Symon Twist, Wizard
Ability scores: 131015141214
Having spent the major portion of his life studying the Arcane Arts, Symon felt it was time to make his way in the world. Having studied with a reclusive mage in a remote tower in The Crags, north of Neverwinter, Symon Set out for Phandalin to research and write the history of the Forge of Spells. He hoped that this project would eventually allow him access to the forge to craft a true wizard's staff for himself. He thinks of himself as a 'Wizard,' not the more mundane sounding 'mage,' and always so refers to himself. He is skilled in the alchemical arts, to the degree that he uses those abilities to support his ventures, that and selling 'love potions', a catch-all phase that encompasses all the sorts of potions people think they need to accomplish some particular desire. He does not do 'foul magiks' potions, poisons and that sort of wicked thing but, he does give people potions that really do make themselves feel good, on the theory that a person who feels good will be more successful in trying achieve the desired end than one who is feeling 'doubtful', shall we say. One of his specialties is 'Explosive Beads', which he finds is a fair money maker if he finds the right sort of buyer.
Things seems to have started off brightly, his travels proceeding smoothly, and with a bit of profit, until, that is, he neared mining town Leilon. Just north of the that tow he was waylaid by a small grund of goblins, from whom he barely escaped with his life by scattering most of his coin and a couple of Magic Missiles. In the ensuing scramble of the goblins, really only five of the nasty creatures, for the coins and their cowardly nature when face with a determined adversary, Symon managed to evade them. Thus it was that Symon Twist arrived in Phandalin essentially coinless and has since striven to rebuild his purse at the same time as he pursues his goal of writing about the forge. And here he hears a rumor of a small band of adventurers who are going to the actual mine itself. Unable to resist, Symon begins searching them out in hopes of persuading them to take him with them.
Symon Twist is a fairly good natured man, for a wizard that is, believes fair treatment deserves fair treatment - but ware to those who don't think that way. He is studious and generally keeps his word, being deceptive would be a circumstance when he might feel justified not doing so, not that he is very skilled in that art. He wears he dark hair and beard short, tall and a bit on the thin side, he is not the stolid sort of fellow. He wears dark greenish-grey clothing, with a pale green cloak pinned with a worked brass brooch. A arabesque silver medallion hangs about his neck (it has no particular meaning or import) that is not too ostentatious and he wears no rings or other jewelry, yet.
Though he is not the most robust sort of person, he can hold his own with a staff and is not too shabby with darts. He wears a scroll case suspended by a shoulder strap along his right side, balanced by a long dagger on the right.
My apologies, I am use to, almost by default, 4d6 always re-roll 1s and drop lowest; so the following is 4d6 drop lowest:

Crap, liked the first ones better, sigh; it might be easier just to make a short vid of rolling d6s and then posting that! I did not realize that by default the auto-roller did drop the lowest when rolling abilities and not changing the parameters re re-rolling ones and what not.

Backstory: Ricardo is the son of a slave. His mother, Isabel, was owned by a respected wizard, Xaltotum. She was responsible for cooking his meals and cleaning his house. A rival of Xaltotum's seduced her, hoping to gain access to the wizard's library. But, Xaltotum figured out what was going on before that happened. The rival did however impregnate Isabel with Ricardo. When Xaltotum realized that Ricardo had an aptitude for magic, he began to train the child. As Isabel a slave, Ricardo was born a slave. When he was old enough to help around the house, Xaltotum put him to work. The child was very clever, leading Xaltotum to give him ever more complex tasks, including transcribing maps and magic texts. When he realized that Ricardo had an aptitude for magic, Xaltotum began to train him as a wizard. Although Ricardo was raised in Xaltotum's home on the outskirts of Baldur's Gate, the young man had seen little of that city and absolutely nothing else of the sword coast. This all changed recently, when Xaltotum gambled Isabel in a game of wizard's chess, a game he lost. Following a heated argument with Xaltotum, Ricardo decided to run away and earn enough money to buy Isabel's freedom and his own freedom. Knowing that he would be instantly recaptured if he hung around Baldur's Gate, the young man he fled north to Waterdeep hoping to find opportunities their to earn money.

