Mirica reacts mere moments after the coals hit the ground.....her cloak whipping off her back as she leaps on the oil covered ground around the coals. There's a momentary flare of heat on her hands through her cloak....but then its gone and the fire is out.
Meanwhile, Jezun runs up the stairs in a blur, his movement having such alacrity its nearly impossible to tell which steps he touched or if he touched them at all. Upstairs Jezun comes rushing into the living room. The door is indeed open, and there's the .... kid .... out on the street, with is back to Jezun and fleeing. But also, lounging around the living room are about fifteen people. Rough....weathered....hairy people, especially her. They each have a variety of weapons near them. It seems they were playing a game of cards, which has paused in mid card flip, their mouths open and staring at Jezun. The moment is frozen there in time, fifteen sets of eyes staring at Jezun....Jezun staring back. Then all hell broke loose.
Jezun, you can redirect your hold person to one of these people, or still target the kid out on the street, plus you can use up the rest of your movement anyway you want. These guys all join initiative at this point, if they go at 18 or higher their action is lost this round.

He'll also, if you'll allow, try to use his staff with an action surge now that he sees the group. If he's now 60 feet away from where the group is, he'll use the Thunderclap property:
Thunderclap. You can use an action to cause the staff to issue a deafening thunderclap, audible out to 600 feet. Each creature within 60 feet of you (not including you) must make a DC 17 Constitution saving throw. On a failed save, a creature takes 2d6 thunder damage and becomes deafened for 1 minute. On a successful save, a creature takes half damage and isn't deafened.
(He doesn't want to deafen Toc and the party, so he won't do this if it seems like the thunderclap would reach where the group is right now in the basement -- based on how well he's gotten to know the staff's properties.)
If he does not use the staff to do this, he'll pause, look at the group, ensure that his cloak of displacement is on securely, and prepare for a bunch of people to try to hit him.

Kid save: 8. Out in the street, the kid freezes.
Then Jezun turns to the fifteen thugs, "I love cards! Can I play?"
Chen, Toc, you hear Jezun talking upstairs, and some sounds of sudden motion and bangs and thuds as it sounds like a brawl breaks out.
Jezun, five of the thugs leap off their butts and rush you. The first swings a bat at you twice. Attack: 22 Damage: 6. Attack: 23 Damage: 5.

The last one jumps up and with a mace in his hands. Attack: 16 Damage: 5 Attack: 11 Damage: 3
Toc looks up the stairs and raises an eyebrow, then glances over at Mirica who is on the floor laying on her oil soaked cloak, "Thanks, I owe you a house!" His rapier whips from his sheaths as he rushes up the stairs in a dash.
Jezun, you see Toc reach the top of the stairs and look around..."Jeeez....I did not invite any of you into my home." He rushes up to one fighting Jezun and stabs him. Attack: 22 Damage: 15 Attack: 30 Damage: 13

"Don't mention it," murmured Mirica also listening the sound of commotion upstairs and in the same time deciding what to do with the cloak. At the end she just left it on the floor. She cleared from the stairs to let others get through, checked for the flames once again and was ready to follow.
The golden half dragon is right on Toc's heels as he rushes up the stairs. Looking around at the very crowded room and press of people, he sees a good swath of them he can breath on. A blast of fire erupts from his mouth. 1913315866. The men and women all shriek in pain as the fire rolls across them. The wall behind them that contained a patterned carpet hung from the wall lights up, and the couch they were sitting on bursts into flames. The table does as well. Toc looks to the golden dragon and shouts obscenities in elven involving Chen's upbringing and several aspects of his personality.
Five more of the thugs rush into combat towards the half-dragon, swinging a variety of random weapons, hard, spiked, and sharp things swinging at Chen like a fog.

