hello! I am a newish DM, but a longtime player, and this is my first PbP as a DM. I am looking for 4-6 players (possibly more/less depending on an abundance/lack of good applications) for a horror campaign set in Faerun. this is a home-brew campaign, and I have never homebrewed a campaign before. level 2 characters, with point buy/standard/rolled stats (NO REROLL ONES- I will go through every application 👀. no "mistakes") you may roll, and then choose point buy/standard. UA is allowed, but no home-brew unless explicitly passed by me. standard equipment OR roll gold in the thread and you MUST spend all of it (you can keep under 20gp). Murder Hobos and edge lords may apply, but this is a horror campaign. actions can and will have devastating consequences.
you are seasoned adventurers, from all walks of life. you may be a scholarly wizard, or a grizzled fighter. a lucky thief, or a dark paladin. however one thing remains the same. you had a blackout. for three months you were quiet. no-one saw or heard of you, and you can't remember. then you died. horribly. and now you are back. not undead. fully alive. and you have a job to do...
please leave your applications below in this format.

this is a strictly unrailroaded campaign. do what you want in character. however, if you make a player uncomfortable out of character, then it is a ban. you have been warned. please pm me the word Hydra so I can tell you read the whole post. the recruitment will last up to a week, with a minimum of two days.
best of luck and happy gaming
Edit: alright folks. 'cause of the HORRENDOUS luck with rolls in this thread, everyone may reroll their stats once. don't delete the others, just add a second row.
Even before her untimely death, Edwyna was haunted by visions of death and destruction often having nightmares of firery destruction and creeping black death. She died in a fitful sleep from a seizer caused when she saw the face of the unspeakable horror behind her dreams, a massive writhing amalgam of teeth and eyes and tongues.

I wish it had been Goblins, they kill you quick. Too scared you might bite back. The wolves don’t care, they start to feed while you are still there; breathing your last breath, shedding your last drop of blood. They tear out your throat first, or at least most of it. They leave enough behind to keep you head still attached and your eye balls rolling. Then they go for the stomach. The tearing sound, like old leather and then the smell. They tracked me for days, leering in toward the fire each night as bold as brass. I’d shout, they’d run and then they would be back. My singing soothes them for a time but as starvation set in and the cold took my fingers one by one my music left me. My lute thrown on the fire for kindling, my voice a tattered croak. I wish it had been goblins, they’d have killed me quick.

Name: Marcus Sharpbrow
Race/Class: V. Human Fighter
Backstory: Marcus used to be a smuggler and an avid drinker, until he ended up in a ditch after a failed job, barely alive. A monk saved his life, and changed it, too. He was still an alcoholic, but the 10 days in the monk's care changed his view on life.
He abandoned his old ways and became a traveler, helping those in need and asking for very little in return. He started to understand the tales the monk shared with him and to appreciate how little gestures of kindness lifted the soul more than a pouch of gold pieces. People, even strangers, seemed to look at him in a different way. A better way. But eyes can deceive, and Marcus' senses were dulled.
He fell for a trick he himself used to pull on naive folk in what felt like another life. The ambush sprung, he was robbed of his more valuable possessions and left unconscious and bleeding on the rocky bed of a mountain creek. Or, maybe he was still in that old ditch, and this better version of himself was only a dying soul's dream, reaching for an unlikely redemption.
alright folks. 'cause of the HORRENDOUS luck with rolls in this thread, everyone may reroll their stats once. don't delete the others, just add a second row.

