Sandu - At your command the ravens fly off on to the nearby rooftops; a fleeting image pops into your head of a silver-feathered raven, it's eyes briefly meeting with your familiar's before it flies off.
Still lying splayed on the ground in front of Sandu, Yeska looks up and winces slightly as he accepts the staff. "They are your birds." The words came as a statement more than a question. "Thought they were after me, I did." Though the boy seems afraid you get a sense of a deeper resolve as he attempts to stand on his clearly injured ankle.
((Yeska))
"My name is Yeska, sir." He starts when standing, he fidgets a little and struggles to make eye contact. "Please sir... If ya don't mind me askin'... Please don't do to me as was done to Mili." Tears start to fall down his face,"I didn't mean to do nothin' sir. Neither did Mili - he told me..."The boy ends his sentence prematurely, remembering a promise once made. "I'll go with ya, to see Father Lucian."He says, defeated.
Yeska hobbles forward next to Sandu, after a way he speaks up,"You promise? You promise I'm not in trouble. You're not going to do any foul magics on me sir? I saw with the birds - jus' now - magicked them out of nothin'."there is a note of amazement in his voice. "I jus' has one question..." You watch as Yeska plucks up all his courage, though his words come out as a sob, "Why hurt Mili?"
Sandu briefly scanned the sky when the silver feathered raven popped in his view - the ravens' view? - but turned his attention back to the kid he was supporting when the boy said something.
'They're my familiars.'Sandu replied. 'I- uhm, that was the first time I called them. Guess I don't quite have a handle on them yet 'cause I only intented for them to find you and nothing more. That's on me, sorry. I'm a wizard.'That last statement was said in such a manner as if it explained everything.
Sandu spotted Ioben and waved him over. The kid seemed to have some rapport with him - Maybe because he didn't attack him with a bunch of black feathered birds - but he was glad the half-elf vouched for him. Yeska responded with a stream of sentences to Ioben's kindness, nearly tripping over his own words, but he said enough for Sandu to put the pieces of the puzzle together.
'Yeska, what you did was foolish but understandable.' Sandu spoke with the voice of experience. 'But if you've been learning with Father Lucian, you must know that by removing Saint Andral's earthly remains from his burial site, that holy place got desecrated. As Milivoj is the one who committed the deed, he has beared the brunt of that act.'
He shifted his weight a little bit to take the pressure off his right foot and continued along. 'Now the good news is that such a fate is usually reversible by simply returning the bones to their rightful place with the proper rites.' He glanced down from the corner of his eye at the boy. 'I learned that from my books.' He winked.
It was not a complete lie: Sandu did know of such things by reading about them. But the boy need not know that book in question was a knight's adventure book for children rather than a wizard's spellbook. With how the boy mentioned his letters, he hoped it would put him a bit more at ease.
'We will aid your friend Milivoj as best we can.'Sandu reassured the boy. 'I promised Father Lucian I would help and I intend to keep that promise.'
To that end Sandu directed his gaze upwards to where the three raves were flying and hopping along.I need you to- oh right: I better give you names. Pepi,Sandu mentally reached for the first raven, I want you to search for a young man. Pale, listens to the name Milivoj. He remembered the scene at the crypt. Probably carries a shovel. DO NOT ATTACK HIM, just follow and watch him. Koki, Sandu addressed the second raven, you go search for a metal man in town. He's with a short man and a hairy ape. DO NOT ATTACK THEM, just watch them. They are friends. Be nice. Zazi,Sandu named the third and final raven, you just follow along with me and keep watch from above. Warn me if someone or something approaches.
Sandu felt a corner of his backpack poke him slightly in the side, making him recall something. Be good and I'll have a treat for you later. He finished his instructions with the mental image of a sly grin.
OOC: decided to colour Sandu's inner thoughts for clarity.
Sandu - Yeska wipes his eyes and looks at you questioningly. "He removed the remains?"He says, shocked,"I thought there was treasure down there. Why would he want the remains? They worth money?" He looks relieved when you mention that any curses are reversible,"I jus' want things to return to normal." He trudges alongside both you and Ioben as you return to the orphanage.