Fianna, Jahren, your actions....you hear a battle royale occurring on the floor above and hear the crackle of flames.
Fianna reaches the top of the stairs and thinks, simply, No.
No, they do not get to kidnap Lacy.
No, they do not get to invade the sanctity of Toc's house.
No, they do not get to lay in wait and attack us.
No, they do not get to hate us simply for our birth.
No, they do not get to sell us to a dragon for the dream of safety...
No... They do not get to do those things and live.
FinFin takes flight out the door and high into the air. They know their job, keep an eye on the child and stay out of sight.
For her part, Fianna also knew her job...Quick calculations when through her head, her hand dipped into a special pouch at her waist and gripped the crushed black powder that was once a very precious pearl. "tá do chuid ama tagtha ... beannú an bháis."
The sphere was centered below the floor. There was no need to get what could be "innocent" bystanders outside involved. The sphere was high enough, though, to envelope the entirety of the room in which this dozen or so meant waited to greet them such.
The spell is misnamed, Fianna speculated even as it took effect. It's more of a Sphere of Death than a Circle.
Circle of Death A sphere of negative energy ripples out in a 60-foot-radius sphere from a point within range. Each creature in that area must make a Constitution saving throw. A target takes 22 necrotic damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one. The bright flames across the room lick across the bodies, and flutter along the walls....then a moment later Fianna and Jahren appear at the top of the stairs. A darkness seems to encompass the room as they Fey creature glares at the ruckus melee going in the confined space...bodies everywhere, weapons swinging in each direction. The darkness seems to suddenly intensify as her displeasure is like a force of nature, filling the space with small black spots that crackle with dark energy...the zap out and strike everyone in the whole space, sapping life energy from everywhere. The thug Toc had stabbed collapses in a heap...while three more of the burning thugs also collapse, dark veins shooting through their skin, their eyes rolling up as they exhale a dark breath of death. Toc winces, as do Jezun, Jahren, and Chen as the oppressive Fey energy shoots through their bodies.
Jahren, letting out a bit of a wince, then speaks, magic weaving into his voice and addresses both the boy, and the remaining eleven standing thugs...like a irresistible force of nature commanding them to his will. Jezun and Toc both stand back out of their combat poses as the eleven men all simultaneously drop their weapons. They quickly begin trying to pat down the fire in the place...using blankets, jackets, or whatever they have to spare. It's difficult to tell if the kid is under Jahren's sway since he's still out in the street...frozen by Jezun's influence.
Moments later the fire is all extinguished and the men all take a seat...joined a few moments later by the grubby street kid who sits down on the floor. The walls are blackened, the hung carpet is ruined, and the table is charred, smoke hangs in the air like a fog, slowly drifting out the open door and thinning. It smells of ash and fresh fire.
Mirica comes up the stairs during all of this, her cloak soaked with oil....and looks around at the dozen strangers sitting patiently on couches, floors, and counters, all looking hairy, dirty, with soot on their faces and on their hands....waiting quietly to have a polite conversation with Jahren.
"We're keeping them alive why?" Fianna asks, curious. "At most we need one of them... for a short time."
Not needed to follow the child, FinFin instead circles the estate and tries to see if anybody seems to have been watching it from the outside and how they're reacting to what occurred.
"Whatever we are doing with them, let's get it done and move out. The house is compromised and there's no telling when more goons will show up or if there was also goons outside already signaled by the child when he ran outside..." Fianna says this while searching the bodies of the dead. Valuables are also nice, magical items even more so, but she is mainly looking for anything that would suggest who hired these goons, where they got their orders, where they congregated or any such intelligence...
Chen is a little surprised by the sudden demise of his opponents, but lifts his hammer and searches around for a new target. Then when he hears Jahren's command, even though he isn't being magically compelled to obey, the bard's familiar voice and reasonable suggestion seems to be sufficient to break Chen out of his battle fury. He lowers his hammer and helps extinguish the fire, apologising to Toc and mumbling some comments about the wisdom of hanging flammable objects on the walls of one's house.

