"The stories they were telling about the knight from Cormyr were of particular interest to me. Did you hear what they were saying? He's rumored to have battled both a black and a green dragon. I've ... always been fascinated by dragons," he says, trying to sound earnest. "Some might say that I —" he turns his head and attempts to make eye contact with the woman, "worship them."
"I'm very happy for you," the woman says dryly, seemingly entirely uninterested by the statement. Then Rogram notices, almost imperceptibly, her eyes flicker toward one of the wagons the party has been following since Baldur's Gate - had he not drawn the association in advance, she may very well have pulled it off. "Sounds like you have issue with this Isteval guy. Why are you telling me?" she asks monotonously.
“Excuse me, is he bothering you Akira? Perhaps you should answer her question, what are you really looking for?”
Aldor, nearly red in the face, stammers a few words, unable to get out a full sentence. "A spellbook!" he finally shouts, then turning on his heel and storming away.
For Merric:
You are unable to discern whether Akira's nightmares have anything to do with the lingering effect of mushroom spores.
Akira sighs and turns to Merric, “Any read on that? This gentleman has been harassing me to sell my spell book for last few times we have encountered one another.”
Rogram takes a deep breath and stretches. He doesn't want to get his hopes up. He also doesn't want to spook the woman. What's the best thing to say? He has absolutely no idea. Dropping his arms, he leans a little closer to her, almost touching his shoulder to hers. "I just have a feeling you're interested in dragons yourself," he says fairly quietly. "And I thought we had that in common. And maybe you know of some others who might like dragons, too." He moves away and leans over to beat at his boot as if trying to remove some dirt or a bug or something, not looking at her, but trying to sense any reaction he might get.

Merric looks after the retreating form of Aldor. “Not sure. What would he want your spellbook for, can he even use it?” Merric plays Aldor’s reaction and the conversation over in his mind, trying to determine if the man is hiding anything.
Insight: 18.
.“On another note, I know nothing is helping your nightmares. I can only assume that the mushrooms have something to do with it. Perhaps we should find a healer in Daggerford.” He looks to Akira, sorry that he could not do more.
"I just have a feeling you're interested in dragons yourself," he says fairly quietly. "And I thought we had that in common. And maybe you know of some others who might like dragons, too."
The woman stares at Rogram, narrowing her eyes to stare intently into his. The look lasts for several moments before her eyes suddenly raise, seemingly startled. She wheels away and briskly walks in the opposite direction, saying nothing.
For Merric:
Aldor's insistence, and his exasperated reaction, indicate to you that the man is quite full of himself, and also not nearly as worldly as he believes himself to be. It does not seem obvious to you, however, what he may be hiding, if anything.
OOC: Giving some time for any further conversations to play out before advancing.
Rogram watches as the woman appears to run away from him. Was that a good thing? A bad thing? He turns to look over his shoulder. What scared her away?
Rogram shrugs to himself and decides he should fess up and tell the others what he's done. If he's learned anything on this trip, it's safety in numbers. He asks Merric and Akira to join him at Karib's wagon. "I've been trying to make contact with Cult members," he tells them all in a quiet tone. "My goal is to join the Cult so that I can find out where my Pa is being held captive." Ignoring any reactions the others might have to this, he continues, "I've mostly been talking to one individual I've identified as a member who isn't traveling with the Cult's wagons. Tonight ... " He makes a face, drops his eyes, and looks a little sheepish. "Tonight, I basically told her that I know she's a member and that I'm interested in joining." When one of the others asks how she responded, he says, "She looked mad, then surprised, then just walked away." He looks at the others, waiting to hear their points of view.
Akira offers to Merrick, “This Aldor character is a lawyer on route to see a client in Waterdeep who appears to be in trouble with the local authorities. Not sure how well versed you are with the networks in these spaces but it is always better to have two heads on a problem than one.
I will seek out a healer when we arrive. I will consult with Orvustia and Tyjit to see if they are aware of a healer within the ranks of the caravan.”

“I will keep an eye open for him, but I know little of these networks you describe. What would a lawyer do with a spellbook?” Merric turns toward Rogram as he shares his story and puts a sympathetic hand on his shoulder “You are not having much luck with women this trip, are you? But seriously, watch your back now that they know you are nosing around. I don’t want to dig you out of a hole in the road next.”
Akira shrugs with a concerned but resigned expression, “what lawyers do with many things - make them worse?”
Akira turns to Rogram, “That seems like a reaction I might not expect under the circumstances. Women are capable of a lot. I wonder what she yet has up her sleeve.”

The evening is quiet after the eventful conversations have concluded, and the caravan enjoys a peaceful night on the roadside, the air teeming with excitement for the upcoming stop in civilization. Conversation at the fireside abounds with the notion of being able to enjoy the shops and taverns of Daggerford, and the safer, more well-traveled section of the road between the smaller city and Waterdeep.
The morning brings with it a new share of problems, however. The air and weather are pleasant, but when Akira awakens to prepare her mind with spells for the day, she discovers her spellbook missing.
Akira fumes at being naive enough to put the theft past Aldor. She then seeks out Rogram, Merrick, and Karib as well as, Orvustia and Tyjit to seek help in tracking Aldor down. “This conniving lawyer is going to try to make his way to Waterdeep. He goes by the name AldorUrnpoleshurst and believes my spell book will aid him in his defense of a client in Waterdeep which means there will likely be a courthouse and a jail. I need to see if I can get there but have to be more careful having not studied by spells today.”

Rogram pledges to search for the thief. He asks for a description of Aldor and then begins systematically looking for the lawyer, not having any other responsibilities to occupy his time.

Merric frowns as Akira tells them about her missing spellbook. “He would be a fool to stay with the caravan, he has to know he would be the main suspect.” As Rogram rushes to search for Aldor, Merric takes a closer look around Akira’s wagon, looking for any tracks, signs, or clues that would point to who took the book and what direction they fled.
Merric does find tracks around Nyerhite's wagon that lead into and out of the wagon, not matching any prints made by the merchant or his guards. Unfortunately, they cross the road itself and into the well-traversed campsites on the opposite side, indicating that the thief could be anywhere among them.
Aldor proves surprisingly simple to find. Rogram and the others return with the lawyer, Tyjit roughly shoving him forward toward Akira. "Rude," the man scoffs at the dwarf, brushing dust off of his legs as he bows in front of Akira. "Akira! A pleasant morning to you. I do hope all this fuss indicates you're willing to reconsider my offer?"

“There are some tracks. They go across the road into the main campsite.” Merric shares what he has found with the others and looks up as Rogram brings Aldor back to the wagon. As Akira questions him, Merric sneaks a quick look at the man’s boots and tracks to see if they match the ones he just discovered.