Your raven-familiars take off into the overcast, mist-filled sky, seeking to undertake their respective tasks.
Valerie - "Milivoj is inside - not sure where they put him. They didn't want 'im around the rest of us... in case what he 'ad spread to all of us. You wan' ta see the headmistress... she'll probably be all nice to you, she always is to adults." You note a level of disdain in his voice when talking about the Orphanage's headmistress.
((Edit: Going to change up some of the font colours - they're a little hard to read!))
"Maybe, but maybe we should stop by the church. I would like to hear the Father's opinion and treatment of Sandu's injury, or if Sandu put if off. Either way why don't we stop by the church," says Dormark.

Having returned to the orphanage, Sandu kept going with the boy in tow to the Church. He gave a head nod to Valerie when they passed her.
'Kid had a nasty fall.'Sandu at least had the decency to look guilty. 'I'm taking him to see Father Lucian, get that ankle healed.'
Before he crossed the street, Sandu looked over his shoulder at the paladin. 'We are looking for a young man named Milivoj. Local gravedigger, pale, might be sick.' He said to her. 'Once Yeska is tended to, we should look for him.'
With that said, Sandu used his free arm to push open the church's door. Before he stepped inside, he looked up to see if he could spot something familiar before crossing the threshold. He let Yeska slide off his shoulder onto a pew and called for Father Lucian.
Ioben continues to walk with Sandu and Yeska. Curses and magic were not his area of expertise. Usually he did as much as he could to stay away fromthem. There was a huge difference between the slight of hand he practised and the magic he had seen since being here.
Inside the chapel, he helped Yeska sit in the pew. Ioben sat down beside him, trying to help him remain calm. "Father Lucien will be able to take care of this I am sure. You may need to take it easy for a day or two, but you will be fine. Any idea where Mili may have gone to?"
As the party re-enter the church Father Lucian, standing in the door to his office, greets them. His face pales a little when he see's an injured Yeska,"A chat?! You said you would just talk!"For a man advanced in years you can a younger, more youthful, cold fury take hold."Pray tell - how does one get injured from talking?!"
Yeska looks up at the Father, guilt keeping his head down until this point,"No Father, you don't understand... I ran an' slipped."The Father looks questioningly at the young lad, "What is the meaning of this? Yeska?"
The boy rubs his arms, self-soothing,"I... I know about the secret stairs,"he blurts out. "I see..." Lucian says, clearly upset by Yeska's admission. "This is a very serious matter. Saint Andral's remains must be restored to their resting place. Who knows what might befall Vallaki in the meantime." He looks with pity upon the boy, "But if anything, the fault is mine. Years have created a complacency with me. It would only be natural for a young lad to be curious... Where are the remains Yeska?" He turns to Ioben,"You mention Milivoj - you know for sure that he is involved?"
Once more Yeska looks up and addresses the question, "He's sick Father. Currently he is bedridden in the Orphanage. Ms Belasco said it's jus' a cold, but I think... I think it's 'cause of what he done." Father Lucian moves to his desk and sits down, attempting to make sense of the situation. "I cannot see how removing the remains would have an adverse effect on the lad. Unless..." he strokes his chin absentmindedly.
Turning to the group the Father looks apologetic,"I am sorry to involve you in all this. Please can you look further into the matter? You must use caution, for I fear for what evil may triumph should the remains go unfound."
With that the Father stands and helps Yeska to a spare room containing a bed, to the left of the entrance to the church, "In the meantime I shall see what can be done about Yeska here."
The Blinsky's Toys Group - Baern, Dormark & Galqarin
As you walk down the Vallaki streets towards the church, the inclement weather seems to have kept most of the locals in their houses, as the streets seem pretty empty. It does not take you long to reach the church.
No sooner than you arrive at the doors to the old, stone building, then you see the rest of your adventuring party exit. Any paying close attention will note that Sandu's eye is now completely healed and free from injury. Otherwise the mood of the party appears pretty sombre.
