(Oh man, a WINGED ranger? That would be broken as hell XD "Hey, guess what? Because I'm shooting downwards, my range is UNLIMITED! You better hope I run out of arrows, suckers!" Also thank you :3 I cranked that pic out pretty quickly 'cause I was excited to be a player for the first time in years.)
(That's 1 success for gaining the survival skill for Lazlo too, but keep in mind, they will both be working for at least a couple of hours making the bow; the most time consuming part, mind you, is making the notch for the string to go into and carving the branch into the right shape so it's balanced and won't shoot 10 feet off to the side by default because the middle part is too thick.)
The centaur looks to Kallisa, then to Aelar.
"She SPOKE to you?" she asks, looking at him intently for a few moments.
She doesn't speak on that any more, though. Judging by her reaction, though, it looks like she knows something about that.
When she's addressed by Lazlo, she appears flustered.
"Oh, um, I'm Kina, of the Shirehoof. I'm sorry, I'm not used to... casual conversation. Usually I'm just being insulted or being referred to as 'plow girl', so... I understand what it feels like to be 'different', Kallista." she says
"Apprenticeship is going to take a lot of hard work, and once you do find someone willing to take you on, it's not a commitment you can just back out of... not to mention the EXPENSE. Be sure you know what you want to do. You might not even want to stay in Guiston." she adds. "But I... don't think you'll be able to go back to Hon. At least, not now... I'll bring that matter to the Guiston guard master myself. If the Skell are pushing in as close as Hon, Guiston needs to be made ready for an attack. Hopefully, they'll send some kite scouts to see what remains. They might even be able to secure the town, should you want to try and go back. I'll just... leave out the part where I smuggled you in past the gate. I'll say I 'met some survivors of the attack'. That's true enough."
Kina's attention is turned towards the centaurs quickly overtaking them who intentionally run too close to the cart and kick up a huge dust cloud as they thunder by, all the while making rude remarks.
"Hah! Look, she's giving them a ride! You going to breastfeed them too?"
"If you hurry, you might make it to Guiston by WINTER!"
"Why not just wear a saddle, twofoot lover!"
Kina coughs into her arm as she steers the cart off the road and out of the dust cloud, slowing to a stop as she does.
"I'd like to hear that song when you're done, Lazlo." she mutters.

"I'm willing to put in the effort," Kallista says, "I don't really have anywhere else to go at this point. Can't go back to Hon. Can't go home..." when the centaurs start taunting her, "and here I thought that having wings, horns, and a tail would mean that I'd be the one everyone picked on... sorry you have to go through all that. They're not worth it."
((Ya, a winged ranger, with her drake she can summon XD)

" I agree with Kallista, they really suck. As far as the song goes, I'll think while I work, lady" Lazlo says "and it will be ready before we part ways". Lazlo returns to the task at hand "things that rhyme with jackass... Ha! there's like a zillion things!"

Responding to Kina and Kallista. "Yes, she spoke to me and I have no idea why. It was wonderful, though." He reaches into that place inside, sending gratitude and acceptance and all the strength he can to their distance and injured benefactor.
Aelar nods his agreement. "My father had a saying about bullies, Kina. The louder they shout, the less they are. As far as I can hear, they," he thrusts his chin at the other centaurs, "shout pretty loud."
His face darkens at the breastfeeding comment and, before he can bite back the retort, he shouts, "Why do you ask? Need a little comforting suckle so far from home?" He'd always hated bullies.

Lazlo rolls on the bed of the wagon, holding his sides and snorting in laughter. "Good one"

The herd comes to a sudden stop.
"What did you just say to me, you two-footed little SHIT?" the centaur says. It's not Halgrave, but one of the others who made the breastfeeding crack. He's not nearly as big as Halgrave, but he certainly looks strong enough. The rest of the centaurs fall in behind the one who's taking the offensive.
"Back off, Jerren!" Kina says, unbuckling herself from the cart and advancing.
The move gets spears drawn and pointed at her from the rest of the herd.
"That's not how we do things, plow-puller. He made the remark, he gets put in his place." Jerren says, taking off his simple armour, and handing off his bow and spear to one of his fellows.
"This is why two-footers aren't worth it. These little beggars come to US for help, then have the GALL to be ungrateful. Give us some room!" Jerren says, and the rest of the herd form a semi-circle around the cart.
"Just the two of us, little peck. Or are all two-footers like the chickens they raise?"

