Surprised and bemused, Onyx didn't struggle against his companion.
"No, it's me, Grahl," he said, trying to quickly figure out how to convince him that he wasn't an illusion. An idea struck him.
"Sorry I disappeared, but I needed to go somewhere. Now that I did... I have illusion magic, too! And I'll fight their illusions..."
He snapped his fingers, and a 5x5-foot diaroma of miniature figures, himself and Grahl sharing a hug, appeared in mid-air floating next to them.
"...with our own illusions!"
He stared Grahl right in the eye, trying his best to exude earnestness.
"See? Now, WE have the same edge! We can make them think there's danger..."
With another finger snap, the floating diaroma disappeared, and instead, a fake bottomless pit, roughly 5 foot in diameter, appeared next to Grahl.
"...or a target..."
Snap! The pit disappeared, and a small, motionless doe-eyed gnome child huddled on the ground appeared on Grahl's other side.
"...or anything else we need to fight them!"
Snap! The illusory child disappeared, and this time, a voice called out to Grahl from behind. It was Onyx's voice!
"Now WE have the illusions, Grahl! You keep fighting them with your blade--I'll snooker them into running toward it, ok?"
For a brief second, Onyx began to wonder if this would actually work, but he simply smiled even wider, quickly dismissing the thought. Speaking now through his own lips, he concluded, "So, how does that sound? Ready to get these monsters with their own tricks, yeah?"
Chazrael can see the bottom at the direct cliff's edge before the fog. Its about a 12 foot drop, not really a death sentence but, definitely inconvenient.
Grahl looks with confusion as Onyx shows him images of himself and Onyx hugging. Bwah Grahl not hug human!
As the child apears behind him Grahl steps back and turns halfway to swing his axe at it but it disappears and the blade hits the ground instead. Grrn Grahl steps back not sure what to make of all this. Letting go of his hold. Stop!
He looks around trying to make sense of it all.
Perhaps human is not demon. Demon would make more sense.
"So, how does that sound? Ready to get these monsters with their own tricks, yeah?"
Grahl always ready. Grahl be watching human.
He will keeps his eyes on him for now not fully thrusting him.
"Well, that can work... for now, at least," thought Onyx as he tried to hide his sense of relief behind his smile. He'd have to keep his eye on Grahl; he didn't realize the half-orc would be so easily put on edge.
Turning to view the cliff, he frowned. The entire room looked like a giant trap to him.
Arbon looks up at the enormousness of the figure and sees the eyes of the beast are blackened. Its large, powerful chest seems to be carved in the act of inhaling, its lungs shown to be full of air, and its face looked as though it was getting ready to rapidly expel such air in strenuous effort. Its large horns point to the sky, and its back legs appear to be almost leaping.
(The stag human it looks like its in pain and like it was trying to run)
Onyx decided to try to examine the statues as well, but then remembered. Placing a hand to his chest, he recited one of the spells he'd just read. There wasn't much of a visual sign, other than a few glowing motes of white light that swirled about... but it was clear he'd used his new magic.
Getting as close as he dared to the pit, the warlock looked over the four statues and tried his best to discern what warnings or meanings, if any, they held.
(( Investigation Check:20 ))
"Anyone else want to give these a look-over?" he asked, readying himself to assist anyone who didn't protest. "Or, I could try to summon my familiar to walk down this obviously-not-trapped narrow pathway."
(( Onyx will cast Guidance on anyone who wants his assistance in performing a check. Just ask for a laying on of hands, and add 1d4 to your roll. ))
"They're very life-like," Arbon says as he reaches out to touch the stag in front of him, "It is strange that they all differ though. I'm no decorator, but statues usually all resemble one another. Perhaps it means something?" He stands thinking for a moment before shrugging and making his way to the path across the expanse. "Shall we move on?" he says as he takes the first step out onto the path.
Onyx's investigation: The statues appear to be decor. Perhaps there is some unseen significance...
...The fog looms just below the cliffs edge...
Arbon takes a single step onto the bridge path, he finds it sturdy, but very narrow. Repeating the step, a little harder this time, the bridge proves to be solid.
Arbon, finding his first steps on solid ground, carefully and slowly continues across the way. Watching ahead for anything that may appear near the far statues (Perception: 13).
Chazrael swiftly crosses, expertly shaking off said jitters and bounding across the straight.
Grahl, perhaps too eager to continue the slaying and emboldened by the others fast crossing, rushed onto the bridge. When the same mighty doubt hitting him, he freezes halfway over the gorge. Trying to catch himself, he does pause but the rage builds up at this frustratingly simply, yet stressful, exercise. He takes one more step, then slips.
Grahl falls screaming into the fog, but the sound mutes as soon as the last tip of the toe in his boot fell through the cover.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
"Grahl!" yelled Onyx.
The warlock tried to think quickly. The fog appeared to be magical, since it was muting sounds. Which meant it might also be toxic, or cause sleep, or any number of other things. He winced as he concluded that jumping down after his companion would be unwise.
Setting down his backpack, he pulled out the remainder of his rope (probably 40 feet or so,) then slipped his backpack back on as he dropped to his hands and knees and crawled across to the middle of the bridge. He didn't know if it was a gust of wind or what, but figured whatever caused Grahl to fall would be less likely to affect someone low to the ground.
With one end of the rope wrapped a couple times around his hand, Onyx flung the other end into the fog, near where he thought Grahl had fallen. "Grahl! Grab the rope!" He couldn't hear Grahl, but maybe, just maybe, Grahl could still hear them. Desperately, he waved the rope as far as he could in each direction, trying to see if he would at least hit his companion.

(Make a dex roll\save whichever is higher, with advantage. You're just catching yourself, call it the jitters.)
