Galqarin gives them a friendly wave, which, since he is also frowning as he tries to count how many of them they are, could be misconstrued. "One handful", he thinks to himself.
“Of course I have heard of them but...” Ioben stops dead in his tracks as the others appear with the corpse, the bugbear, walking behind them.
'But they're not supposed to-' Sandu retorted when he stopped as well at the sight of the others.
Dormark seeing Sandu and his bandage leg runs over and says, “Are you alright, what happened.” He sees that the wound is already bandage and that Sandu putting weight on the leg meant he wasn’t overly injured. Dormark grabs Sandu by shoulders and says, “I’m glad you weren’t injured badly, but it looks like you learn your lesson about running off from the group.”
Sandu had to take a moment to collect himself from Dormark grabbing his shoulders. Turned out it was a bit hard to dissuade a walking, talking metal man from grabbing you when you only had one foot to stand on.
'I, uhm,' He said to Dormark after he managed to shake the warforged's hands off his shoulders, 'I stepped into a trap. I think it was meant for-'
"This land is dangerous", Galqarin affirms, having followed behind the metal man. Without guile he adds, "Full of monsters."
Sandu went pale in the face at the sight of the bugbear. That is to say, even paler than he already was from his ordeal. He stumbled back from Dormark's graps which was a bad idea. His foot gave way from the sudden weight put on it and Sandu fell flat on his back. Tears of pain mixed with the beads of sweat on his face as he crawled away backwards on his elbows as best as he could.
'Stay away!'Sandu yelled. He tried to put some distance between him and the bugbear but between holding his leg and not being able to use it, all he could do was writhe in place. 'You're not taking me, you hear! Not like-'
It was then that the shock, pain and fatigue overwhelmed Sandu. His body went limp, his eyes rolled back and with a final groan Sandu took a literal dirt nap.
“Sandu,” questions Dormark as he sees the man panic and pass out. “It is like he never seen a bugbear before,” he says scratching his head but he shrugs and picks up the man cradling him in his arms. “Oh Ioben this is Galqarin he his a bugbear, but he doesn’t seem to be the a bad one. He is heading toward the camp as well, so he will be accompanying us down the road. Nothing the trap he says to Baern, “See if you can pull that off the tree we can make a little bit of gold from it.”
Valerie - Ismark casts a look at Ireena, "We should go and check whether the other's are alright. It's never a great idea to stray too far into the Svalich Woods, they may be in peril."Ireena nods,"Agreed", she turns to Valerie,"lead the way Val!"
As you cast your eye around the crossroads you notice all bar one raven has disappeared - a familiar blue-tipped wings raven.
Additionally, you are sure that the area of the woods the rest of the party entered now has a thicker layer of fog/mist covering it / obscuring it. You are unsure if you would have been able to identify their entrance had you left it much longer. It is almost as though the woods has swallowed them up.
"Don't worry Sandu, he's ni.... " begins Baern before the warlock passes out.
"Ooh, right!"replies Baern regarding the available trap. Still a bit salty about the lack of value his coin and gem seemed to hold here in Barovia, the young dwarf isn't actually sure whether the trap should fetch an inflated sum such as 100g, or would be worth nothing at all in this strange place. Either way, metal was very valuable with Dormark around.
Baern kneels in front of the trap, pulls of his pack, and fishes out a crowbar and small hammer. With help from his hairy new friend he tries to break the lock.
Galqarin holds the crowbar in place over the padlock as Baern comes crashing down with his hammer. With a mighty CRUNCH the lock effortlessly breaks open. The trap, complete with chain, are now easily collectable..
Baern smiles at his potential new friend and enthusiastically says "thanks!" He nods to Dormark and secures the trap onto the outside of his pack, in the closed position, of course.
Valzes leads both Ismark and Ireena to the direction which the party left. "Stay as close as possible. The fog is getting thicker now."
While walking in, she tries to strike up a conversation so they can know where each other is. "I see the raven again... Do you think it is Strahd’s scout? ... or Strahd himself?"
"Good work you two. We should head back to the road and head to the camp. We don't want to be camping in the woods alone at night... at least that that is the feeling of the place I'm getting," says Dormark cradling the limp Sandu, he heads back toward the road.
Ireena considers Valerie's words, "I am not sure whom they serve, but I must admit it puts me at ill-ease. If they were friendly then why would they not reveal themselves."
She looks questioningly at her brother,"Ismark, what do you make of them?". Ismark furrows his brow,"In truth I am not sure of their intent. Maybe we should consider a way of scattering them or putting them off our trail?"
Valerie, it does not take your group long to locate and join up with the others.
Upon seeing Sandu's state Ireena exclaims,"Sandu! Oh no! What happened? Is he well?"
Ismark, more pragmatically, scans around the woods,"We should not stay in this place too long. Straying too far from the main road is never a good idea in Barovia."
“He is alright though he ran into a bear trap on accident, I didn’t take a close look at it, but the wound looked properly dress I think by Ioben. Also this Galqarin a bugbear, from what I can tell he isn’t a bad person,” says Dormark to Ireena.
Dormark hesitates at Galqarin’s offer, but then says ,“I’m not sure how Sandu would react being carried by a stranger. At least he knows me and trusts me a little bit. Thank you for your offer, but This isn’t the first time I carried a body for some distance.”
(Sandu isn’t a super tall and heavy person is he? When I imagine him, I imagine him as a shorter very skinny fellow.)
Valerie quickly glances at the Bugbear and nods to him, then walks over to Sandu. She kneels down and inspect his wound. She says to Dormak. "Let me have a look. I might be able to help him."
She inspects the wound. "Alright." She puts her hand on Sandu's wound. Radiant energy emits from her body for a moment then flows to the wounds. "That’s all I can help. It won’t fully close the wound, but at least it will ease your pain, so that you might be able to walk."
(I cast 2 point of Lay on Hand for Sandu. Hope it will help him walk.)
Valzes would see a seven foot tall, yellow-eyed, hairy beast that creeps through the shadows as quietly as a cat. It is dressed in ragged common clothes, britches held up by string.

Hearing Galqarin mention the woods after dark, Baern too looks up at the sky. "Can you walk, Sandu? Maybe we should get out of here..."

> Noting the trap he says to Baern, “See if you can pull that off the tree we can make a little bit of gold from it.”
Eager to prove himself of assistance, Galqarin will try to help Baern to release the trap.
After checking the heavy chain attached to the trap it appears to loop around the nearby tree and be held in place by a rusted padlock.
Baern - Should you wish to break the lock, can you make a strength check with advantage due to Galqarin's assistance.

"Me carry your friend?", suggests Galqarin, aware that the metal man is already weighed down with weapons, armour, shield and pack.
(and not at all because of Sandu's likely reaction to awakening to find he is being carried off by a bugbear!)
“He is alright though he ran into a bear trap on accident, I didn’t take a close look at it, but the wound looked properly dress I think by Ioben. Also this Galqarin a bugbear, from what I can tell he isn’t a bad person,” says Dormark to Ireena.