'Oh, no..." Lazlo thinks, standing up with a sinking feeling "This won't end well". "Jerren, is it? For it to be a fair fight you should at least bind two legs and lose three hundred pounds. IF we're so much lower than you in the grand order of things how could we offend you? "Those who cannot affront cannot offend" or do you take offense from babies and the elderly as well?!" oh my mouth. We're dead- Lazlo thinks.

"Wait!" says Hyre as he steps in front of his friends, standing between them and the centaur. "We don't have to fight." He says that to both the centaur and the group. "None of us will gain anything from such behaviour. Why don't we just forget the matter and keep going? You're not going to hear any of us ever again once we get to Guiston anyway." Then, after a moment: "But if you do insist on fighting, I do not care about your pride. I won't watch my friend fighting alone when I can help."
Varielky
"I mean if you were like, MY size I could watch you fight Aelar- I think it would be good sport and he'd have at least a fair chance of winning with those silversmithing arms of his. But you're like the size of a BARN, good man. Our friend took offense to you making sport of Kina, a member of your herd. Is that how you treat your own kind, slagging them off when they're doing their job? I was taught that Centaurs were strong- but it seems like you take quick sport picking on those weaker than you. You'll probably beat us to within an inch of our lives- or maybe even kill us but... We can't let our friend face a warrior like you alone." Lazlo steps down off the cart "I'm going to piss myself" he thinks..

Aelar looks at his friends and wishes he'd kept his mouth shut, but it was too late to back down now. He places himself directly before Jerren, though not disrespectfully close. "Please everyone, my comment, my pain. I can pay." He glances especially at Lazlo and Hyre, doing his best to convey his gratitude.
Looking up to Jerren, he says, voice remarkably steady. "This fine centaur, Kina, was generous enough to help us and all you can do is insult her? Fine. I offered one of my own. If that means you need to 'put me in my place', well, I'll consider it a price well paid. However, I'll be happy to apologize for my rudeness to you if you will apologize for your rudeness to her. If not, I guess you'll have to start the putting." Aelar did his best to keep his tone even and courteous, though not the least fawning or weak. Mother would be proud.

Hyre turns to Lazlo and Aelar. "You're not making this any better. Think before you speak, for the sake of all of us." He turns back to the centaur. "Please, fortgive them this time. I'll take full responsibility if they insult you again." His legs just barely hold him in place as every muscle in his body screams, wanting to dive out of the way and run. Despite that, he stands in his place between the centaur and the party.

“You’re right, Hyre. I didn’t think and I’m sorry about that. But you don’t get to take responsibility for me. I’m not a child, not anymore, none of us are. If there’s a price for my rash words, I will pay it.” He smiles at his friend. “Though I thank you so much for being willing too.”
He looks back at Jerren, waiting patiently.

Halgrave steps to the front of the semi-circle, his arms folded as he listens to Aelar's words.
"Kill? Please. That's not our way. We raised our spears to Kina because she is at the bottom of our ranks, and she dared to speak up to her better. You two-foots are NOT part of our herd, and were you older and less pathetic, we would have pushed you aside when you first asked US for help. You six were taken in on the weakness of one of our own, and how we address her is none of your business. Let this be a lesson to all of you about your place." he says.
Jerren is about to advance, but Halgrave stops him.
"No kicking. Either of you. When the two-foot can't get up, we'll consider this matter finished. Put him in the dust and be done with it, we have a schedule to keep... unless one of you wants to take his place, especially YOU, peck." Halgrave shoots a disgusted look over at Lazlo.
(And that's WITH the successful persuasion!)

“No one is taking my place. Let’s do this.”
Aelar sets himself for the fight...and beating.

Lazlo offers a gap toothed grin up "If you think it best, lord. I've taken a beating before but not from so noble a kind as your own" and bows as low as he can, attempting to manufacture a fart as he does.
