(I'll snag the copper and stink-bomb after pushing the goblinoid art-mag away with a stick)

Trying to think quickly, the only ways I can stop the blade coming down are to try to hit him with an Eldritch Blast or distract the goblin somehow... "F*ck it..." I'll ready an eldritch blast unless the first few in line manage a better solution...

Realizing how enclosed this area is, Carxus decides to play it careful and not set this whole place aflame.  He cast Magic Missile at the goblin.

Each of the three glowing dart hits the goblin for 4 damage each.

(OOC: This assumes the Goblin is still alive by the time my turn comes around.)

Lena struggles to see over her taller companions.

"Its no good I can't do anything from here." She thinks. Quickly thinking over her spells she settles on the only one that might be of some help with the situation. She reaches out to Carxus and casts Guidance on him.

Gerard, please give me a Dex Saving Throw, (d20 + your Dexterity Modifier) but since you're dashing you'll have advantage, so make sure you mark that when you roll.

Lena, your casting Guidance doesn't do much this round because Magic Missile isn't something you have to roll for, but Carxus, on you next roll, please make a note, you can roll a d4 and add it to your score.

OOC: Also, Happy Thanksgiving, all! I'll be around but I understand if you guys are busy. Thanks for making my first time DMing so fun! :)

(All of this happens in a few split seconds and almost all at the same time:

Gerard dashes past the entrance, running full speed towards the Goblin who is threatening to hurt Bess. As he does, a slew of arrows fly at him, missing him by inches. Gerard glances towards the area that was previously out of their line of sight and sees 4 goblins there who were trying to ambush the party.)

"Ambush!" he yells, to try to warn his friends.

(As he continues to run at the Goblin, Carxus' Magic Missile darts come flying past him and nail the Goblin with the sword right in the chest, all 3 at the same time, driving him back as he lands with a sickening thud, dead. He reaches Bess, who is covered in a cloak and has his back to him.)

"It's okay, Bess. Your dad sent us. We're going to get you home."

(Bess turns to face Gerard, removing the hood from her cloak...)

"My hero", she hisses, revealing a hideous little green Goblin face!

(Gerard is stunned as the 'Bess' Goblin stabs at him with a concealed dagger!)

Attack: 19 Damage: Unable to parse dice roll.

 (Gerard manages to dodge the dagger attack)

(Meanwhile, the rest of the party realizes what is happening and exits the corridor, finding themselves face to face with the 4 goblins who were trying to attack them. Nikta, who had readied her Eldritch Blast, hurls it at them, but misses high.)

4 Goblins Initiative: 13

'Bess' Goblin Initiative: 9

 (The Goblins are face to face with Carxus, Nikta, Lena and Lorys. They quickly reload their shortbows and let loose another arrow on each of them!)

Goblin 1 on Carxus:  10 Damage: 8

Goblin 2 on Nikta:  11 Damage: 7

Goblin 3 on Lena:  6 Damage: 6

Goblin 4 on Lorys: Attack: 24 Damage: 4

(They appear to have been very ready for this fight, as 3 of the 4 Goblin arrows hit their mark and wound our heroes! Carxus and Nikta take an arrow in the shoulder, Lorys takes it in the thigh, and Lena, who is the smaller halfling, manages to duck out of the way and dodge it completely!) 

 DM's Note: Wow, sorry guys, I didn't think they'd all roll so well. I guess it does make some sense since they were ready for you. We're going to consider everything before this a 'surprise' round, the Goblins already went, so it's Nikta's turn.

 Also, here's a little sketch to show you roughly what you were dealing with. You are now in the room facing the Goblins, btw.

Nikta reels back at the pain of the arrow now embedded in his shoulder and a rage builds inside as he braces and fires off another eldritch blast at the goblin that hit him, with a low mutter and seething eyes... and then head for the other side of the brazier for cover...

(Nikta clutches at his shoulder before throwing out another Eldritch Blast, but it misses! He runs for the cover of the brazier.)

(Meanwhile, the 'Bess' Goblin lets out another evil laugh as it takes another quick stab at Gerard.)

Attack: 21 Damage: 3

(The dagger manages to slash Gerard's arm, but not too badly.)

Lorys Tiebreaker: 15

Gerard Tiebreaker: 2

If it's obvious that this was just a trap then Gerard attacks the "Bess Goblin" with his rapier: Attack: 19 Damage: 8

In either case, Gerard moves back to the cover of the pillar in order to avoid being fired upon by the other goblins.

 

Lorys winces at the sharp pain of the arrow in her thigh and draws an arrow, aiming and loosing it at the goblin that shot her.

Attack: 19 Damage: 5

(Lorys aims and shoots at the Goblin that just attacked her, but the Goblin manages to deftly dodge out of the way.)

Carxus, you're up. 

Carxus grabs his wounded shoulder and shoots a Fire Bolt at the goblin that attacked him.

Attack: 23 Damage: 2

(Carxus shoots off a Fire Bolt and it hits the Goblin that went after him previously. It hits the Goblin in the arm, leaving a pretty nice burn mark. The Goblin curses but is still ready to fight.)

DM's note: Just to make sure the situation is clear, the two Goblins trying to trick the party are dead, but 3 of the ambush Goblins are standing and unhurt, and one other ambush Goblin is lightly wounded. Lena is up, then it's the Goblin's turn.

Lena is going to cast Produce Flame and chuck a fire ball at the wounded goblin. She then gonna try to head for cover.(She can only move 25 ft. so as close to the pillar as she can get.)

Attack: 24  Damage: 4

(The wounded Goblin's eyes look huge as the fire ball comes flying at him, hitting him square and leaving his body charred and lifeless. His little Goblin buddies recoil angrily and try to regroup as Lena runs to the pillar and manages to get cover. One of the Goblins seems to be very upset and tries to shoot Lena as she gets to safety. )

Goblin 1 shooting at Lena: Attack: 15 Damage: 3

(The arrow clangs off the pillar as Lena gets to the cover. The other 2 Goblins take a shot at the other 2 party members who are in front of them.)

Goblin 2 shooting at Carxus: Attack: 21 Damage: 5

Goblin 3 shooting at Lorys: Attack: 14 Damage: 6

 (Carxus manages to dodge the arrow, but Lorys is not so lucky, and takes another arrow right in the gut! Lorys is down and looks to be unconcious!)

Nikta, you're up. 

I'll run out from the brazier and try to get cover at the pillar, peeking out and casting burning hands, attempting to get all three of the goblins in the spray of the cone... 

Goblin's Dex Save: 21

(Nikta runs for cover and focuses his Burning Hands spell on attacking the 3 remaining Goblins. The Goblins are caught unaware, and all 3 of them are hit with sheets of fire. Their little screams fill the chamber as they are burned, their skin turning into black. The battle is over.)

DM's note: *fanfare* The battle is won, but not without sacrifice from your party. Just for reference, your First Aid kit would stabilize Lorys and keep her from permanent death. Feel free to look around the room, you can choose to take a short rest, whatever you want. Just let me know.
