“...Ulla? ULLA?!...damn it...”. Robwin looks back from the corridor to the room, just in time to see the monster crunch it’s jaws around Tahnis’s body... “Nooooo!”. He falls back slightly against the cold stone of the cavern entrance.
He pats himself down... “Potions, potions, shit, where are they?!”. Then he mentally runs through every spell he’s ever known... nothing, nothing any use! Then he looks down in despair at his hands and sees Ulla’s wand. He holds it up before him, then (shaking) points it out towards the creature, hoping it’ll somehow lend extra oomph to his next spell.
He uses the ready-action to prepare fire bolt for when Lia pesters the monster with her own help-action (to gain advantage on the roll).
Lia flies out and flaps around the barrel monster. At the same time Robwin releases his spell: Attack: 20 Damage: 5
(Lia uses flyby to get back without provoking an attack of opportunity).

Prosper's used enough to injuries that she doesn't falter at the crunch of bone, but it's still worse than anything she'd ever seen. "Tahnis, when we get out of this I promise I'll apologize to you a thousand times." Prosper darts in, slicing at the monster to draw away it's attention. "I'll keep it busy, Adas, can you heal him?"
Vimak steps towards the barrel creature. He plants his feet, gets his shield between it and him, and swings at it with his battle axe: 17 for 10 damage. He tries to maneuver to do the most damage and get close to Tahnis, occupying E14.
@Prosper, Yep! No problem. Also, Tahnis, I made a bit of a mistake with the last post so you can add 2 health back.
As the missiles slam into the creature, Robwin calls out to Ulla, but the two gnomes disappear down the halls of the cave, Pog's screams slowly fading away as he get further and further. Prosper runs up towards the creature and manages to get a good jab in before retreating back as Vimak's bolt sinks into the creatures body. Tahnis continues to struggle against the creatures grasp but fails, though Adas runs up besides him and slashes through the creature.
The creature continues to squeeze Tahnis and gnaws through his flesh with its teeth.
Bite vs Tahnis:25Damage: 11 + 8
With a sickening snap and crack, Tahnis' body goes limp as he falls unconscious in the creatures grasp, the acid continuing to burn into his skin. (Oh... my god. Is this what it feels like to be a DM? Because I feel horrible T^T)

ROUND 2! PLAYER'S TURN
OOC: No worries, that's how the dice rolls sometimes. You're doing a good job. I've already failed a death save and I'm out cold and grappled. If Tahnis dies, I'm fine with making backup character if Tahnis gets swallowed the next round.

