A blood-covered Mica drops the darkness spell surrounding the cavern, and profusely apologizes to Torrga. The fight had been concerning, but Mica feels strangely comforted by the ferocity of the allies he's picked up along the way. The spells he had cast tired Mica out, but he still drags himself towards the corpse of Sephek, and lets his arm do its work. He needed an upgrade, anyway, but those of you looking closely notice the disfigurement has spread up to Mica's neck. He mentions that the party should probably get out of there - killing 5 people would likely put them in bad standing with the townsfolk, to put it lightly.
"Now Mica, dont apologize to Torrga. For all we know they're a Auril worshipping piece if garbage just like the rest of them" The gith would say as he moves his spectral weapon towards the merchant. "It is hard to believe that you wouldnt notice literally everyone your traveling with worshiping Auril.. killing folks in every town you visit..." Rak would say as he shakes his head. "Tsk tsk tsk" He mutters as he drops the blade of his greatsword along the neck of Sephek. "Now... We could over look this you know. I bet if you gave us one of those dog sleds... we could take all these corpses and a few of your goods of course.. and disappear. It will be like you were never involved with the serial killer... and all of Ten towns doesnt need to know." Rak would finish as he picks up the head of Sephek before tossing it to Mica. "Proof we killed Sephek" He says coldly.
There are a small number of townsfolks eyeing you all very suspiciously, their expressions are hard to read due to the amount of fur around their heads. Torrga begins closing shop as quickly as she can, as if leaving is her top priority.
Some sort of minutemen militia appears to be gathering. Do you all linger or flee? If you stay, you are sure to be arrested or attacked. The townsfolk don't take kindly to having people slaughtered in town - obviously, they don't know what you all are doing.

Mica catches the head and addresses the crowd gathering around the group. "We were hired to find a serial killer!" he loudly mimics in Rak's voice. "Sephek is doing the Frostmaiden’s work!" he repeats from a while back. He points to Torrga, and shakes his head, implying he doesn't know if she has anything to do with Sephek's business. He'll talk to her later. He's not sure she had anything to do with it, and he still feels anger at himself for murdering four - as far as he can tell - innocent guards.
Persuation / Deception - 24 + Bane's blessing - 3
While he's doing that, his white arm is absentmindedly flaying the head. Mica's unaware of it, but he’s gotta pay the taxes to his patron in one way or another.
While Mica is talking, Rak looks up to the men gathering. He would quickly dismiss the spectral greatsword above Torrga and address them. "The bird man is right" Rak would say as he crouches down and begins to strip the headless corpse of weapons and valuables. "We explained the situation and gave him the opportunity to surrender but they attacked us... It was self defense." Rak says as he finishes securing anything of value on Sephek's headless corpse. He would then look over to the kenku and shake his head. "Hey! Dang it Mica your messing up out proof damn it!" the gith would grumble as he face palms hard
As Torrga starts to scream Rak stands up and scowls at her. "You really are an Auril worshipping murderer Too!" The green skinned elf would say as he draws his greatsword and points it towards Torrga.

Kilmus steps away from the scene of carnage, holding his blade out and parallel to his body.
'Hold on, hold on. We were executing a lawful order to arrest a killer, a killer who confessed his crimes in front of this woman - a woman who knowingly brought this killer into your midst, endangered your families and your children. We have brought justice here and peace to the Ten Towns.'

Rak:"I have no idea what you're talking aboot!"she yells. "Murderer!"

"Lawful order, eh. Prove it, and we'll let you go! No tricks now! We have enough problems around here without adventurers causing trouble!"one militiaman yells out.
All blades are pointed at you guys. One false move WILL MEAN a bad ending.
Kilmus carefully and slowly lowers his blade, deliberately grounding it in a sign of careful submission to authority
'We've taken his head to bring back to Good Mead, as proof of his death and to claim a lawful bounty on him. He admitted he was in service to the darkness and was the killer. My friend here' the shepherd gestures to Mica 'is a Kenku - are you all familiar with them? They have no speech of their own, they can only repeat what they've heard, but they can mimic it perfectly. Mica here heard the confession from Torga's bodyguard, heard him confess in his own voice'
Phineas eyes the militia members, sighing and muttering under his breath. Seeing Kilmus lower his weapon, the halfling sheathes his twin swords, but keeps his hands ready in case they are quickly needing again. His anger, though, fades as he begins to look over Sephek's body and the researcher in him takes over. "Ain't it odd how he was able to withstand the cold," he mutters to no one in particular. "A dark pact I'd bet."

