Balgrim
Not having anything to strike at the eel, Balgrim grabs the back of Leon's waistband, digs in his heels and holds on tight. "We may or may not be catchin' a big eel, but tha big eel be not catchin' ya if I ken help it!"
Gulgus Stormbrew - Dwarf, Druid (5), Circle of the Shepherd - Dreams Into Journey
Leon/Lazlo/Balgrim/Kallista:
With a combined effort, the group manage to pull in the eel. Kallista managed to shove that whittling knife right up into its eye socket, right as Balgrim and Leon pulled. It lays twitching on the ground, completely intact.
The group just managed to pull out what's known as an 'Oar snapper'. These things get to be almost 20 feet in length fully grown and are notoriously vicious and powerful for their size. Though the 'hole' is not an enormous body of water in circumference, it must be incredibly deep to have juvenile oar snappers in its waters... or it could be connected to an underground waterway, which is far more likely.
The beast weighs a good 60 pounds, hopefully some of its meat will make for good eating.
Bringing back their prizes, the group follow the signs to Goodwin Farm, where Kina is waiting for them.
"Oh my! That's quite the h-h-holy horsehoes, that's an oar snapper! And you got it clean! Well, aren't you lot just the best luck charms." she says, putting her hands on her hips.
"Well, let's not keep them waiting. You are going to make an amazing first impression with this!" she says.

Leon smiles as he helps haul the giant eel to Goodwin Farm. Responding to Kina, "She's a beaut, ain't she. Almost sent me flying into the river with her sheer weight. But..."
He points to his companions, Lazlo, Balgrim, and Kallista.
"By working together, we were able to wrestle her out of the water. Kallista even managed to kill it with a whittling knife! And now, we've got food for the foreseeable future. All in all, a good day of work."

Kina nods, inspecting the eel. "You didn't damage its liver. This is luckier than you realize. Oar snappers are top predators because of their ability to regenerate after horrific wounds. Unless you stab the brain or suffocate them on land, they'll just keep fighting. The liver of oar snappers can be used by alchemists to make healing salves and medicated bandages to close wounds in minutes. If properly smoked, I'd say a liver from one this size could be sold for maybe 2 gold pieces, if you're not getting swindled." she says, then blushes.
"Err... I got excited, sorry. I've been studying medicine for a while." she admits.
To Kallista, she pats her back. "They will be, but only some parts of an oar snapper are edible. They're tough little buggers so really, there's only so much meat you can get from them, and while the liver is useful for medicine, it tastes like licking the bottom of a shoe."
Kina looks about, and notices their number.
"Where are Hyre and Aelar?" she wonders.

Balgrim
Along the way back from the Hole, Balgrim contemplates the day. While they are still a long way from being in a good place, they've done quite well for themselves having started with nothing. He hopes Moradin has been as mindful of his other friends and as they walk he offers a prayer,
"For each new morn with its light,
For rest and shelter of tha noche,
For health and food,
For love and friends,
For everythin' ye goodness sends."
He spends the rest of the trip happy to be with friends in such trying times.

(I'll write that up, I was going to see if Hyre was going to respond to Barna's flirting.)
Kina notices Balgrim's prayer, and she bows her head, responding in kind, "kanayuthu". She winks at him. "I know a smattering of dwarven."
Barna accompanies Hyre and Aelar as they follow the signs too, to Goodwin farm. After Kina noticed their absence, Kallista and Balgrim spot the pair in the distance walking in with another in tow.
Barna sighs as she looks over to Aelar.
"Fine, you hold onto it for now, but I'll be back tomorrow. You have some silver pieces to spend. I doubt that those squat-potters are going to go ANYWHERE tomorrow. They'll be nursing hangovers or will probably be still chasing fairies come morning. Still... I'll be spending the night at sister Daar's mission, just in case." she says, and stops as she sees the gathering in front of the Goodwin farm.
"So this is where you're hunkered down, for now. There's more of you than I thought." she says, finally letting go of Hyre, satisfied he's not going to keel over.
"Thank you both. I won't forget what you two did for me tonight. You helped a complete stranger who even lied to you with nothing to give you but trouble. I'll make good on my promise of books." she says, looking down at her bare feet, looking like she's working up courage.
She walks up to Aelar with a tight hug, then turns and does the same to Hyre, adding a kiss on the cheek. She backs up, looking bashful, before she runs off into the night.
Kina says nothing, but folds her arms with a great big, knowing smile.

Balgrim
"Weeeelllllll now! What be this? It looks like someone went ta town and were as lucky as an unbutchered pig! If I dinna know better I wou say ye paid for tha favor, but ye dinna have tha coin," remarks Balgrim.

Aelar gives Balgrim and Kina a stern and disapproving look. "Please do not jump to such nasty conclusions. What happened is simple...well, maybe not simple...but nothing like that." He looks around to make sure no one else is in earshot.
ooc: Assuming the coast is clear
Then Aelar proceeds to tell them everything that happened, explaining about the criminals, the loot in the bag, the locket, everything. He then shows them the mark on his chest. The only thing he keeps back is Barna's true motives. He simply does not feel it's his place to share her dreams.
"So, nothing like that happened...though I do think she finds Hyre quite appealing," he says with a grin at his friend, before a yawn cracks his jaws. "I don't know about the rest of you, but after you tell your tale," he says with a meaningful glance at the eel, "I'd like to find a place to get some sleep and then, tomorrow, we can get ourselves some clothes, maybe."
Tandor the White, Human Life Cleric
Leon smiles and shrugs. Responding to Aelar, "It seems like you had quite a good time in town! The locket and the mark on your chest surely is strange. If we can find something trained in the arcana, perhaps they can figure out what's going on.."
He points at the eel. "I went fishing. This creature decided to bite the line. If it weren't for Kallista, Balgrim, and Lazlo, I would probably at the bottom of the lake."

