(I'm not sure if there's a word limit on message? Reading it doesn't say there is, but I might be missing something.)
Ronis shifts slightly as he recieves the message, mulling it over as Finnegan talks, before turning away and pretending to look around the room as he replies.. "I'll take all the help we can get if they're trustworthy. As far as that goes, well, I'm not the best judge of character. The cult seems quiet enough for now, and with what little leads we have, it might be worth doing this guy's quest and getting them on side first? He seems pretty convinced of his own importance though, not sure he'll help even then."
Turning around again, Ronis takes a second to work back over what Finnegan said. "I'd ask how you know about the conflict, because that's not exaclty common knowledge, but what do you mean your discovery is central to it? For something that important, I'd think we'd rather hear about it now before we promise anything."

Message doesn't permit a reply. Ronis would have to cast it to reply.
Ronis and Dog:
"Who are you?" says Finnegan with a scowl. He immediately waves away his own question. "No matter. There are 40 gods, each with their own angels, demons, and followers. You could never keep a lid on that. And I am in the know because I may be the only mage alive that can help make the proposed plan happen. Because the gods need 2 more celestial domains for the proposed plan to work and they cannot do that without me. That's all you get, though. If I overstep my bounds, everything comes crashing down. But know that we are on the same side here. You are negotiating for a peaceful solution causing the rift in the gods. I have a stake in that peaceful solution now too."
Message allows a reply from my read of it: “You point your finger toward a creature within range and whisper a message. The target (and only the target) hears the message and can reply in a whisper that only you can hear.”

