Following behind the others as the leave the church, Ioben hears the cries of pastries. "Who would be out in this selling pastires?" He asks, a little confused. "I think after what we have already experienced we should follow the recommendation of the priest in buying our goods. Let's not trust a stanger out and about in this."
“Well, I gave you my solution father, but I’ll let you think on it, I’ll go join the others for now,” says Dormark leaving the room. He quickly finds the group and tags along behind them.
"Old Mo? She's been coming to the village for as long as I can remember. Bit of an oddball but seems harmless enough." Ismark says to Valerie."Her pastries are often the talk of the village!"
He pauses briefly in thought,"She lives at the Old Mill on the way to Vallaki. Could be useful to speak with her prior to departing, might have news about the town."
"I do like pastries..."remarks a hesitant but tempted Baern. Remembering another issue with Barovia he bitterly adds "what do they cost, two hundred gold each?"
Dormark looks at the old woman and says with a whisper, “This land is inhabited by dark beings. We should be careful of what we imbibe from random peddlers, or at least see how they make their products.”
"You want the recipe?" asks Baern, a little confused but mostly teasing Dormark. "When we get out of this place you can visit my home and Father will be happy to teach you take bake, I'm sure. Ha!"
"One whole g...!" Baern cuts himself off, just astounded by the apparent inflation in this new place. "This place IS cursed..."he mutters while following Ismark into the tavern.
There he looks around a bit more closely, specifically behind the bar and glancing into any back rooms. He waits patiently to ask the barkeep if they happen to have any adventuring supplies, weapons, armor, etc.
"Not what i meant, but knowing what actually goes into your food helps make sure you don't have any problems. I knew a dwarf who was allergic to nuts and decided he wanted to try a desert. Well unfortunately it had nuts, he lived but he was pretty miserable for the time," says Dormark following the others to the tavern and stands in the corner of the door letting them purchase supplies.
'Pastries, huh?' Sandu mused. He eyed the old woman. She looked like a crazy old bag but then again, Barovia did not strike him as the kind of place where one would grow old peacefully. The fact that she was still out and about must speak volumes to her constitution.
'Not really a travel food but sure, I'll have one.' Sandu reached for a gold coin and extented his hand towards the saleswoman, pinching the coin between thumb and index finger.
Sandu - "Morning Lord have favour on you sir"Old lady Mo says as she hands Sandu the pastry; it smells inviting and is warm to the touch. She accepts payment and goes to set off pushing the cart down the street, a number of curtains begin to twitch as other Barovians take notice of the pastry seller.
Baern, Valerie & Dormark - As you enter the tavern there seem to be a few faces around. You all instantly recognise the three Vistani ladies that were there previously, Ismark tilts his head towards them in greeting, "Morning Ladies". The Vistani women glance back at Ismark and wave their hands dismissively.
Ismark goes straight to Arik at the bar and starts speaking under his breath, those within a few feet of the conversation hear;
"You have the provisions? We will be setting off later today."
"Very good sir. All is ready." Arik's voice is monotone and feelingless.
"My sister and I do not know how long we shall be. Please ensure that our house is kept well in the meantime."
"I can do that." Arik says bluntly.
You see Ismark hand a coin pouch over to Arik. Arik checks the contents and nods to Ismark.
"Meet me out back before you set off."
Ismark looks like he is about to say something before stopping himself and gently grabbing Arik's hand giving it a slight squeeze.
"Thank you, friend." Ismark says earnestly.
Ismark turns to the group and loudly says, "drinks are on me!" before ordering a glass of wine and moving to take a seat at the table to the left of the main door (coincidentally the same seat you first saw him when you first entered the tavern).
Ismark whispers to the group;
"Arik will help us out with provisions for the road. I am going to spend a little while here - do not want to arouse any suspicions." Ismark smiles meekly at the group."You're welcome to join me in the meantime."
((I typed a post a post yesterday but it doesn’t appear to have saved. It was in relation to the person selling pastries, so I guess I am with Sandu 👍))
Not wanting to spend any more time in this place the necessary, Ioben hangs back from the pastry seller. “Can’t we just pick the stuff we need and go? Pastries aren’t exactly going to help us on the road.”
After Sandu completes his purchase, Ioben looks around at the street. “I hate this sensation. It seems like there are eyes always watching us here. Now, is there anything else you need to buy? A new shirt, in the Barovian style? Maybe some flowers? I here that the undead love a nice bunch of flowers.”
Baern - Ismark looks at you kindly, "A few Baern, not many but a few. Vallaki would be your best bet. Many outsiders are drawn to the bigger towns." He contemplates further,"You are not the first dwarf I have seen in Barovia, rest assured." ((You have yet to have seen any dwarves... predominantly you have seen Barovians, Vistani and a rather large looking lad that might be half-giant given his size! (Parri!)))
Sandu & Ioben - As you complete your purchases Old Lady Mo smiles warmly at you both and proceeds to totter down the street pushing her cart along. Lo and behold many of the locals are now at their doorsteps looking to buy their own pastries. Please can you both make Insight and Perception checks.
Dormark takes a sit across from Ismark and says, "It has been awhile since I had a drink, but with good company and with how things have been of late I won't turn it down. Getting a bottle of hard liquor from the barman and some small glasses he pours a shot for his companies currently in the store, and Ismark. He knocks back his own drink before setting the glass back down waiting for the others to have their drinks.
Dormark - Ismark chuckles quietly as he see's you knock back the drink, "Easy there friend, the morning is still young!". Not wishing to cause offence Ismark takes the shot and starts sipping at it tentatively, "To brighter days!" he toasts.
As the Old Lady continues down the street towards the East of the Village you notice many Barovians gathering to buy their pastries. Oddly enough a number of the Barovian's seem beyond eager to receive their pastries - a man rubs his hands together impatiently, a lady seems hyperactive as she impatiently waits for the sugary treat, many more seem 'on edge'. One Barovian acting odd would not cause you to question, but you notice this behaviour in a number of the village people. Are the pastries really as good as these Barovian's appear to believe?
Aside from noticing the Barovian's bizarre behaviour, you glimpse an all too familiar sight on the rooftops of a nearby residence. A raven you are sure you have seen more than once around the village, it's familiar blue-tipped wings on full display. The raven eagerly eyes the old pastry seller as she makes her way down the street. Swooping after her as she begins to leave it's sight. Just before it follows the old lady you could swear it made eye contact with you.
((Out of curiosity, and in a no way foreboding way, can I inquire whether either Ioben or Sandu has started eating the pastry yet?))

"I think after what we have already experienced we should follow the recommendation of the priest in buying our goods. Let's not trust a stanger out and about in this."
Baern makes an unpleasant face at the sight of the pastry seller and turns to Ioben with firm nod of agreement.
“Well, I gave you my solution father, but I’ll let you think on it, I’ll go join the others for now,” says Dormark leaving the room. He quickly finds the group and tags along behind them.

Ismark smirks at Baern, "200 gold each! I dare say at that price she'd be living in a palace, not a mill! I believe they were 1 gold piece a pastry."
"Either way, I'll just be in the tavern should you need me." With that Ismark strolls to the tavern and enters.

She smiles at the old lady and gives her a nod then follow the party to the tavern.
