Daeris crosses the stream toward the goblin hoping it will survive long enough to question. If it doesn't, well, there are likely more. If it refuses, there's a plan for that as well.
Chantrea lowers her bow and follows the others to the injured goblin. She thinks it best to keep this one alive for questioning, though she would be hesitant to use healing on him. She will wait and see, letting one of her party-mates take the lead.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
I did this with Daeris live so she could see what it might be like. I also thought it would move this part along faster.
Daeris approaches the goblin and leans over him. Smiling gently she assures him, "I'm not going to kill you if you can help me find my friend. Where is Gundren?"
17Critically persuasive!
Information begins to pour out of the goblin in a torrent.
"Gundren. . the dwarf. . Klarg. . he made us! Grol .. Grol has him!"
"Calm down. . be calm. . who is Klarg and where is Gundren?"
"Klarg is our leader ", he answers looking obviously disappointed , ". . He got a paper from King Grol. . The Black Spider said to catch dwarf. . must be alive and send dwarf and aaall he carry to Grol. Grol wanted something . . .bad!" The goblin begins to calm down thinking he might actually survive this encounter, "Stunt. ."his eyes dart to Nelly and then back to Daeris, "..dwarf had a map. . dwarf and map gone to Castle." Seeing Daeris' smile drop, the goblin quickly adds looking toward the cave entrance, "Dwarf's friend, human.Sid. . Si . he's in eating cave.", He finishes with a smile nodding.
Daeris looks to the others.
Feel free to ask any questions you might have for this little guy.
Defeating the ambush and finding the cave is a "milestone" This is an option for XP in 5th edition (if I have this right) that awards reaching a place or solving a problem. The XP is not based on monsters killed etc. . you could avoid them as well. From now on XP will be awarded at intervals based on monsters and challenges overcome (again, you don't need to find or kill everything). It will be added up based on encounters and potential dangers and divided unlike milestone XP. You do have to encounter the danger though. . going home now doesn't net you the total XP for the adventure :)
Everyone receives 75XP. You can add this to your character or I can if you want. Let me know :) What I thought I disliked about 5E. . fast character progression will actually work out well for play by post :)
To add XP go to your character (you don't have to edit.) use drop down by name. . chose "manage XP" and then add amount 75.
The dwarf eyes Daeris with newfound respect. She's never heard someone scare a goblin into talking by speaking in such a soothing voice. Maybe calm things terrify them? Huh. Next time, Nelly will have to try singing lullabies. (The idea that enemy goblins might respond to a stimulus other than fear never really occurs to the girl...)
"Eating hall? Whatcha serving, hmm? Rabbit stew? Maybe dried venison and tubers?Wait..." Nelly squints as a realization dawns on her several seconds too late. "....you're eating Sid, ain't ya?"
Lowblo was about to finish the goblin off but then sees Daeris speaking with it and thinks better of attacking. Disappointed, he eases his hand off of the trigger. Board with "talking" he goes to the goblin's newly dead companion and starts to search for anything shiny.
Looking to Nelly the goblin begins to answer. . . swallows, begins to answer another way. Finally in resignation he says, "I not eat"
Searching around the area where the goblins were talking, Lowblo find some bones in a cup and 13 copper pieces that are in pretty bad shape.
People can continue to converse with the goblin or plan next moves (both simultaneously - even if chronologically out of order). When people are finished asking questions. . the goblin will smile his best toothy grin (teeth are sharpened into points) and ask if he might be able to leave and never come back. . in any direction the party chooses.
Ruvaar's brow furrows with anger upon hearing of Sildar's fate. Ruvaar had a great respect for Sildar as he had taken Ruvaar under his wing and taught him a great deal of things. Putting aside his anger for the moment while letting it fuel his interrogation, Ruvaar grabs the Goblin by his collar roughly.
"Which castle?! How long ago did they leave?! Answer me Goblin!"
His hard eyes maintain an intense eye contact with the Goblin as he demands this information.
In the event that the Goblin asks to be allowed to run off and never come back, and the group decides to let him, Ruvaar would like to suggest that they cut off one of the Goblins hands - as recompense for Sildar's death, as well as limiting his future prospects. After all, he can't escape unpunished.
The goblin sees Ruvaar approach at the mention of the human in the eating cave, terror in his eyes he slutters, "We no eat yet!"
"Cragmaw castle!.. . 2 days. maybe. . that way!" he points into the woods to the east. . then the north east. He smiles at Ruvaar apologetically, "I only go once. No kill me!"
Deep green eyes watch Ruvaar's wrathful interrogation. She feels reassured to know that the classics also work when it comes to greenskin communication. The girl nods subconsciously, expressing her approval at his straightforward heroic anger. Too bad he's so tall. Would have made a good dwarf.
Turning her attention to Lowblo, she continues her nod. "All dun 'ere."
Sniffing the air, Nelly tries to remember which direction the kitchen is in. Or smell it out. Either way, it's time to rush forward courageously. Hopefully even to the right destination.
Daeris looks toward the cave entrance, glancing around at her companions, "I am done. We could let him go. . or take him with us. Either one could be dangerous.", with Nelly's comment and Ruvaar's determination she adds, "We're going in I guess". Looking to Lowbo she asks, "maybe take a look inside quick for us after we decide on him?"
Daeris crosses the stream toward the goblin hoping it will survive long enough to question. If it doesn't, well, there are likely more. If it refuses, there's a plan for that as well.
Ruvaar follows Daeris, with similar intentions.
Next post will be Thursday evening.
Sorry will be Friday AM

Ruvaar releases the Goblin, pleased with the information he gave. He turns to the others.
"Sildar lives. Ask what you will of this Goblin, but we must save Sildar. After, we can go to this Cragmaw Castle."
Lowblo quickly pockets his findings and turns his attention back to the interrogation, "Yess, new guy. Let's go to cave."
Pointing at the prisoner and addressing the rest of the group, "Done talkie talkie?"

He then points his cross bow at the downed goblin and puts a bolt in him.
(let me know what I need to roll, not sure what mods apply)
Stealth with advantage should do. When in doubt throw down a bunch of d20. ;)
Sounds good. ;)