Oh, you're right. I scanned right past that. Carry on!
“I think this ‘Madame Road’ person is a mage of some sort. She spoke about using a Zone of Truth. She moves in circles with barristers. I expect her to be someone we should approach soon.”
Ronis similarly shrugs. "Your call on this, Dog. Our current 'interest' may very well be quiet for now. Perhaps if our absence is made known it could be a problem, but this sounds important to the grander scheme of things, despite the lack of information. Again. Seems to be a running theme, we should really find a diviner or something. I'm happy to help at least, probably wont take too long. We can get people to look into things while we're out."
"Well, nothing will be done about it tonight," Finnegan says, settling himself into his chair. "I'm pleased to hear you may be interested. Send a messenger in the morning if you agree to it. We will leave at 10 bells if you decide to help."
He waves his hand dismissively and lowers his reading glasses to the tip of his nose. Finnegan is instantly immersed in a scroll, forgetting about his visitors. The tabaxi hops down from the window ledge and gestures politely towards the door with a delicate bow of her head and a sweeping hand. She escorts the pair as far as the tower stairs, after which Dog and Ronis descend unaccompanied.
Each exchanges a few thoughts about how to proceed but they are ion thoughtful silence when a mage approaches them, her hood raised. She places a hand gently on Dog's upper arm in order to gain his attention and slow his pace.
"Finnegan claims that which is not yet his," the woman says in a hiss. "You must not let him attend the meeting. Or at least invite his equal so as to ensure fairness."
Dog pulls up short and looks intently at the mage. "Who is his equal? You seem to know what he purports to be. What is that exactly?"
Dog and Ronis:
"The Red Scourge," says the mage, her eyes darting briefly to Ronis. "Xa'lawea. She is his equal. No, his better. If Finnegan wants a seat at the table, so does Xa'lawea."
"Zendy!" says another woman at the door to one of the classrooms.
"Shit," the mage says. "Just be fair. That is all we ask."
The woman, Zendy, apparently, darts away, joining her friend in the classroom as the instructor strikes a bell on his desk. The door closes behind them.
The next morning:
Ronis, Dog, Tock, and Martin gather again at the palace to share their findings. In summary:
- The house Martin was watching is occupied by Road, who is listed as an "Archmage" for her occupation.
- The halfling, Jola, is listed as having the occupation of "Assistant". His address is "in transition" but an older address is available.
- Martin discovered that Road is a mage and is connected to a barrister for reason or another.
- Dog and Ronis met with Finnegan, who desires their help in protecting a dig site from a goliath tribe. The site is probably an old laboratory of a mage from the long-remembered Mage Wars.
- Finnegan also wants to come to the next meeting of celestials, for some reason. He claims to be pivotal in helping the gods reorganize the heavens.
- Dog and Ronis were confronted by a student at the mage academy as they were leaving. She told them that Finnegan is not the gods' only option. Xa'lawea, the Red Scourge, is also a possibility and that, for fairness, both should be invited or both should be excluded.
Dog tries to wrack his memory for any information about the Red Scourge or Xa'lawea or Kalazath, and asks the others if they've heard of her.
He notes that the mage said "In fact, it is my discovery of Kalazath's laboratory in the buried ruins of the Mage Wars that will be crucial to the whole plan." The compromise.
"He's a grump, and can be annoying, but I've never seen him to be malicious or misguided, so I am leaning toward helping him. Learning what we can. Because we're still scheduling this meeting, and we don't really know what's going on. What do you all think?"Dog says over breakfast. It's amazing how many omelets and bacon and one goliath can put down.
"Well, I'm still kind of spinning on the whole 'confronted by someone who wanted us to invite one of the kingdom's most dangerous threats to a dinner party' thing. I really feel like we should've asked more questions about that at the time. Maybe we should go look for her." Ronis chars some bacon until it's at just the right crispiness for his tastes. "I do think we should help him, just to see if it really is that important. We can decide whether he'll actually get a spot later. Don't really know what to do about this 'Road' person. If she's an archmage, well, that could be more than a little tricky."
Haleek arrives exactly an hour into the meeting, as scheduled, to provide an update on the progress towards the next gathering of the High Court.
"We have heard from all but three of the Heavens and Hells," he says. "It looks like we are narrowing in on it being in 4 days. We are getting the least resistance to that day from those that want it as soon as possible and those that want more time.
"As for the performance piece of the puzzle, we have several options. We can call on the performers at the Cannelloa Theatre, currently performing the opera, Priodas o Bobl, about the romance between a fisherman's widow and a merman. They do not perform that night, so there should be no trouble booking them. It would need to be in the Cannelloa Theatre, however, right here in the city.
"Another idea is to hire a traveling bard troupe. The Bard's College has several suggestions as do some of the nobility that patronize them. They typically set up on the outskirts of the city near the King's Road but we also have space here in the royal gardens for them to perform.
"We had an unusual suggestion from Master Gregory's friend, Master Scett Menroe. He informed us that Galadra and Everlilly, the sprites who have taken up residence with Master Gregory, can arrange a performance by the fey. I am told they are not especially trained for this, so the performance would likely be somewhat...er...wild...but it has the benefit of being held in the forests outside of the city.
"Finally, despite our efforts to keep quiet about our goals, word has gotten out that we are looking for entertainers. We have received numerous solicitations from the nobility to perform in the hopes they may be able to attend such an exclusive event. A number of these are quite accomplished poets, actors, singers, and instrumentalists. We could easily put together a showcase of the talents of the nobility that would not be embarrassing to the crown. We would have the added benefit of being able to hold the performance anywhere in Alcion."
Tock says, "The less possibility of collateral damage the better. Last time didn't go off exactly as planned and I'd rather be outside the city in case any of the arguments turn violent. My vote is for the fey."
Dog votes for either the Fey, for the reasons Tock outlined, or a bard troupe. “Having it away from the center of the city is important, true. Perhaps a bars troupe might help avoid the wildness factor brought by whatever odd intentions the Feywild might have for this gathering. And we could likely find a place more in the woods to gather with the troupe too. But I’d also be fine with the Fey. Excitement and wild cards might actually be what we need. As far as this possible trip to the ruin with Fergus, who is in? No pressure for anyone who thinks it’s a bad idea.”
“Safer for whom? The queen and regent would need to leave the protection of the palace. And if word is getting out about this the way it is, then her mundane enemies will certainly attempt to take advantage. It’s... risky, but also an opportunity?”

Waiting on Dog and Ronis to reply. Martin and Tock are done with their activities. I can wrap it up if they have nothing else to do or say, though.
Dog and Ronis:
"That sounds promising. If you are to be a part of this, you'll need to confer with our other associates," Dog says, looking at Ronis and shrugging.
"So you have no item from near the ruin, but how close can you get us via teleportation? We may not have much time before the meeting."
Dog and Ronis:
"Yes, yes," Finnegan says excitedly. "Gather everyone you can. I can get us to within a day's ride of the location."

It's amazing how many omelets and bacon and one goliath can put down.
Dog knows the Red Scourge, AKA Xa'lawea, as the ancient red dragon that is worshipped by the cult that kidnapped Ronis.
"Well, I'm still kind of spinning on the whole 'confronted by someone who wanted us to invite one of the kingdom's most dangerous threats to a dinner party' thing. Dog agrees that they should have tried to ask more questions of the mage before they departed.
