With his findings of the torches he looks around a moment more lacking whats needed for his plan.
Shaking it off only to look at the situation below and trying to see if all the raiders are bundled up near/behind the halfdragon or if they are still spread around the keep.
While up on the parapet he will scout for a route to take him closer to the raiders if there are buildings that would cover his approach. He will not go out yet untill he sees a path he could take that would avoid encountering raiders.
Rogram indicates Thrax with an outstretched arm and a nod of the head. "This one here, the brave Thrax, has volunteered," the half-dwarf says. His voice is filled with both regret and shame. "Now, open the gate so that he may rescue your loved ones."
As Thrax readies himself to leave the safety of the keep, Rogram lays a heavy hand on his shoulder. He clearly speaks a short arcane phrase, and Thrax feels bolder and slightly healthier. Retracting his hand, the half-dwarf says, "May your god, Azuth and Moradin all watch over you, my friend. You fight for Greenest, and Greenest is behind you."
Rogram casts heroism. For one minute from this point, Thrax is immune to being frightened, and he gains a whopping 2 temporary hit points at the start of each turn.
Yevele will slip through the gates after Thrax intent on making sure that the hostages make it into the keep safely. The monk will leave her quarterstaff and darts behind so that she will be unarmed to the raiders.
"Open the gate," Sergeant Markguth commands, and his two men stationed at the doors unbar it and crank them open slightly, just wide enough for a human to fit through. They leave them open as Yevele and Markguth himself step through behind Thrax and walk toward the vicious-looking creature that awaits them.
Smoke and Thia, gazing out at the scene from the ramparts, can see that no raiders have yet accompanied the half-dragon, aside from the sixteen kobolds that hover over the prisoners with daggers, cackling at the approaching champion. The rest of the raiding force is still hundreds of yards further behind the half-dragon, remaining in a circle around the keep. Most of their eyes are focused toward Thrax's approach as well.
The half-dragon flashes a toothy grin, beaming at the sight of a chosen champion. He holds out a hand when Yevele and Markguth are a few hundred feet away, saying, "That's close enough. Let the lizard approach."
His volume increases as he bellows loud enough for those on the wall and likely even some of the raiders further behind him, "Here are my terms. The three children will be set loose immediately. Your two escorts can remain in sight, but they come no further and they stay between me and the fortress. My kobolds will continue to stand guard over the woman. If there is any interference, they are under instruction to kill her immediately."
The kobolds cackle at the thought, shifting nervously over the captives. The half-dragon grumbles, "If a single archer in the keep lets fly, or your friends try to surround me or edge into position for an ambush, their daggers will be in her throat before the arrow reaches its target. Regardless of who wins," he chuckles, humored at the thought of losing, "The woman will be released when the fight is over. The victor is the last one standing."
On the wall, Governor Nighthill moves from guard to guard, ensuring that their crossbows are lowered.
The half-dragon reaches for the greatsword slung across his back, but smirks and hesitates, instead drawing the spear at his side. "I see you fight with a spear. I'm feeling friendly today, so not only will I release the woman when we're done, I will fight using the same," he says. "Are we in agreement, lizard?"
Sergeant Markguth glances at Yevele, breathing anxiously.
For Smoke:
There is a path from the stream toward the encircling army that winds between buildings, but to reach it would require returning through the old tunnel and into the streambed and would likely take tens of minutes.
Yevele will watch as the children are freed, sending them toward the keep. Once the children are safely back inside, the young woman will turn around and look the kobolds over that are surrounding the woman, figuring out how far they are away from them.
She will then lead down and whisper to Sergeant Markguth "If, if Thrax should fall, I'm going to retrieve his body immediately. You make sure the woman gets inside while I get Thrax. If anything happens to the woman, none of those kobolds leave this area."
Rogram stares blankly as Yevele and Markguth slip through the gate behind Thrax. But when the children are released and told to leave their mother and enter the keep, he shakes himself and yells at them to hurry. He waves an arm, trying to be encouraging without sounding too forceful.
Looking at the route he could take Smoke shakes his head. It would take far to much time. As his plans continue to fall apart he is forced to simply watch as the battle is about to begin.
He paces on the parapet nervous about what is to happen. How could Thrax stand a chance.. after all these battles to face such a creature alone. he says to himself
Smoke tries to get a hold of himself again, he has to be ready. Surely the halfdragon would try to deceive us.
Thorax nods, “We have an agreement Half-Dragon, draw your ssspear! Release the children, and Let us see who shall prevail!”
As soon as the children are safe, Thrax will fiercely clash his spear against his shield and shout to the heavens. He calls down a Sacred Flame onto the half dragon to initiate the fight.
OOC: So Thrax is currently boosted by both Heroism and Bardic Inspiration right?

