal the piece of the rod, once I have that piece the rest will be easy. But if it catches me, if I can't...
I'd rather Denorian got me.
If I find this, don't read the book if you haven't already, just find the Shrine of the Magi. Save our soul.
Tanakir reads the note thoughtfully before speaking, 'What this means... is that inside that book is some key insight as to Denorian's motivations. It's essential that we know what's in that book. If the rest of you bind and gag me, then I can safely read it without endangering any one of you. In the worst case, you'll be forced to kill me, but hopefully it doesn't come to that."

(Are these lizardmen/centaurs (humanoids), or just scavenger lizard creatures (animals), it seems there may be some confusion...)

(I took them as being closer to humanoid, but even if they're more feral there's still a chance of communication)
