The further into the island you trek, the closer the foliage grows. It takes hours to cross through this jungle territory, and the vines, trees, and undergrowth have started to grow back into the path further in.
The writhing vines and grasping roots poke, prod, trip, and menace you for the next two hours, until a slight rumble can be felt in the ground. As the rumble grows, the plants almost seem to retract from the center of the path.
The trees to the side of the path part as an object the size of a tree trunk crashes through them and lands before you. Gazing upward reveals that the trunk is connected to an even larger body, which connects the second leg of this huge beast that stands before you.
The upper limbs of the creature are much smaller, but its protruding nose and rows of sharp teeth the size of sword blades seem its most dangerous feature. Thrice the size of Gruun and Rycider, this ancient being sniffs warily at the air, gazing around you but not staring at any one in particular.
Hox cocks his head back to take in the full size of the beast. He doesn't know what to call the beast as its features resemble no animals that he knows of. The few that are there contradict with each other. Its skins reminds him of the scaled ones but too large to be one. Its size is comparable to dragons yet lacks wings. Hox is puzzled at the creature.
The gigantic reptilian creature doesn't wait for Gruun to finish his casting. It sniffs at the air for another few moments before continuing on its intersecting path into the jungle. The rumbling from its footsteps does not stop, however, as two more of these huge creatures follow right behind it, one in front of and one behind the party's march. These as well stop in their tracks.
One of them bends low, nearly to ground level, and inhales near Aradurk. The wind entering the creature's massive nostrils shifts the half-orc a few inches, and the clanking armor seems to illicit an adverse response in its companion, which opens its mouth wide and unleashes a mighty roar.
Aradurk sniffs, his nostrils flaring wide. "Yeah, we get it. This is your place. Now, please make like my ex and leave", Aradurk says with a smile as big as he can muster.

The lack of aggression seems to satisfy the crouching beast, which lifts its head to look back from whence it came. A fourth creature tramps across the path shortly thereafter, paying you no heed, and once the others have gone the more agitated of the quartet follows after a final snort at the party. The trembling ground slowly recedes as their distance increases, leaving the path open again before you.
"Something much bigger than us. I'll have to be better prepared if talking is needed again. There should be something metal ahead of us. Lets get there before they decide they're hungry." Gruun will start quickly moving down the path, listening for anything large coming towards them.

"Well, if he has been here searching for the book, we may as well take this path. Lets keep out ears open."

"This bodes well," Killian mutters, sweat plastering her hair to her face.
ey/em/eirs, or they/them works, too (just not he).
Role-playing since that keep on those borderlands. I love it so.
Rycider readies herself for combat
Tanakir draws his club, casting shillelagh on it as he steps forward and focuses his Divine Sense.

Aradurk studies it very closely, not moving, trying to identify any potential weakness in the creature.

Gruun will begin to quietly try and cast Speak with Animals. If it starts attacking he'll stop casting and join the fray.
OOC: Unfortunate reminder, the spell tool tip leaves out the ritual casting time taking 10mins, not 1 action.
Killian freezes in place, watching the creature carefully, then shifting her eyes as Gruun begins speaking softly and moving his hands.

Tanakir does his best to watch Gruun and the creature simultaneously, tightening his grip on his club.
