Seeking one 7th level adventurer to join an in-progress campaign!
"Beyond Frost" is the second part of a sandbox campaign. Our adventurers have found themselves magically transported from Toril to a planet called Rikirta, and they must save this world to save their own.
Read through the rest of this post thoroughly, and if you are interested, follow the instructions to apply.
How To Apply:
- Rolling for stats is preferred, but Standard Array and Point Buy are also accepted for determining ability scores. If you are rolling for stats, those rolls must be made here or in a PM. Rerolls will only be allowed if there are no ability scores above 13. There are no other exceptions. If you are not comfortable with that risk, please use the Standard Array or Point Buy.
- Reply to this thread or send me a PM with the 1) race/class you would like to play, 2) a short background summary, and 3) your method of determining ability scores (include rolls if rolling). No Unearthed Arcana or homebrew characters will be accepted.
- Keep your backstory light; focus on intent over specifics. I will work with you to tailor your backstory and personal goals to NPCs and events pertinent to this campaign.
- There is only room for one additional player to this adventure, so please do not take offense if you are not selected. I run many games on this site, so keep your eyes peeled for future recruitment threads.
About The Adventure:
- Setting: Rikirta
- This is a sandbox campaign, so this adventure's length will vary based on the time it takes to complete the "main quest". The party is currently working on earning some coin and magic items through side quests and exploring.
- Rikirta is a low-magic setting where adventurers are rare. As 7th level adventurers, the party is much stronger than the typical Rikirtan adventuring group.
- If you cannot commit to posting at least once a day, excepting occasions when you let your fellow players know you will be unable to post, please do not apply. You only need to commit to this adventure, not the entire length of the campaign.
About The DM & House Rules:
- At any given time, I am running four PbP adventures on this site. Outside of D&D Beyond, I have two long-running campaigns, another group that meets irregularly, and I frequently run one-shots for friends and colleagues. With your response, please send me a PM that includes the phrase “Iron Claw” so I know I will have players that will take time to read others' posts.
- I have a gritty, realistic style. There will be descriptions of bloodshed, and (dependent on the NPC) occasional swearing. NPCs will react to you the way a normal person would react; if your character doesn't show them respect or take them seriously, your words will carry less weight to them.
- Typically, I resolve and advance once or twice a day, depending on the situation and how quickly players post.
- I strive to keep things simple in PbP games. I do not use grids, and I use grouped initiative, which keeps combat moving swiftly.
- I do not use any averages. All health and damage is rolled.
- It hasn't occurred often, but player characters can die. I do not fudge rolls and reckless actions have consequences.
Backstory: Stone is a wanderer that searches to prove himself in combat. Raised in the wilds, he believes in nothing but survival of the fittest. His respect is with those who are proven warriors and those who work as a tribe.
Ability Scores 2: (No skills above 13) Ability scores: 12161781211
Character Name: Ordrun Emeraldshield
Race: Mountain Dwarf
Class: Paladin (Oath of Ancients)
Backstory: Ordrun strove to improve the world around him in Toril, falling especially in love with the mountain environments and forests he called home. In this new world in which he lives in, he seeks to understand the natural environment, and be the light in this dark new place.
Backstory: Is he an aberration, a mistake, an experiment, blessed? Astorax doesn't know. But he's searching for answers as to why he has the powers and abilities he does and why he's never met another creature like himself before.
Class: Paladin, Oath of Conquest or whatever subclass will fit the party
Backstory: An exile from his own flock, Bleak was always striving to find a new one. Through this search of a new place he would like to call home, and the meaning of that, he encountered many complications and trials, which in turn made him sturdier and more determined. Now, equipped with his own morals and goals, he strives to help others and find someone who would help him in return. (He also may be a famous mercenary, because you mentioned that level 7 is where one would be noticed.)
I will try to post daily, but I can’t promise that I will, so just be aware of that if you decide to choose me.
Backstory: Hazzix is a bit of an oddball and persecuted by other Dragonborn for being of mixed heritage. He strives to prove he's a good person, despite looking like some of the most evil creatures in the realms.
Backstory: Rich parents spoiled him but his interest in magic and the arcane arts was always very high. He drove his relatives crazy with his antics, beating his siblings at games in ways that didn't always seem possible. Has become an investigator who ferrets out misdealings and liars. He is good at this because he knows all of the tricks.
Ability scores: 101113131212 (Ignore these. I got a string of "dice rolls not available" messages the first time, and tried again.)
Name: Marcus the Mad
Race: Variant Human
Class: Rogue (Swashbuckler)
Known for laughing in the midst of a hurricane, Marcus the Mad spent years with the famous pirate Gavin Breakbone as his spymaster. As Breakbone became more violent and bloodthirsty, however, Marcus turned on his master and let the authorities catch and hang the villain.
Opphs, sorry I mis-remembered "no ability scores above" to a score below.
So, with that said...first set.
Bitter Ashes is a Fallen Paladin, no sooner was he awarded his glory than a witch, who was obsessed with tempting newly anointed paladins, posing as the woman he adored, seduced him and infecting him with the taint of evil. No matter she bewitched him, he fell, hard.
Adopting the name Bitter Ashes to remind him the world needed to taste failure as well, he set out to bring the high and proud down; though he worked mainly in secret, posing as a barbarian sell-sword - until the opportune moment comes to strike. When with the down-trodden and small people, Bitter Ashes is a capable, if acerbic and brutal, companion to have at their side. He will not play folk false, unless they are the target of his hatred, then the gloves come off as it were. He is not stupid and will not leave things to chance, at least anymore than in unavoidable: He is not a slavering madman, he is cunning, sly, underhanded, viscous in a fight, a bit of a egoist and holds to his word - when he gives it.