Botting Adas this round with Spare the Dying. @Vimak, the damage is actually 6. I don't know why but dice bot keeps re-rolling.
Lia distracts the creature as Robwin sends a bolt of fire at it, exploding on impact. Prosper goes in for another jab, trying to avoid Tahnis, but misses. Fortunately, Vimak manages to get a good slice in, almost cutting a part of the creature off. As everyone focuses on bringing down the creature, Adas places his hands on Tahnis and whispers a prayer, warming light emanating from them as he casts Spare the Dying.
Noticing that Tahnis has fallen limp in its grasp, the creature drops his body onto the ground. "wANt gNooOOoOMmMEe" The creature turns its attention to Vimak, the biggest of the bunch, and lashes out with its tongue.
Pseudopod vs Vimak: 21Damage: 11
It's tongue slams against Vimak's chest, sticking to his body and wrapping itself around him. Vimak is now grappled.
Robwin sees Adas tending Tahnis and relaxes a little.
He casts another fire bolt through Ulla’s wand: Attack: 18 Damage: 10 ...the wand gives a massive jolt of damage this time, “wow, I think I could get used to this!!”
Then he shouts, “Prosper! Get ‘ready’ with your attack. Lia will distract the monster, so you can get a good hit in!”. (OOC: Lia takes the ‘help action’ to provide advantage and sneak attack to Prosper).
Lia screeches, and flies at the creature, attempting to distract it for Prosper, before flying back using flyby. (OOC: if it doesn’t work that way, let me know :-S)
Vimak clearly looks offended at the idea of being grappled. "Oh you think you can wrestle with me!" he yells. He seems torn between grappling right back and escaping the grapple on general principles. Instead, however, he'll attempt to chop the pseudopod right off: 24 for 11.
(OOC: I know targeted attacks are flavor, but fun!)
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Prosper, a little chagrined by her missed attack, nods determinedly at Robwin's suggestion. She'll hold her attack until Lia has a chance to help her gain advantage, and then leap forward, aiming for what she hoped was a weak spot, although it's hard to tell, with it being a barrel.
Attack: 20 Damage: 5 + 1 Sneak.
(Quick heads up, I've been more or less continuously awake for the past two days (assignments yay), so, uh, might not be around to take an action next round if there is one.)
With a flick of Ulla's wand, Robwin lands another bolt of fire on the creature. Vimak struggles against the creature's grasp just enough to give him enough space to slice right through the creatures tongue as Prosper comes in with the finishing blow, piercing right into its mouth. The creature's grasp loosens around Vimak as it drops to the floor limp, next to Tahnis.
Robwin takes a few deep breaths, and calls over gingerly... "That thing... is it dead?...".
He starts to move over towards Tahnis and the others. "Is Tahnis okay? Is he breathing?!", and then after seeing him properly, "Oh gods, is he... alive?!".
Assuming we're out of immediate danger, and if Adas is happy to take the lead, Robwin will offer to (carefully) help clean the goop and acid from Tahnis's skin and clothes using prestidigitation. He knows it won't heal him, but he hopes it might stop any further burning...

Adas hovers over the downed body of Tahnis and looks up to Robwin, "He will be fine, Solonor will lend me his blessing to heal him." At this he chants lowly and brings his slightly green glowing hands to Tahnis'wounds.
Vimak shaves the sticky pseudopod off his armor with his battle ax. He turns toward one of the other barrels and, after poking it several times, finds a way to open it. He takes a long drink straight from the spigot. He pauses. "We're sure there's only one of those things, right? If we are, let's see how the gnomes can help with the dragon. Maybe get back to the town before it's attacked. What do we think?"
Anthe lets out a sigh of relief as the creature's movements halts. Just in case, however, she prods it with her rapier, to be quite sure that it's fully dead, or inanimate, whatever the case may be, before turning to face her friends. "Tahnis, you're awake now? Thank whatever gods were watching over us. I'm sorry, should have been more careful."
Robwin asks Tahnis “How you feeling? Should we rest?”. He looks around the group, “If we can find Pog and Ulla, they might get us some bread or something now too... And maybe they’ll know if there are more of these monstrosities, lurking...”. Then more to himself, “...Hells!! Maybe we need to check the rest of these caverns to be sure...”.
He looks over the body, to retrieve Pog’s wand: (Investigation: 18 )
“Adas, you think there’s anything useful to harvest from this heap?!”.
And then yelling down the corridor: “Uuuulla!! Pogggg!!... it’ssafe now! Where are you?!”.
Tahnis nods at his companions. "I'll live and don't apologize. I suppose a rest and food could help and it appears we've taken care of the shape shifter. Pog and Ulla will want to know. And yes, have them bring bread. And maybe some wine."

Robwin retrieves Pog's wand that had fallen next to the creature in the scuffle of the battle. He yells down the corridors for Ulla and Pog, his voice echoing off the walls. Its a few moments before Robwin sees Ulla's head pop around the corner to the north. She yells back at Robwin."I-I didn't run away! I was just, uh.... I was just making sure the gnomes here were safe! Y-yeah. That's what I was doing! Uh... The gross creature. A-are you sure you killed it? Like, is it really dead? Really, actually dead dead?" She attempts to sound brave but the shake in her voice gives her away. Pog does not respond to Robwin's call.
