As the group approaches the city Krom points at the cliffside fortress "That fortress should be able to withstand the dragon's assault for a while. It could be a safe place for the population while we take care of the creature."
The dwarf listens to the conversation between Rhogar and the soldier then adds at the end "Only the Mead Hall still stands in Good Mead, all the other buildings have been destroyed. This winged threat is unfortunately real lad, be prepared to defend your city. The Fellowship of the White Cloaks will help at the best of our capabilities, but in order to do that we could use some rest as we haven't slept in the last three days."
"Did you say 'one of ours' came two days ago?" Kazri asks the guard breathing heavily, and she takes a moment to catch her breath. "Also, does this town have any siege equipment?"

Chill stepped of the sled and immediately went to check the dogs. They were tired, exhausted and so was he. He hadn't felt so tired in a long, long time.
"I'd like to hope we have enough time to get a good rest in before the dragon shows up but I doubt we are that lucky. It'll be here soon, I think we got just ahead of it. If Easthaven is a big as they say it is then the dragon will have been busy there for a while allowing us to get in front of it."
He pauses and looks about.
"Krom is right, you need to get your people into the Caer. That's your best hope. We'll fight the dragon, you need to help the people. Maybe part of the town, the buildings, will survive but the people need to be protected."
He again looks around.
"I need to get a feel for the town and where might be the best place to set out defense, though this may be a run and gun mission. I doubt the dragon will oblige to hanging around the Caer and let use fight from there. Let's get moving."
The soldier looks at Kazri, "Aye ma'am, one of yours, came riding in on a griffon. Wore a white cloak just like yours. He was half an orc from what I could see. He warned of a coming danger, a dragon. He didn't stay long, said he needed to warn other towns."
Things started to make sense to you. Rekuburk had been very quiet recently and had followed the party to the Sunblight fortress. But after making entry into the fortress you found that he was no longer with you. The best you can determine is that when the dragon left the fortress he mounted the Griffin that he could summon with the statute that he carried and he must have gone back to Ten-towns to warn the people.
"Speaker Crannoc Siever has been ill and doesn't come out much. Most of the folk in town have been moved to the Caer. Maybe 100 souls live here. Most of the soldiers you see are members of the Knights of the Black Swords. Thought there are a few in the town that can still fight. You say the one responsible for the 'dragon's' creation? Would they be duergar by any chance? We have been told that there is a threat to the Ten-towns. Hethyl says we need to fight these duergar. Are the duergar in league with a dragon?"
Krom smiles as the soldier speaks about Rekuberk's visit. "Our lad and his griffon are very fast, I'm sure that he managed to warn the other towns that I could not reach with my hymns."
"We took care of the duergar that created and unleashed the dragon, the remaining ones will not bother the Ten-Towns anymore." replies the dwarf before asking "Is Speaker Crannoc in the Caer now?Has he been visited by a cleric? I'm a Smith of Moradin and our Kazri and Rhogar have healing abilities too, maybe we could help him."
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
"That's Rekuburk for sure. Good on him. Let's head for the Caer and figure out our defenses." Chill says. Then a thought occurs to him. "Wasn't it Cora, in Bremen? Yeah, Cora! She was missing her son, Huarwar. Got picked up by some strange folk and brought to a castle."
Chill turns and takes a good look at the man (trying to see what he wears, maybe some sort of crystal shard? Perception 19
"You wouldn't happen to know a man named Huarwar would you?" Chill asks the man.
Rhogar looked a touch confused at the guard at the initial explanation. But as things finally clicked into the place, he found himself chuckling and muttering to himself, "That sneaky half-orc."As the others continued to talk Rhogar used that time to recompose himself, as well as quietly summon Gorrah to his shoulder. That way he could fill her in through their mental bond while clearly more focused minds sorted things out for a time.