Like many dragonborn, the silver-scaled Flynt was born in the region of Tymanther to a militaristic mother and father. His closest friend was his twin brother Steel, a promising sorcerer who threatened to leave after a dispute with their parents. Still missing his brother after one year, Flynt decided to leave Tymanther, telling his parents he was escorting the Vanquisher of the region, when in reality he left to search for Steel. His quest to find his sibling led him to Neverwinter. Having no money, Flynt decided to work as a bouncer at the Driftwood Tavern. It was there he met a fellow dragonborn Eyeron Buhterflie, who told him about the god Bahamut and suggested he join the Talons, a group of dragonborn paladins inspired by the former Talons of Justice. On his first adventure, Flynt accompanied his fellow Talons to a house where they investigated a child murderer. The paladins found several sets of child bones, including and one living victim in the basement. The killer attacked the Talons and seeing Flynt shielding the boy, charged the Dragonborn, knocking over a lamp and setting the room on fire. backstory
Life was the dream. This was a different reality. She laid next to her husband and felt his muscular arms around her, her husband had died 28 years ago of the sickness, but here he was young and strong holding her tight. She could hear her children playing outside, her oldest son, one day a captain in the imperial army who had died 9 years ago fighting pirates. Her youngest boy so young and chubby. A happy baby who grew into a fine strong man with three sons of his own. The time had come she needed to leave the Winter Mother would not be kept waiting. She kissed her sleeping husband and children and walked into the cold night. Suddenly she gasped, she was awake again, she was alive again.
Kronk is an abomination, there is no other word for it. It seems a rather insane Necromancer was experimenting with mashing together different corpses and body parts. In one experiment, his last, unfortunately for him (or maybe not), he was working with the corpse of an halfling and a corpse of an ogre (one of which might have been the original Kronk, who ever that was, but that would be really stretching it.) Needless to say he was working 'discretely,' for fear of persecution you see, out in the middle of nowhere in a very secluded wood. As it happened a thunder and lightening storm sprang up , putting him into a pretty foul mood, it could be that that was where he messed up, and the following events were a result of his messing up the sequence of words in the incantation; but how ever it happened, the upshot was dramatic to say the least. Just as he cast the final parts of the spell he was struck by one fork of a bolt of lightening, the other one struck the halfling/ogre mess he was working on. It killed the necromancer while at the same time transferred his life force into the mess he was ensorcelling, causing the fused globules of putrid flesh to animate into the being that calls itself Kronk. By-the-by, for some reason unknown to himself, Kronk HATES necromancers. He has no memory of what happened, just remembers coming to in a storm next to a rather crispy corpse and the brutal struggle to find a place in the world that followed. Kronk has a rather strange affinity for dead things, not anything really corrupt or depraved, but he thinks that they talk to him and that he can sometimes talk to them. He has no fear in that regard. I class Kronk as a half-orc, but he is not really, as stated he is a monstrosity, with a rather intense charisma for such a creature. He thinks that lightening gives him powers, just what kind, well it could be that he is just delusional, but who knows, there are stranger things running around.
When he became aware of his surroundings the first time he was very confused, no thoughts entered his head as to what had happened or what was going on. Stumbling around in the woods he came upon the necromancer's abode wherein he found supplies and, most fortuitously for him, plate armour that fit, no only that, the armour help hide what he was from unsympathetic folk who would rather burn him to a crisp - the Frankenstein Syndrome one might say. He also found the iron bar that he uses as a weapon of choice at the present time, and that strange medallion. Secretly, in his heart of hearts, Kronk thinks that the creature depicted in the medallion created him. For quite some time, Kronk wandered the edges of civilized spaces trying to figure out how to fit in; he soon came to realize that he could make room for himself using the iron bar and his ferocious strength to make himself fit. People now rarely give him much grief and, surprisingly, seem to be rather polite around him. He also has a very weird odor about him, like slightly off bacon, or something.

I inherited an old tome from my human grandfather that had recently passed away. While reading it, I began to learn the cleric's knowledge that I have now, but upon getting partway through the book, I found some pages were unlike any of the others. Intrigued, and blinded by curiosity, I read the pages, slowly deciphering them. Upon finally finishing those accursed pages, I was struck down, by what, I'm not sure. Now that I wake again, I want to find out what was in those pages and what they did to me.

race/class: all official, CR and UA. Half-elf Knowledge Cleric
backstory (including how you died): I expect at least a paragraph
I inherited an old tome from my human grandfather that had recently passed away. While reading it, I began to learn the cleric's knowledge that I have now, but upon getting partway through the book, I found some pages were unlike any of the others. Intrigued, and blinded by curiosity, I read the pages, slowly deciphering them. Upon finally finishing those accursed pages, I was struck down, by what, I'm not sure. Now that I wake again, I want to find out what was in those pages and what they did to me.
Character sheet: https://ddb.ac/characters/32070848/0F5OMP - still need to sort out equipment, but will just look at getting standard equipment.
experience (pbp/dnd): this makes no difference, but forewarned is forearmed. (newbies may need help) - I'm pretty new to D&D, been playing since the start of the year as DM and recently into PbP games.
normal role (player/DM/other?): would love to DM for some DMs :) - I DM a local group and play a few PbP games.
(Still writing it)
