Aphelios: "I may be able to jump over this, but that wouldn't do you three much good sitting on the other side. Nip, being a Gnome, might be able to walk a cross it without tripping it, but I don't want to take that chance."
Trefor: Looking at Nip, grinning,"you're small enough to toss over this, I think... Maybe we can find loose rocks to jam under it? Nip, Manxim, what do you think? Either of you have experience disarming a trap?"
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Talking to Trefor "Ah yes, yes, though I'd rather not be thrown around, if you don't mind."
"Yes, I believe I can try and disarm this, even though I have more book lore than field experience. Either way, I believe we should be able so secure this by preventing the plate to be pressed, even if I were unable to disarm it, we should be fine" Nip tries to introduce a crowbar in the gap beneath the plate to block it, then carefully puts slight pressure on the plate, no enough to activate it, but to test whether the crowbar is doing its thing.
"Something is off with that slit in the ceiling, in any case I say we avoid its path if possible. Now, let's see what I can do"
(Nip shows some great Rogue skills by disarming the trap in the safest way possible. It even looks like the crowbar would have been enough, but he actually disarmed it and removed the crowbar. The trap is now completely disabled.
The group crosses the bridge and reaches the other side. A stone door is there, slightly open. Something appears to be happening on the other side.)
Everyone please roll Perception and give me a pre-emptive Initiative roll.
The bridge seems sturdy, so you're not worried about crossing it. The stonework seems pretty good. Nobody else appears to be waiting for you all on the other side.
As you inspect the bridge, you notice that about halfway across, there is a part of the bridge that looks just a little bit difference than the rest. It's kind of far away, but you can tell it's a very slightly raised plate, about 10 feet across, long enough so you couldn't really jump over it unless you were very, very athletic. As you look around a little more, you see up on the ceiling a long, thin slit.
Spoiler for Trefor and Nip:
The bridge seems sturdy, so you're not worried about crossing it. The stonework seems pretty good. Nobody else appears to be waiting for you all on the other side.
I'm not sure what you're asking, but you went thru the stone door hidden in the ivy and found a big cavern with a bridge. There may be a door at the far side of the bridge you're at now, you can't really tell.
DMs note: OMG, guys, I'm so dumb. So sorry, you did. Oof, my mistake. Fixing now. To make up for it, you all get 20s on your Perception rolls for this.
As you peer inside, you see a large Bugbear, a kind of super Goblin, who may be the leader. He looks pretty tough, with thick furs and armor, and a giant Warhammer over his shoulder. Next to him, a regular Goblin in robes stands before a makeshift altar, chanting words that appear to be part of a ritual. You adjust your angle and see that there is a couple bored patrol Goblins standing about on the right side of the room, not really paying much attention. One looks normal, the other's arm appears to be in a sling: He is injured, you're not sure by what. As you make one final adjustment, you see that on the far left corner of the room, a small girl is squatting in a small cage, her dirty, tear-stained face covered in dirt and mucus. She sobs softly, as if she has been crying for hours and hours and is just about cried out.
"Don't stop", bellows out the Bugbear at the Shaman Goblin (in common), "we're so close. Soon, this place will become a proper temple for the Goblin God, and we will consecrate it... with the blood of the innocent! Nothing will stop us!"
The Bugbear lets out an evil laugh as the Shaman Goblin continues to chant and perform the ritual.
Trefor speaks to his companions: "Looks like we've found Bess! But four guys to fight and they look tough. Can anyone turn invisible?"
Tabletalk: Don't we have a stink bomb or something? Anyone have a plan? We could charge in recklessly and try for some crit hits at advantage, but i doubt that'll work well. Maybe lure at least one out of that room into this one for a 3-on-1?
"Yes, yes! We might be able to take them out upfront, but I'm worried they could harm the little girl before we're done with them. I do have the stinkbomb. I say we lure them out (maybe with an illusion), then throw the stink bomb in to create confusion. You can hld them up why I try to sneak in, release Bess, put her to safety, and then join you to finish tem off.
If you're talking about doing an illusion, Manxim has Thaumaturgy and Aphelios has Minor Illusion available. I'd need to know what illusion exactly you're trying and who you're trying to lure out. Also, just so you know what the Stinkbomb does, it's a homebrew item I like to use, any enemies in the area where it breaks will have disadvantage on 2 rounds of fighting. I'll step back until you all come up with a concrete plan of how you want this to go down.
Aphelios motions for his companions to step around the backside of the door out of immediate view. He then raises his hands in the direction of the two goblins and twiddles his fingers in concentration. He casts Minor Illusion creating a voice in common saying, "hey dumb-dumbs, out here! I have gold!"