"Your arcane aid may help us bringing down this dragon, but if you have spells that can be used for defending the Fort, it may be for the best if you stay there helping the people." says Krom to Vellynne "The choice is yours of course." The dwarf turns once again towards the soldier and asks "You mentioned a person named Hethyl, who are they? Your commander?"
"Aye, yes I know a Huarwar. He joined the Black Swords a month or so ago. A good lad. As for Hethyl, she's the oldest living member, Hethyl is. She's a peg-legged dwarf who lost her right foot to frostbite. Hates duergar as most dwarves do. Our leader, Levistus, has warned the Knights of the Black Sword that duergar are plotting the destruction of Ten-Towns. If you oppose them then we stand with you. follow me, I'll take you to him. Levisitus that is, he'll want to meet you." He beckons you to follow him as he makes his way to the castle.
Kazri checks on Oli who walks along as he ever does, happy to be near Kazri. Vellynne gives her a faint smile. "I'm exhausted, yet still pretty strong. I could use a good long rest but I fear that won't happen. I doubt we have that much time. But thank you for checking on me."
As you make your way along the path through town you see a sturdy, stone castle devoid of warmth and ostentation squats atop the cliffs overlooking the town and the frozen harbor. Warding the castle entrance are thick, battle-hardened wooden doors. Four cylindrical guard towers have wind-worn flags bearing the town’s heraldry fluttering above their tiled, conical roofs. These towers are connected by icy battlements and parapets. Atop the castle walls and within the guard towers, torches flicker.
You pass an inn along the way up the hill. Several people are gathered outside talking and as you pass the door opens and inside you see more people.
"That's The Uphill Climb. Many people are within as the castle isn't big enough to hold everyone."
The man reaches gates and speaks to the guards standing outside. A few moments later the two lowered iron portcullises and two sets of closed wooden doors that seal off the castle are opened and you follow the man inside and into a courtyard. Footprints in the snow lead to various doors along this courtyard’s perimeter, including a tall double door to the keep, with its unwelcoming row of arrow slits and barred windows on the upper floor. To the east of the double door is a small, single-story building with a slanted, snow-covered roof. West of the double door are two unused merchant stalls with torn canopies. Tucked under some icy stairs in the northwest corner is a slender wooden hut with a crescent moon carved into its flimsy door. People are huddled and sit on the ground along the walls and stand in small groups. The courtyard is crowded from all of the townsfolk within.
You are startled when you see two familiar faces. Two brigands who were at the Icespire hold where you defeated the white dragon. Runa Vokdottir. A muscular woman with black hair and cold blue eyes. You recall that Runa said she hailed from Icewind Dale far to the north. The other is Brakkis Elspaar. An unshapely man whose best years are behind him. Brakkis still follows Runa. You remember that you let them go after killing some of their compatriots in Icespire Hold.
"A prime target for our 'dragon', if the cruelty of it's creator went as far as granting it a like will."Rhogar commented in passing in bitter tones. However, with some nuzzling from Gorrah, the Rhogar eventually huffs and seems to calm again for the duration of the trip, if nothing else.
In later seeing the familiar faces of Brakkis and Runa, the Dragonborn had indeed been a touched startled at first. But then in remembering their last meeting, he narrowed his eyes, and asked quietly of the guard/guide as the group continued on thier way, "Those two."He tries to subtly gesture to the pair. "Brakkis and Runa. I take it they haven't been causing any trouble around town before this whole dragon business?"

As Krom notices Runa and Brakkis he is about to say something to them, but seeing that Kazri has already taken the initiative, the dwarf stays silent and follows the paladin with his eyes.
Chill studies the defenses of the castle as they approach. "Yes, the town is too open and that inn will certainly be a target. When the dragon gets here we need to draw its attention away from destroying the town and into defending itself. That'll be the trick for sure."
He eyes the two from Icespire Hold and nods in agreement with Krom. "Yes, keep an eye out for the amulets. Something about them we don't understand yet, but we got bigger fish to fry at the moment with the dragon coming."
He steps up with Kazri as she approaches Runa and Brakkis and listens to their conversation.
Runa grins as Kazri approachs while Brakkis only scowls. "Have you joined us here? Were you lost in the ice and snow as well? How did you come to be here?"
