 The little chick eventually pecks its way free of its shell and struggles out, peeping away as it flops onto its side and gains its bearings.
"That's a good, strong voice. I think you got quite lucky, boy." Grimbuld says, standing behind him so that the chick does indeed see Hyre's face first.
"That's a fine bird. I hope you weren't planning on sleeping any time soon, though." he adds, giving a wry chuckle.

Thankfully, the diet that the chick will be living on is readily available at the inn; the rats in the pantry's traps are plentiful and as long as Hyre cleans them out afterwards, Hana allows Hyre to use the meat grinder to turn them into baby chick mincemeat. It's disgusting, but that's parenthood.

Aelar nods.  Well, that makes sense.  Let's see who wants to come with us.  Hyre's got his egg, so he's probably going to want to stay.  Tomorrow , I'll go and ask Sister Daar and Barna.  I''ll ask Kallista tonight, and speak with Lazlo and Hyre tomorrow, also.  Also, Mr. Grimbuld and Sir Geoffrey.

Turning to Kallista, he says, softly so only she and Raia can hear, "Raia says we can do the ritual of bonding whenever, but she wants to do it with her kin, who're about a day away by kite.  That's partly so she can introduce me to them, maybe drum up some support for us, and partly so she can maybe get some help with her inability to shape change. I'd love for you to come, all of you.  I'll talk to the others tomorrow.  What do you say?  Or do you need some time to think about it?"

((Roger that! I've been feeling a bit under the weather so I'm okay if we take a break for a couple days or so. Like, literally under the weather. I have severe spinal stenosis and it flares up whenever the weather does something silly and we're getting hit with the remnants of Ida so I'm strung out on painkillers till it chills out.))

Stay safe and be well. We didn’t get hit bad but a few states south of us had some real tragedies.

((I just need a couple more days to get my head on straight. Full transparency, I'm waiting to get an MRI on a lump. It's PROBABLY nothing? I'm not really old enough to be really worrying about cancer and I'm overall pretty healthy despite my spinal stenosis, but cancer has wiped out most of my family... so it's better to be extra cautious about this sort of thing (which is also why I've been getting colonoscopies since I turned 30.) and be wrong then figure 'eh, it's nothing to worry about' and really regretting it later.

Why's this keeping me down? I have a pretty severe anxiety disorder as well... like, it's not that I'm sitting in a corner rocking in the fetal position, it's that my BODY will manifest stress symptoms that I can't control, and it makes me feel pretty crappy.))

"Well, of course I want my sister there," Aelar says with amused exasperation.

((I've just about got my head on straight again, will get back to it soon! Thanks for your patience. I mean, I know WHY the anxiety spiked so badly this time, but damn, it just didn't want to let me go and like, live normally. It's not so much the anxiety itself, I can more or less control that, it's how my body reacts to stress; my skin starts peeling, I get blisters on my fingers, heart palpitations, night terrors, the whole spectrum of misery.))