NAME: Darius Blackstone
RACE: Variant Human (Feat: Dual Wielder)
CLASS: Fighter (Battlemaster)
BACKGROUND: Variant Sailor: Pirate
STATS: 141715151815 - Going to go CHA, CON, STR, WIS, DEX, INT with those
BACKSTORY:
Darius thought his youth was hard. A stubborn boy with a stubborn, strict father, he thought that running off to sea would be the beginning of a grand new life!
He couldn't have been more wrong.
Once aboard the ship of the Dread Pirate Doomstein, he quickly found himself forced into subjugation by hardened sea criminals who didn't care whether he lived or died. He fought hard... the first couple of days. But eventually had to acknowledge he had no choice but to adapt to this new way of life.
Over time, he learned the ways of sailing, fighting, piracy, and more. Eventually, he found himself an established crewman, and it wasn't until the captain declared his retirement that he realized, not only could he do what he wanted, but he probably could have left years ago. But it was just that... he had nowhere to go, and nothing else to do.
Deciding against taking up a captaincy of his own, Darius decided to try his hand at adventuring. Perhaps with a few treasure chests full of gold, and a bit of renown, he could return back to his hometown as something other than a COMPLETE lost cause....

Name - Gimble (Badger) Murnig
Race - Gnome
Class - Bard
Background - Criminal
Backstory - Gimble was raised in a small orphanage in a gnome village. The orphanage consisted of about 20 gnomes of all ages. Life in the orphanage was boring the only thing Gimble enjoyed was playing his lute. At the age of 16, Gimble joined a thieves guild in the local city of Neverwinter.
Gimble was in the thieves guild for a few years, until he was kicked out for showing mercy to a human man they were robbing. After he got kicked out of the thieves guild he used his skill with the lute to make money in taverns. One day while playing his flute, large balls of light came out and surrounded him during his performance. He learnt to channel this music magic and became Gimble Murnig bard extraordinaire.

Backstory (may have gone a bit overboard)
War! I was born to war. My father was a Captain serving in the army of Kaldrum, Lord of the Mountain. I was born in a time of war with the evil Orcs, and Goblins, which seems to be a constant state of affairs. As I was growing up, I learnt the arts of fighting (and drinking), but a lot of fighting was going on. I took my place in the army as my father wished, though not in the same unit to stop any favouritism. My father however, still had a role in shaping my progress and my training in the finer arts. During this time, I made many friends and still have attachments of loyalty with those of my unit.
My early years were spent scouting and raiding in defence of the kingdom. There were many losses, far too many in my opinion, due to stupid orders and soldiers blindly following those orders! One night, we were ordered out to hunt down a dragon stalking the mountain and to not return without killing it. That night, I barely made it out alive. Our unit was annihilated, and only a few of us returned. The officer in charge was incompetent, a flunky of Kaldrum who was only there to magnify his own position - our regular officer was "reassigned" for that mission. So many of our troops used to following good orders blindly followed the orders of Jorrol without question, and ended up becoming martyrs to the cause. I was nearly a martyr myself, however a good friend I had grown up with, Náli, pulled me aside from the dragon's breath.
Jorrol, may Dol Dorn take his rotten soul, fled with barely a hair singed. Together, myself, Náli and a handful of others battled for two days and defeated the dragon. We returned to the Kingdom, and received a reception far different to what we expected. Jorrol had returned before us, and had taken all the credit. We were accused of cowardice and disobeying orders. I was angry, furious even, and struck Jorrol with the leg of the dragon that I carried back as proof of his death. Jorrol, weakling that he was, hid behind Kaldrum and ordered we all be punished for our deeds. My father pleaded on my behalf, and due to his standing with the army, and the people, Kaldrum listened to him. Instead of being restrained with loss of rank, we few were banished from the Kingdom to find work wherever we could, in the army of another Lord, or as guards in the mines.
The loss of my position with my people and family drove me mad, I was no longer a soldier - I had been made to become a mercenary, seeking out the highest bidder. To this day, the horror of battle, of ignorant fools follows me, the loss of my friends that night has made me slow to make new friends, especially with those humans whose lives are so fleeting. If I ever come across Jorrol again, I have sworn an ignominious death for him. Cross me with care!
