Jezun returns to the group, doing his best not to stumble or make any more noise. He whispers, "I must not be very good at sneaking in muck. What's the plan here? I can create a gust of wind which might be helpful if any of this muck becomes airborne. But are we sneaking, are we destroying, or are we hunting this rich goblin?"
"The rich goblin (the Gobich? the Richlin?) was our objective but the helping of the hapless halflings heightened our heroic habits leading us to hunt the harassers who now seem to have a hankering for having a harrowing husk. It's heartbreaking..." Fianna answered and then gives her head a shake.
"Basically, one thing has led to another. The most pressing thing at the moment is to track down the source of this blight or disease which seems to be affecting creatures and fauna alike. Then, if within our abilities, stop it. I mean we could ignore these mutated freaks but some things need to be stopped before they can get out of hand. Don't you think?"
Mirica raised a brow curious to hear more "h" words - she never knew there were so many. "Grinch?" It did not start with "h" but seemed appropriate. "Call them what you want but no, we are not ignoring those mutants." (That was said in tone "I am here to the end") "The question is - do we even need to investigate anything or just... "boom"?" She touched the necklace again, the presence of the thing felt comforting.
"If we destroy it from afar without knowing the truth of it... We may miss the actual cause. What if it's some crypt underneath that would just bubble up through some other source? What if there are innocent hostages inside? I am dearly tempted to bring down a Circle of Death upon the center of the thing and call it done but there is just so much uncertainty, is there not?"
"Highly doubt there is anyone still sane enough to rescure in there"(Mirica emphasized "highly") "but if there is, we need to get past those nine goblins. Quietly. Can you take them all out at once? Without the noise?"
Jezun looks back again. "Oh, I thought maybe they were connected. But that makes sense. That goop didn't seem like a good place to store treasure. Hmm. Is there a way to lure them out of that room, dispose of them quietly, and then explore more?"

"They could be connected but... Don't know. Everything could be connected, or none of it..." Fianna pondered.
"The chamber the goblins seem to be working in, it may not be the only enclave in here. The rock is huge, about three hundred feet across... I could target the chamber we've seen but there could be more... bigger... But," Fianna shrugs and looks around at the others. "If nobody objects..."
There is a pause, then Fianna starts looking around the area a bit, trying to decide upon her best vantage point for casting the spell. Finding what she feels to be the ideal spot from which to center her Circle of Death on the Grand Chamber that she spied through FinFin's eyes. Fianna reaches into a special pouch she has tied to her belt on the back, left hand side of her. She mentally measures out the right amount powder, the black sand like remains of precious pearls she ritually ground down for just this purpose. As she whispers a sacred prayer - an apology to the force connecting all living thing - she slowly rubs the powder between her palms, warming it up and allowing a bit of her own essence to weave itself amongst the grains, empowering the physical material with the spiritual. Fianna does a quick spin on a heal, the crushed black pearl filtering through her fingers and drawing out a fence circle around her... And with her hands flung out to her sides, the last grains of black pearl being scattered to an eldritch wind which has briefly puffed up out of nowhere, just strong enough to Todd her hair, ruffle her skirts and spirit away the black sands... The spell is cast.

If no movement is seen, FinFin will explore the chamber to give Fianna an up close and detailed sneak peek at the place. If there is movement, FinFin will give a squawk and fly back to Fianna. FinFin not trying to be particularly stealthy, if any survivors follow they'll be heading towards a pre-warned group...
The group, silently, moves into the green puddled ridden chamber. Nine dead goblins lay on the ground, their eyes blood red, their veins black in their flesh, having died horribly. The sound of more working and banging continues to come from the far side of the chamber around a large turn. The group sneaks forward and looks. There is a 10 foot ledge, where the ground had cracked and shifted, and above the ledge there is another section of this room. A muscular gnoll with a hammer is banging on some chain links off to one side, against an anvil...apparently linking two chains together, while a team of another dozen goblins or so are gathered around a pool of green sludge. Chains reach down from above, holding onto some creature that has been submerged into one of the green pools. Another goblin, this one appears to be weaving magic and casting a ritual spell over the vat. Off to one side, you see what looks like a gnoll and two goblins, twisted by the stuff, laying, unconscious. You see a large area set aside with sleeping mats, and a wood and paper divider that creates a private room off to one side with a desk filled with scattered papers, books, and scrolls, as well as a quill and ink.

