When the whale comes to the surface you are too far away from the ship to see it in the darkness that covers the north. Chill though is confident in his skill and sets off in the direction indicated by Krom. He moves with agile grace and he is less than a shadow in the darkness and moves across the ice. Ever alert and watchful, with the aid of Gorrah, they keep and eye out for trouble. It takes several minutes but Chill eventually finds the body of Nass Lantomir. He searches around but he cannot find the orb.
What he does find is a set of very fresh tracks that disappear into the darkness towards where the Dark Duchess lies trapped in the ice. The set of tracks come from that direction and another returns. Chill is very certain they are the tracks of a kobold.
It seems a kobold has found the orb just prior to his arrival and appears to have come from the Dark Duchess and is returning there.
Kazri holds one of the sending stone as she sees Chill leave the ship. She will keep her eye on him as much as she is able. She pets Oli as he whines a little, for he is worried about Ghorar. He got used to his friend’s company, and misses the little one already.
I believe you gave the other stone to the Speaker of Bryn Shander.
Rekuberk waits as Chill goes towards the ship, wondering if he should have gone as well. Either way he watches closey tonight their companion in sight.
As minutes passes, Krom keeps concentrating on the hymn reading himself to cast it again after 10 minutes if Chill does not return. "The orb seems to be moving, it's getting closer, but it has changed direction." says Krom as tracks the orb. "Maybe Chill is avoiding something or someone." The dwarf turns towards Kazri and Rhogar "We should contact him, just to be sure that everything is fine."
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Chill would have told Kazri that he does not have the sending stone. He would have reminded her she gave it to the mayor of Phandalin.
After discovering the body and the fresh tracks Chill tries to decide what to do. They can't be that far as. "Gorrah, I don't know if you can communicate with Rhogar, we are pretty far out. But can you show him these tracks? Let's follow them and at least make sure they are headed for the ship. Then we'll head back to the others. And don't give me that look. We are not getting lost out here. If Krom wanted he could use that spell to find the crossbow he gave me and thus find us. So I'm not worried about it. But I want to be sure."
He looks up and around.
"And keep an eye out for the dragon. We haven't seen it yet. Hopefully its not around."
Chill moves to follow the tracks, as fresh as they are it should not be too hard. But he doesn't want to be seen either.
((Yes, the mayor in Phandalin has the other stone, not the speaker in Bryn Shander))
As Chill had set off to find the orb at some point near the end of his spell Krom notices that the orb starts to move. He recasts the spell and can clearly discern that the orb is moving in the direction of where the shipwreck was.
Chill follows the tracks that are clearly seen in the snow. It doesn't take long to confirm the tracks do lead to the shipwreck. Keeping a careful eye out there are no signs of the dragon that is reported to visit here on occasion.
Meanwhile, back with Chill and Gorrah, the former had indeed given the Tabaxi a disapproving look. But almost immediately after, a feeling of giddiness and mischievousness emitted from the celestial sliver, reminding Chill that she was not quite the stick-in-the-mud as Rhogar, a changed Dragonborn though he might've been after his time away from the others. And Rhogar could do little about things short of dismissing her, and even that might not be possible.
In any event, as Gorrah continued to assist Chill while also sharing her senses with Rhogar, said dragonborn carried on saying with notable tinge of seeming directionles annoyance to his voice, "It seems they found some tracks. Small ones. Can't be sure of what they belong to since Chill has not thought to say, but they are leading the pair in the direction of the shipwreck. Chill intends to get closer and confirm it before returning to us." He sighed, and eventually closed his eyes in both apparent frustration and to make the images less disorienting.
"More than likely Gorrah will try to goad him into taking a chance to explore a bit more, the little rascal. And I would say... give them a chance to do so, if Chill is of a mind to. But, I will happily acquiesce if the rest of you wish to go as well should he make that choice instead."
"So someone else is took the orb and Chill with Gorrah are following them?" says Krom as Rhogar explains what Gorrah showed him. "The thief is heading towards the shipwreck, I say that we too head there so to cut off their escape route." The dwarf continues "This thief may be gathering in the shipwreck items for the Dragon and they are probably not alone." Krom places his hand on the head of his war hammer "I say we go. Even if Chill and Gorrah are very good at hiding their presence, they may find themselves outnumbered and we may lose our chance to get the orb."