Looking up at the tall, likely masked Galqarin the dwarf says sincerely "thank you my friend."
"I wonder what's wrong with them"wonders Baern aloud a the trio approaches the church. Seemingly in a much more hopeful mood than those who visited the church, Baern asks "what news from you all?" "Ireena is ok right? She's safe now?"
"Sandu, shall we head over to the orphanage and check in on Mili? He needs to tell us where he took the remains." Ioben turns to Yeska, "You are safe here. Don't run off again." Then with a little bow to the front of the church, Ioben turns and starts toward the orphanage.

"Sandu, shall we head over to the orphanage and check in on Mili? He needs to tell us where he took the remains." Ioben turns to Yeska, "You are safe here. Don't run off again." Then with a little bow to the front of the church, Ioben turns and starts toward the orphanage.
"Glad to see you better Sandu, was the father able to help you," asks Dormark.
Sandu watched the good reverend lead the boy away. He was glad Lucian did not further inquire just how the boy had slipped but both of them seemed to be more at ease now. Which left Sandu and the others to follow up on what Yeska had told them.
'Yes, let's.' He motioned to Ioben. 'I'm actually curious as to what ails this Milojov. You would not think a saint and a holy paladin to be the kind to put curses on people after their death.'
He gave a sideway glance to Valerie. 'Would they?'
Sandu exited the church along with the others. Once outside he nearly bumped into the metal frame of Dormark. He might no longer be half blind but he really needed to start paying more attention to his surroundings. Dormark asked how his eye was.
'As good as it always was.'Replied Sandu. He even pulled down his eyelid to accentuate. 'Father Lucian is gifted in the art of healing.'
He turned his attention to Baern when he heard the dwarf pose some questions. 'Speaking of: Lucian has asked us to check something. Someone stole the bones of Saint Andral from this church and we have strong reason to believe the culprit is sick or cursed,' Sandu paused for a second to let the word hang in the air, 'because of it. We were about to go find him.'
He pointed his thumb behind him. 'Ireena and Ismark are in the church. Once we return the bones to their rightful place, our hope is that the church will once more be a safe haven from the things that go bump in the night.'
He directed the thee newcomers' gaze to the orphanage across the street. 'That's where we're heading. You're free to come along but... Uhm...'
Sandu sheepishly scratched the back of his right ear. 'I- euh, I already scared one kid by accident by my lonesome self. I don't know how people around here are going to react when six strangers bust down the door and accuse a sick man of graverobbery.'
Sandu crossed the street and headed for the orphanage's front door. Meanwhile he reached out mentally to his familiars. Pepi, keep an eye on the church. Koki, you watch the orphanage. Zazi? He hoped to hear from the third one.
Baern listens to Sandu and remarks "oh, well, hmmm, I'm going to Krezk to, ah, well to try to find my mother, and Dormark and Galqarin said they'd come with me." "I was hoping you all would too." He hestitates for a second before continuing "but if something must be done for Ireena to be safe first, I can help."
'Yes, let's.' He motioned to Ioben. 'I'm actually curious as to what ails this Milojov. You would not think a saint and a holy paladin to be the kind to put curses on people after their death.'
He gave a sideway glance to Valerie. 'Would they?'
Valerie turns to Sandu. "They might've had a reason." She pauses for a moment. "Paladin acts differently depending on how they swore an oath." "I can't say why one would do that, but I believe that must be a reason behind that."
Sandu sheepishly scratched the back of his right ear. 'I- euh, I already scared one kid by accident by my lonesome self. I don't know how people around here are going to react when six strangers bust down the door and accuse a sick man of graverobbery.'
"Maybe we don't bust the door down then. 'Honey catches more flies' they say. I don't know about you, but I am genuinely concerned. For this kid, for this town, hell, for myself. If we go in and offer to help we will probably get a better response." Ioben walks with the group, though he tends to stay closer to Sandu. They had just dealt with Yeska together, and it felt like they needed to see this through.