Kina's smile doesn't last once she leans of what Aelar and Hyre have been doing away from the group. She takes a deep sigh and then walks forward to place her hands on their shoulders.
"I'm.... just glad you came out unharmed. No.... no lecturing. Nope. Not tonight. Tonight is a happy night. Speaking of silver pieces, I have another twenty to add to your total from my charter. You'll all have enough money to properly clothe yourselves, which will at least for NOW, allow you to pass as normal citizens. You'll want to rent a room or two at a tavern so you're not sleeping near people who will steal your new clothes right off your backs." she says.
"Come on, then, let's meet the Goodwins." she says.
The Goodwins are definitely an odd couple; a gnome and a goliath, but they live happily enough. Thomas Goodwin, the gnome, is more than happy to process the eel to eat. Edna the goliath separates the mushrooms into types and gets them cooking up in a pot. The arrival of a bumblebomb mushroom is an unexpected treat, and the group settles in for a hearty meal. There's good cheer and good food, the only damper on the evening being the telling of Hon and its fall. Kina reveals that she's going to be leaving the next day to inform the captain of the guard of Hon's fate. She projects that she'll be gone for at least a week afterwards while she assists with the investigation, as it'll be too dangerous for the kids to go back. She does promise, however, to take her cart and bring as many supplies from their homes as she can, if the town is still standing as it was left.
"I hate to leave you six, but ... you're more resourceful than I give you credit for. I'm sure you'll do just fine until I return." she says during the meal.
"Speaking of, have you all thought about what you might do since you're here in Guiston? What interests you?"
DM, professional illustrator and comic artist, suffering from severe spinal stenosis, married, middle aged, and nerdy.
(Oof, missed the juicy part due to sleeping:/ Oh well.)
At this point, Hyre is at that state he's not processing anything that well. The adrenalin had held him strong for long, but now that's it's gone, he can barely stand. Added Barna's actions, which he'd be incapable to process even on a normal day, his gears pretty much broke for the day. 'People are strange' was his last thought before his legs finally betray him as he falls down to something that resembles sitting, though it doesn't look like a comfortable position. He's not exactly asleep yet, but he's not much better than a doll. The only thing he does is perceiving what's happening so that he could process it later when his mind is functioning again. He might be able to walk if someone supports him. Indeed it seems like the lack of sleep affects him more than the others.
(Also, I wrote this before I saw the message above, so think of it as if this happened while the party was speaking; before they met the Goodwins.)
Varielky
Lazlo could't believe their good luck. They were safe and fed- at least for now. He thought about the townspeople of Hon, and their uncertain fate sent a chill up his spine. Like these good people, they had adopted him. He vowed to find out what happened to them. "Stop it!" he thought "Don't sour this moment. You're here now- enjoy it. Who knows what tomorrow will bring?". Putting a smile on his face he cleared his throat and addressed all of his friends. "I'd like to take a moment to thank our host and hostess- Thomas and Edna! May your days be long and your nights pleasant...but most of all I'd like to thank Kina. Without your help I don't know where we all would be! I promised you a song, before we parted and I only wish I could have sang it to him! The look on his face... I call this verse ‘Halgrave, the arrogant bastard son of a jackass’. Lazlo claps and stamps his hooves in time, inviting his friends to join in.
Halgrave was a bastard through and through
And arrogantly on the withered grass he’d chew
He’d trot along the fields until it was revealed,
That Halgrave was the the ugly foal of a jackass
Oh Halgrave was a bastard through and through
And so arrogantly proud of his bad hairdo
his admirers there were a’ plenty
Until they learnt his mom’s a jenny
Oh! Halgrave was an arrogant bastard son of a jackass!
Well Halgrave was a bastard through and through
And arrogantly on the withered grass he’d chew,
He thought himself a king, in each and everything
You think he’d have some tact,
Bein’ the foal of an unknown jack,
(Everyone Shouting) Oh! Halgrave was an arrogant son of a jackass!

(ooc: I can't catch a break with these rolls. I guess imagine his voice cracking and out of time- a real dumpster fire of a song.)
Catching his breath, Lazlo says " Thank you all for your generous spirit- we owe you more than you can imagine. As for my plans? I'd liike to find a minstrel who would train me to recite proper verses. I guess working in a tavern would be a start? I would imagine they don't train just anyone up- especially a nobody like me. But it's worth a shot? Thomas and Edna- I'm a hard worker despite my appearance and anything you need doing I'm up for. If you've any advice for a young lad like me, I'm all ears (sigh- especially after that sorry performance).

Balgrim
As Lazlo finishes his performance Balgrim bursts into applause, "Well done Laddie! Well done!"
Afterward, Balgrim will take the opportunity to inquire, "If there be work available I ken spend some time in service ta tha Goodwin's at tha farm. But do ye ken of any temples ta me ole dwarven gods around Guiston? I think I'd like ta volunteer me service when time permits."
Gulgus Stormbrew - Dwarf, Druid (5), Circle of the Shepherd - Dreams Into Journey
Kallista smiles a little at the song, "Very nice. I'm not sure what I'll do you. Forge some more maybe? Being around tends to put normal people on edge more often, so I'll just try to keep low profile."