“Agreed. However, what shall we ask Angajuk to do while we are searching for the orb?” Kazri asks the group. “Excuse me Angajuk, do you have any other pressing manners that you need to attend to at the moment?” Kazri asks the great whale.

The rest of the group then disembarks from Angajuk and heads in the direction of the where the ship would be. Rhogar was easily convinced to go by Kazri and Krom and Rekuburk, already having doubt that maybe he should have gone with Chill, likely didn't take much convincing.
Meanwhile Chill and Gorrah follow the tracks towards the ship as well.
The Sea of Moving Ice stretches out before you, a featureless, frozen desert. Ahead, the smooth white surface is interrupted by a towering ship, its exterior covered in frost.

Chill continues to follow the tracks in the snow. Used to working in silence he doesn't say much until the ship comes into view. He finds a spot to watch the ship looking for the kobolds or the dragon.
"Kobolds Gorrah. Wretched little kobolds out here in the ice and snow. Living on the ship I bet. Found a home. They like to worship dragons so don't be surprised if they serve the dragon here. But we need the orb so I guess we'll have to check the ship."
He looks around for a moment.
"Don't fret Gorrah. We aren't doing it ourselves. Can you let Rhogar know we are near the ship? We'll wait for them here or head back and find them. But if I know Kazri and Krom they'll be itching to get here themselves so they're likely on their way already. We'll wait a bit to see if they show up."
Krom thanks Angajuk for the help and starts walking in the direction of the wreckage. "Rhogar, it will be difficult to find Chill and Gorrah as they are probably well hidden. Can you see through Gorrah's eyes and lead us there?"
As the group starts walking, Krom readies his hammer and scans the area for eventual threats or hazards. (Perception14)
Gorrah looked initially confused up at Chill. But then when he moved on to the whole 'let Rhogar' know, her confusion turned into a dry look followed by crawling up to nip at Chill's ears. Unsuccessfully, mind you, but she tried all the same before sending feelings of disappointment and annoyance the tabaxi's way.
She then uses her stinger to point in the direction of the ship, followed by an images in quick succession of a cat paw next to a pseudodragon claw, a ball, darkness, and then finally a simplified version of the whale. She then seems to almost smile and nods enthusiastically, trusting Chill to have gotten the gist of her plan. If not, she then adds an image of Krom and Kazri, only more fatter by appearance, followed by a feeling of embarrassment sent Chill's way.
Meanwhile, Rhogar, who at least kept one eyed close during the trip admits, "I can manage as much. Though, I fear we may inadvertently give away their position." He frowned. "Though, 'she' at least hasn't seen or been alerted to any sentinels in the area, so I suppose it'll be fine.... The real question is how do we wish to deal with the Kobolds inside -- for there are Kobolds, or so Chill has told Gorrah." Rhogar added as he took point to guide the others.
"Kobolds? They are probably serving the dragon that occasionally visit the wreckage." replies Krom as Rhogar finishes to explain. "If they have added the orb to the dragon's hoard or they plan to do that, I doubt they will be give it to us willingly." The dwarf pauses a moment and looks at Rhogar while scratching his chin "But maybe, a display of power from our dragonborn friend, could change their mind." "If talking does not work, this will do" Krom swings his war hammer in the air. "We can not afford to stay here for too long, we do not know when the dragon will return."
Rhogar chuckled and nodded in agreement. "Hopefully, it will not come to blows. But, I can make no promises. Though we counted Kobolds among my village's number, they were few. Exiles, much as ourselves, though from more varied tribes and due to their own circumstances. So to say the least, they were a touch more unique in how they viewed the world and even true dragons." He explained along the way. "But like you and many know, once they have found a true Dragon patron, a god by their perspective, it is difficult to entreat with them, to say the least. For what is a Dragonborn, even one as divinely blessed and destined to endure the trials of ascension, compared to one already so ancient and powerful? Hahaha! But! I will try my best to dissuade them when the time comes."