OOC: I looked up whether someone can have inspiration from two bards at once, but the rules say no. Since inspiration can and usually is given verbally, it's possible Thrax can be inspired from the sidelines during the fight after he uses an inspiration. Rogram has one left.
The half-dragon grins again, spinning his spear into a comfortable position, gripping it halfway down its haft so that the tip hovers just above the ground. "Origato astahi gethris," he rasps at the kobolds, a command to release the children in Draconic. The minions obey. The younger ones seem frozen in place, unsure of whether to leave their sobbing mother, but between the coaxing of their older brother and the sight of Rogram and their uncle, they begin to run.
Initiative:
Thrax: 8
Half-Dragon: 19
Spear vs. Thrax: 7
Before Thrax can speak the incantation in full, the half-dragon charges, closing the distance at a remarkable speed for the creature's size. He lunges with a hearty growl, but Thrax switches gracefully from focusing on his spell to defense, pulling his shield in and slamming it down on the spear tip. The sudden burst knocks the half-dragon off balance, causing him to forego a follow-up attack in lieu of quickly resetting his stance.
Round 1 Order: Half-Dragon Thrax <=====
Placement: Thrax and the half-dragon are engaged in melee combat. The children are halfway to Rogram, Yevele, and Markguth.
Health: Thrax is wounded.
OOC: With all the talking, Thrax only has a couple rounds of heroism active, but also has a use of bardic inspiration to spend. I did not want to assume that Thrax would still use sacred flame now that the half-dragon has closed in, so I did not resolve his first turn since the situation changed. I'll try to update this fight as soon as Thrax has posted his turns since he's the main combatant.
Thrax's for the unarmored neck of the half-dragon, but again the creature moves with a grace that belies his size. The half-dragon turns his head, the spear striking only air. The creature suddenly reaches with one meaty hand and grabs the haft of Thrax's spear, pulling the lizardfolk hard toward him and thrusting his own spear at the same time.
A single sob from the captive woman is the only sound as Thrax drops to a knee, the silhouette of a spear cast through his body and out his back. The half-dragon cackles, raising his arms in victory. The kobolds let the woman go, who scrambles toward Sergeant Markguth and her children. The half-dragon wrenches his spear free. Thrax falls.
OOC: Thrax is unconscious and dying (0 successes, 0 failures).
Once the woman is with Sergeant Markguth, Yevele will begin walking toward Thrax, holding her hands up to show she is unarmed. She will simply say "I want to retrieve his body and return it to his kin." If the half-dragon will let her, the monk will begin to move Thrax back to the keep. If possible, she will pick the lizardman up and carry him back to the keep. If that is not possible, she will begin dragging him back to the keep.
Rogram stops urging the children forward as he sees the spear point plunge through Thrax's back. "No," he says in almost a whisper, his eyes fixed on the lizardfolk. His hand flexes as the impulse to grab his weapon and charge forward to avenge his new friend fills every bit of his body. His heart begins to pound in his ears as the sounds of the cheering kobolds turn into a muffled roar like a far-off waterfall. He watches the cleric fall to the ground and only vaguely acknowledges Yevele walking forward. How could this happen? Clearly, the half-dragon was very powerful to have smote Thrax so quickly. That could have been Rogram. Images of his mother and father quickly flicker behind his eyes. But as he sees Yevele begin to struggle with the cleric's body (this can change if the DM says so), Rogram pulls himself back to the here and now, and moves forward to help retrieve Thrax's body.

Thia, having already given inspiration to Thrax, will stay on the parapet, leaning on it for support and looking down on the assembled raiders.

Thrax says a solemn prayer to Gond and steps through the breach. Ready to face what may come.
He grips his shield and spear tightly, and he feels the power and inspiration of all his allies standing with him at this fateful time.