"We do not know which one can offer a full explanation?" For some reason Mirica did not leave ruined cloak downstairs so she put it on the first free surface here, while answering Fianna's question. She did not interfere with Jahren's questioning otherwise, just moved closer to the door (in case of unexpected guests) and prepared to listen the interrogation.
One of the men with a pointed nose, a hawkish look and greasy short hair raises his hand, "You know we are right here and can hear you....right?" He seems to direct this at Fianna. A well built woman with an overly tight leather corset squeezing her ample mid section and breasts amidst taut leather straps clears her throat and then says, "I can offer a full explanation if it increases my chances of getting out of here....though the only reason I'm talking right now is cause that one said my day would be more pleasant if I did...." "Ignore me. I'm just the bad cop. You want to listen and talk to and help the sweet talking dude over there," Fianna nods to Jahren "Help him in any way you can... 'Cause they all don't ever really let me have my way. Not unless they don't get the cooperation they need. Then they let me have some fun so as to convince the survivors to reconsider...."
Jahren flips a gold from the top of his thumb to the well built woman. "That's the spirit. I'd like to think we can find a more productive way to spend our day than more killing. Go on..." Jahren lets her tell her tail without mentioning Lacy, encouraging others to chime in. He hopes to get info out of the boy as well, including who is hiring these children. Only if no one brings up Lacy in any way does he offer more specifics to try to find out where she might be. Also, he tries not to make promises he can't keep since the group may still need to dispatch some or all of these threats, but does subtly try to pit them against one other with hints that the most helpful one or two people are most likely to walk away from this. If Jahren can get more intel on people who run the shady side of the trade guilds or even on the larger hunt for the party and handoff to the dragon he will, but he doesn't expect these thugs to know too much of the larger picture.
Jezun's eyes are wide as the fire, fey energy, and beguiling words of the party bard roll through Toc's room like an inferno-cum-tidal-wave-cum-televangelist. If Jezun took notes, he would be furiously scribbling. He's pretty sure that SinSin had no idea what he was talking about when he suggested Jezun for his replacement. He's also increasingly convinced that these people, while incredibly powerful, really need his help.
He walks lightly over some smoking carpeting and picks up a charred half of a playing card. He flicks it up between pointer and middle and then flicks it gently in an arc where it settles in the corset of the woman who spoke second.
"What game were you playing?" he asks gently, unaware of any double entendre. "Did you know you were playing it, and did you know everyone at the table? This could have been very very bad. Instead, it has a chance to be only very bad, which is good."

The woman speaks first, "I mean, the guy who sent us here to rough you up and take you to him was named Lenson. We do our business at the bent coin, but I was supposed to deliver you to a warehouse on Worcherster Lane, right by the intersection of Rugford Avenue...uh..27 Worcherster Lane."
The man with greasy short black hair, "Well, I mean I was hired by my guy Nails. He told me there would be some other folk here...but ya, same place 27 Worcherster Lane after we kicked the crap out of you."
A stout man with a fierce scar across his throat and a thick brown beard mutters, "We was playin Arsehole....but...I'm not sure if yer talkin bout the card game....ya sound a bit confused."
The woman pulls the half-burnt card out of her bust and looks at it, then at Jezun, and grins a crooked grin, tossing the card on the floor.
Jahren does a bit more questioning. It would see that these 15 were hired earlier today by three different contacts, at three different bars. Orders were to break into the house, and sit and wait for your arrival. The kid was supposed to watch the basement and toss the stuff to burn the house down when you arrived. The thugs were told to subdue the lot of you and take you to Worcherster Lane. One of the thugs produces a paper that had a grid of faces on it, that show the entire group sketched out in pretty good detail. At the bottom it says "WARRANT FOR ARREST. WANTED FOR CRIMES AGAINST THE STATE".
"Yous wanted folk round here. Rewards is hundreds of gold...each."
FinFin flies around outside. 12. The small dragon spots several curtains open and close immediately after the yelling and screaming from the battle. One person walking away casually on the street looked back but then just kept going. It is night out, just after midnight. The dragon also spots a dark shadow on a rooftop halfway down the block. The shadow begins to skulk away, but before FinFin can get much of a warning to her master back, the form vanishes in a puff of magic.
Another front door opens, and a man comes out, jacket pulled over him tightly, and starts walking hurriedly away down the street to the east, glancing back at the house a couple times as he goes.