Mica nervously approaches, opens his beak, and proceeds to mimic, wrapping his rogue arm in a cloak to prevent it from moving. Mica is worried that the word of Kenku hasn’t reached the North, so he mimics some words by Kilmus and the townsman as an example. He points to Rak. "We were hired to find a serial killer. We have been instructed to track you down because there is reason to believe that you are the killer.“ He then points to the remains of Sephek, mimicking in his loudest voice. “There will be no talk. I am the killer. As for you arresting me, you can certainly try, but I will not come with you. I do Auril's will. Men!"
(Mica grants the ‘Help’ action to Kilmus with whatever he can do. I’m assuming channel divinity is up, so I’ll leave the rolls to you.)
Kilmus turns back to the militia men, making eye contact with as many of them as possible as he speaks, moving his gaze from person to person in a slow and deliberate fashion.
'We declared ourselves, told him to surrender, I myself called on him multiple times to throw down his weapons, to surrender himself. He did not, and instead attacked us and drove home his strikes to try to kill us to escape justice and flee into the dark and the cold.'
Turning and casting his voice to carry he address the men towards the back
'We mean you no harm - in fact, we came here to protect you and your families. Please take the evidence we have presented here and let us return to Good Mead with evidence of our task complete and sleep safer in your beds tonight'
Rak would nod in agreement. "See for yourself. He wore no winter clothing and his eyes glowed blue when he attacked us. I offered to talk with him inside the tavern and discuss the charges against him and he chose to attack us instead. You all should be thanking us instead of drawing your weapons on us." Rak would say. before looking to Mica. "The serial killer confessed to the murders and confessed to worshipping Auril. Torrga here is trying to cover her own ass since she has been traveling with the band of Auril 3murderers this whole time." The goth would then look to Torrga. "If she were innocent and wasnt a member of their murderous gang, she would tell you all what really happened here." He would add before turning to Mica. "You're good with remembering words. Tell them about our mission. The mission we took to catch Sephek.. or tell them what Torrga first said once the fighting was over and she crawled out from under her caravan where she was hiding instead of helping to fight the murderer...Guess I need a new bodyguard and help.... Is what she said.. Hardly the response you would have if you just watched innocent men be killed... but it would seem appropriate of the men were evil murderers... Right?" Rak would ask his companions and the crowd
Mica proceeds to repeat the entire conversation, beginning with the instruction of their mission from the Dwarf in Goodmead, all the way to a picture-perfect audio recording of the conversation before, during, and after, their encounter.

LOL. 23 beats a 20, though, even if it's a nat20.
Excellent RP. Just excellent. Everyone gets an inspiration point.
The militiamen grumble and back down. Eyeing you carefully, they slowly disperse and disappear back into the buildings they emerged from. For sake of reality, they post a few guards near you, and won't let you do anything to Torrga, so any violence towards her will result in arrest.
They do, however, believe your story and allow you to leave with your evidence. Unless there is any other business here, decide where to head to next. Once you return to Hlin in Good Mead, the quest will be complete.
After making sure to take anything of value from Sephek before also taking anything of value from the four guards... Rak would stand with the group. "Good work all around everyone. I would have preferred the head still have a face on it... Mica..." Rak would say while looking to the kenku. "but I got his weapons and some of his fancy clothes if your skull his isn't enough. I guess I could also scrape up some of the face bits out of the snow... although I might have to PUT THEM TOGETHER LIKE A PUZZLE DAMN IT MICA WHAT IN THE HELLS!" Rak would reply as he rubs the sides of his head. He would take a few deep breaths and hold up his hand for a moment. "I don't think we're probably welcome to stay much longer in town so I guess we better start heading back towards Good Mead. Unless you all have any better ideas?" He would ask looking towards each of them. He would then point at Mica and then allow his finger to drift down towards the kenku's arm. "We're going to have to talk about that thing at some point... you're starting to look like a plucked turkey" He would say as his finger moved up and pointed to the new section of skin above Mica's arm where the feathers had fallen away.
