(You are in area 25. The lower cavern, you went into that hole and now came back again. The eastern part of the big glittering cave is still unexplored, as well as west side of the cave complex but it is difficult to get there)
The area to the west (might be small - might be not) is really hard to reach (fast river and very slippery shores). In the main cave - yes, stairs down, plus some platform and a passage leading off it to the north.
First, the group had traverse that treacherous slippery river-bank again. Prepared to the troubles you managed to do so skilfully enough to reach the Glittering Cave in one piece and travelled to the far most east end of it. There, cut into the cavern wall you found a small but strong-looking door of iron plates, about five feet tall and four feet wide. Heavy rivets stud its surface, and a tarnished silver rune — Durgeddin’s smith-mark, the mark of the dwarf whose secrets (and weapons) you came to find here — gleams on the door’s rusted face.
The door looks very sturdy and as unbreakable as the one in the prison cell. There is an internal lock, though.
Ramious looks back to Leon and Alyssa, as Bernard pulls out the key. "Taking bets. I'm offering 2:1 odds for a key match. 5 gold minimum bet but since we're all rich now, I'd be willing to go higher, bets bets, taking bets. Good odds people, good odds...place your bets now..."

Whether someone was ready to take the bet or not, Ramious did not learn, because the key, found on a dead dwarf in the prison, indeed fit.
In the corridor behind the iron door, a flight of steep stone stairs climbs 30 feet northward. The stairs end at the entrance to an octagonal chamber. The floor is inlaid with cracked, dusty blue tiles, and the walls are dressed with polished marble. Large doors of iron-bound oak exit to the northwest and northeast.
Three cast bronze statues, almost ten feet tall, stand by the west, north, and east walls. Each depicts an armed dwarf. The eastern and western ones carry axes and shields. The center statue is armed with two axes. The ceiling rises in a dome almost thirty feet above the floor.
From somewhere in the distance, you can hear the faint ringing of hammer on anvil. The sound of the hammering seems to come from beyond the east wall.
"Seems we found the dwarf's hold..." Leon says with admiration as he looks around. He glances to Ramious. "What is your bet that those statues are guardians?"
"Bet? Nah, that's a dam certainty. Its either going to come alive or belt out gas or such like the other one." Bernard says. He takes a deep breath and says, "back me up here."
Bernard will walk only to the center and use the dodge action.
Alyssa would be guilty of chuckling when Ramious would rhyme off taking bets. She was about to pipe up when Bernard opened the door with the key. The archaeologists eyes would beam with excitement as it opened up into an octagonal chamber. She’d be taking a couple steps, about to dart past the others pulling out her notes to start documenting when Leon would wager another bet, but about guardians. The wizard would practically trip over herself as she’d stop in her tracks.
Interestingly enough, the cunning and wicked creators of that - no doubts! - true dwarven fortress completely subverted groups expectations: while Bernard was marching to the center of the room, and during all that time he was standing there, not a single statue moved a muscle (or whatever they were supposed to move).
"Surprising..." Leon says, moving to join his companion. "The guardians probably are only triggered when you open a door or something..." He would take time to cast detect magic as a ritual, then move around the chamber.

Ramious frowns as Leon and Bugs move into the room, "Well....look at me, nervous as a twittering child. He walks into the room, glancing about carefully at the floor an examining all three statues closely.
While Leon was concentrating on the spell, Ramious' investigation brought him to conclusion, that indeed, statues have movable parts - hands, holding surprisingly sharp axes, and there are some regular marks on the floor too. He could not bind it together with the surrounding, but it is clear, there is some kind of trap around.
Ramious shares his discovery. He attempts to wrest the axe from the statue. "Lets see if we might disarm..." *grunt* "..this..." *grunt* "....trap." *grunt*

The fact that Ramious was not able wrestle the axes out of the statue's hands was not surprising - dwarves clearly knew how to build, what was surprising, all that commotion still did not activate any trap!
(Ritual is supposed to take 10 minutes - enough to get incinerated with other experiments, I was curious if Alyssa and Bernard are doing something with the chamber)
With now magical senses fully activated Leon looked around again, but saw nothing unusual - no auras around any statue, or on the doors. If there are traps here - they are purely mechanical.

Alyssa would tip toe into the room and take her turn to investigate the room for any traps or secret doors. Since Ramious was wrestling with a statue and Leon detecting magic, she felt a little more certain nothing was going to suddenly spring to life on them. With her experience and knowledge in her field, she’d dip into that again, keeping it in mind while she scoped the walls, floors and statues.
