During the whole explanation of the ‘plan’ Russel looks like a spectator at a tennis match. Constantly pivoting his head towards whomever was speaking at the moment. When asked by Fianna to protect the dinghy he nods vigorously and mimics her voice “Protect the dinghy” and gives a little two “fingered” salute.
“Are we able to have the telepathic link up? Or I’d that too much to focus on,” Fianna asks. “My only concern with the whale not being transport is if the ships get a lucky shot with their weapons and take down the other... but if we still have easy communication, we could work with that...”
((assuming Tessa allows us a dinghy, and it fits us all and a ship volunteer or two...))
The Couatl was a truly divine being with the serene manners and the patience of a god. ""They" understand and can speak many languages". The same phrase was repeated telepathically. "I will assist you in protecting that vessel from assaulting ships. What being would you like me to shape into?"
After careful consideration, the huge Killer Whale settled near the ship ready to accept passengers.
Chen jumps out of the ship and stands on the water's surface ready to be transformed. I know not all that may be coming, but be it what it will, I'll go to it laughing, he says.
(I hope the ring of water walking doesn't work while Chen is polymorphed)
Everyone judges that the other ships are gaining about 100 feet per minute.....which means they'll be on you in about 20 minutes....leaving enough time to cast the ritual so you can all mentally speak if you choose (though also meaning they'll have closed to within 1000 feet. Your choice.), which you do, so the ships are only 1000 feet behind you. In the meantime, Tessa has some men lower the dingy, though she doesn't really understand why. It's in the water a few minutes later, dragged through the wake of the ship.
The crew's attention is suddenly drawn from trying to eek every ounce of power out of the wind, to the deck, as their passengers, begin doing some rather fantastic things. The first is the appearance of a giant flying snake, with feathery wings...that can talk! An angelic being that gives off a sense of wisdom and calm. Many men make religion hand motions and open mouths and wide eyes litter the faces on the ship.
And then Chen grabs onto some rigging hanging on the side of the ship...climbs down over the rushing water, and then leaps off the side of the ship which is going about 15 mph, he lands on the waving ground with a stumble but catches himself and begins running along side the ship so he doesn't get left behind....until a moment later when Fianna Nuzej steps to the edge, and with quick efficient motions releases a blast of magic, and the golden dragon born shimmers into the shape of a giant whale!!! Men and women sailors shout in surprise. A moment later, the flying snake dives down off the other side, turning into a smaller but sharply contrasting black and white form of a killer whale as it splashes into the water.
The sperm whale rises up next to the ship as it swims along, and the elven wizard holding a staff, surrounding in a small pile of yellow and brown leaves....casually releases a spell...and the whale....lifts from the water,....liquid pouring off its body as it rises up into the air next to the ship. The crew is dumbfounded and there are shouts and prayers and....even though they're not panicking, Captain Castle begins shouting at the men to "FOCUS" and "MAN YER POSTS!" and "STOP GAWKING AT THE FLYING WHALE!!!"
The rope to the dingy is grabbed by the killer whale, as those that wish to be aboard it, can be. Toc Tic has already moved to the dingy.
Mirica remains on board the ship.
-------------------
The two ships are traveling at about 15 knots, or 17mph. They are either 2000 feet, or 1000 feet apart. depending on if you took the time to be mentally connected. (please decide and let me know)
Your ship is moving at 130 feet / round.
The other ships are moving at 140 feet / round.
If you simply STOP moving...they will be approaching you at 140 feet per round. If you turn and move towards them, then of course they'll close even faster. Note, the whale is going to have to use his movement to go up...
((Nuzej polymorphs Chen - Fianna does not have that spell. And I think the angelic being is towing the dinghy. Otherwise nice :) Personally I say we attack, mind link or no... But I will leave that to the caster.))
Fianna climbs carefully into the dingy and finds herself a nice, secure sitting position. She then checks in with Fi'Finella who is still spying on the advancing ships, to get an update...
Mirica was torn on whether to go or to stay on the ship. She needed to maintain a concentration, had no means to travel far or fast and was certainly lacking of any means of mass (or individual for that matter) ship destruction. In the end she decided to trust in summoned Couatl, while she would stay and defend the ship in case someone manage to slip through. The only other thing she did was placing Death Ward on Chen - as taught as he was in whale's shape, 500ft jump is a 500ft jump.
Seems there was adequate demand for the telepathic bond, so Nuzej does cast it, so we're 1000 feet from them when the castings happen and the wizard moves to the dinghy. "Chen, let me know when you want to be you again, and I'll let you go. I assume once the whale's beaten up a lot, but if it's becoming a chore and you're stuck in shipwreck, I can drop concentration."
(Toc is here?)
He'll keep his eyes peeled for any water walking boarders, and ready his spells for when the ships draw nearer.
Fianna suggests WhaleChen flies above second or third closest pursuer, and crashed dow atop that one. This would leave less debris and swimming survivors for dinghy to have to go through. In that sense, may be wise to even rake out one of the last ones. Couatyl (I’ll probably never spell that right) should keep dinghy close but maybe a bit behind WhaleChen... We will be stopping and casting a bit of distance from closest pursuer...
Fianna a asks if the Couatyl can see in darkness. Magical darkness. “I can shroud us until we get close enough to attack, if so. But I don’t want to blind the one leading us...”
((Actually, would not debris be a good thing? Slowing down the ships behind? Also, waves from whale/ship crash could (if anyone willing to apply some physic here) potentially help to ram other ships into each other))
"I can see well through any darkness or disguise" Couatl did not even need a spell to talk telepathically and was obediently following Fianna's directions.
((We are on a much smaller boat do I assume debris would be more trouble for us, though we are not looking to necessarily go through it. But survivors clambering to us in masses could be trouble...))
Since our driver, Couatyl, can see, Fianna will cast Darkness on the front tip of the dinghy...
“Sorry all,” Fianna says to Nuzej, Russel and the volunteers (if we got them?) “But this way they’ll have trouble targeting us as we get within range. I’ll share as much as I can about what’s going on, and drop the darkness once we’re within range...”
Darkness envelopes the dingy. Tic mentally says, "I can not see. Please let me know if I should do something....such as flee, or teleport people to safety...."

Nuzej speaks through the link: "Yes, we are at a bit of a disadvantage if we cannot see anything. Chen, can you, as you learn on the fly how to fly as a cetacean, tell us what you're seeing? Or the rest of you on the ship, perhaps you can tell us what is coming up ahead of us?"

“Sound idea. Couatyl pulls the dingy...Tessa, we got the dinghy lowered and volunteers to man it yet?” Fianna shouts.
“Nuzej, should Chen be in the water? Or can you safely transform him as he gives off, without harming this ship?”
“Mirica, they cooperating and understand? Can you talk to them from afar? Did we ever get an answer on the mind link?”
As she’s barking out orders, suggestions and questions, Fianna can’t help but wonder what group of fools left her in charge...