The gnoll and the goblin laying off to one side begin squirming, kicking their legs and thrashing their arms...and then promptly both explode. The creature within the pool also beings thrashing about, sending green ick everywhere, the goblins nearby being splashed as they psychic energy strikes them. They collapse and then the thing in the pool explodes sending green goop everywhere along with a mix of body parts. The goblin mage staggers back, sprayed by goo, all across his face, and shrieks, as he clutches his head. Three blasts Fianna strike him as he stumbles about and he collapses in a heap. The gnoll working the chain falls face first into his work, unconscious.
The group looks around....aside from the sound of slime and body bits slowly sliding down the walls and landing with wet splooshes....the cave is suddenly quiet.
Toc stands up, and quickly clambers up the 10 foot gap and looks around. He glances back at the group and shrugs. "I was going to interrogate the mage's soul when he died, but....he's still alive....in case you want to interrogate him while he's still connected to his body. Otherwise..." he dangles a small gilded cage hooked to his hip on a chain and shrugs again. Then he moves towards the papers where he begins stacking them up, while quickly scanning them.
The rest of the group looks around the room...Fianna's eyes briefly flash as she looks for magic. The green stuff doesn't seem magical exactly, though...it's clearly not normal. The goblin mage has a necklace on that is magic, pulsing with moderate abjuration magic. Otherwise she notes several magical auras over in the wagons. Once there she begins looking through the half-loaded carts. There is a chest full of a mix of coins, (118 platinum, 620 gold, 1252 silver, and 2040 copper), along with a mixture of jewelry of various quality and make worth a combined 1242 gold. There are a few precious stones mixed into the coins worth a combined 765 gold. She also finds a few bolts of cloth, some small kegs of pickled fish, a couple large kegs of beer, several rods of unworked iron (worth 400 gold). Finally there are a few magical items (which you eventually identify).
1. There is a finely made silver dagger. Whoever holds it can use an action to tell which way is north. (does not require attunement)
2. There is a silver mirror...it never gets dirty.(does not require attunement)
3. There's a steel ring. It's wearer can speak and read Netherese. (does not require attunement)
4. A long sword +1 that is unbreakable. The bearer suffers no harm in temperatures as cold as −20 degrees Fahrenheit or as warm as 120 degrees Fahrenheit. It also whispers warnings to the bearer offering +2 to initiative. (requires attunement)
9. A leather bracelet with a small feather hanging from it that is a Charm of Feather Falling. (once used 3 times, it is no longer magical) (does not require attunement)
Toc looks back at the party as he reads, "There's an inventory of goods here to be sent to Verdant Cloud. It seems to list out everything in those two wagons...."
Also a closer inspection of the mage, and it seems under his robe, he's wrapped in a long piece of fabric rather than undergarments. The fabric has magical symbols all through it. You figure this 'wrap' makes up his spell book.
Jezun says, "do we want to speak to any of them? I can... freeze the air around them(hold person) and keep them still while we take out everyone else, if you'd like."
He will try to sneak forward and get within 60 feet of the gnoll at least, and prepare to use his hold person elemental feature to freeze anyone the party wishes, and then dart forward to finish off anyone not dropped by the arcane onslaught.

Mirica moves towards the only creature alive. The wrapped magician goblin is not malformed though as Mirica gets closer she can see green mucous around his mouth and nose...so clearly living inside this cave has not been great for his body. His breath is shallow, his wounds mostly internal, though Fianna's blasts did break a rib. He's splattered in the green stuff, and his skin turns red around each spot that has a glob of goo on it. She cleans him up a bit, and treats him, quickly mixing a paste for a head wrap. Fianna meanwhile disrobes him. After a few minutes of care, the now naked goblin comes conscious, though it's clear he's still stunned....his eyes are glassy and his looks about confused. Jezun hefts him up, holding his arms firmly behind him. The goblin's head bobs a bit as he tries to lift his eyes to look around and try to figure out what just happened. His eyes focus on Mirica, noticing the blurry shapes of others rooting around in his wagons of treasure. He tries to focus on them but is unable to. Then another figure steps in front of him....Jahren...a pleasant enough looking half-elf...seems like he could be the friendly type. The goblin looks up at him, waiting for Jahren to speak first....though his face screws up in confusion as Jezun offers life-affirming encouragement from behind while holding him tight. Absently the goblin wonders why his nether region feels so light and breezy.
Outside, FinFin whisks out of the cave and up into the tree tops. From the forest canopy, looking down, FinFin has a good view, and all is quiet for the moment.

Jahren seems distracted by something and so Fianna shrugs and just asks her questions.
She starts firing questions at the confused creature, "Who are you? Are you Gorig? If not where is he? If so, why is he sending stuff to the dragon? Who is in charge? etc Where is the hand off of stuff? Is the dragon there themselves or an intermediary?"
He looks up, glassy eyed, "I am Gorig. Wait..you are hunting me? No...I mean, that dead goblin there is Gorig." A slight twist of his wrist from Jezun results in a grunt and he sighs, "I am Gorig." He thinks through the other questions, and sighs heavily, shaking his head still trying to get his mind clear, "I am in charge here....but...Verdant Cloud...she tells us what to do...this is her domain, we thrive here because of her protection. Plus, she has an advisor who knows much about this place and has sent me magical knowledge about this material."
He sighs, thinking on the next question, "We have been tasked to drop the treasures at a cave. The dragon hasn't been there itself when we arrive, but other servants of it reside there...ettercaps and large spiders. I can draw you a map." (twist of the wrist and a grunt later) "...or show you where it is..."
Fianna continues with her questions, "What is the green goo? Where does it come from? What is he doing with it? Are there other sources of it?"
Gorig sighs, "They are called the weirding vats. They are an ancient and powerful alchemical material that was produced in the city of Shade. This fragment of the great Netherese city was where they were created and stored, though, the ability to make more was destroyed when this thing crashed here. There is only what there is. To your last question, there are many raiding parties....many will return here soon."
