His breath plumes out in front of him in a small gout of mist similar to if one talks when it is cold outside as frost crystallizes around his feet and staff. The gem at the top of his staff glows a brilliant blue as a pair of spectral jaws from some sort of great beast coated in glistening frost materialize in the air above one of the agressors. It opens and clamps down on one of the fleeing people with its razor sharp jaws before disappearing.

Ednyss was hoping to avoid harming anyone physically, but apparently the hooligans had something else in mind. He continues his charge towards the hooligans brandishing his war pick menacingly and as he runs, he touches his holy symbol again to send a blast of healing towards the bet-taker and shouts, "I said get out of here! But be careful when you back away this time!" If he manages to make it to the hooligans he swings his war pick at the nearest one, only attempting to knock him out. Otherwise, he sprints with all his might, attempting to make it into these hooligan's faces.

Ednyss’ healing word is in time, and the bet-monger, who had rolled down 5 or 6 stairs after being stabbed and robbed, opens his eyes, looking up at audience members, some of whom had reached out to stop his fall. Ednyss closes with the hooligans, strikes with his war pick at the one with the money bag, but the robber ducks out of the way, though tripping and falling into the seated audience members who in turn duck away, raising their arms to protect themselves. The other two disengage, one grabs the money bag from the fallen crook, and the two standing hooligans dash down the stairs, turn left and make it just to the archway, but are halted there by another security guard who bars their way. The third crook dashes after them, laughing at Ednyss and pointing deridingly at him as he runs, “keep your distance!”
You are now oriented as per this map. The diagonal lines are steep stairways. The black rectangles are exits to internal corridors, then out of the arena. Above each of them hangs a Jenghen banner, and likewise there are banners blowing in the wind at the top of the stadium.
Varielky makes it back to Benita and Bali, and she is now putting it all together. Either dark magic or poison must be at work against Bali and the others.
Benita, at Varielky’s words, turns to her ferociously, crazed with sorrow and anger. “You! This is your fault! You, who must WIN at any cost! WHAT DID YOU DO TO HIM!?!” And she leaps up and strikes at Varielky, and hits with her axe for 6 points damage.

I can handle these hooligans with the other guards. You should help her out."

With an expert motion Varielky has learned to appreciate, Benita twirls her axe and Varielky sees it flashing at her and expects to feel it slice across her neck. But Benita seems to grimace in pain and her axe swing misses. Kovalenko and an acolyte of Ellosh who is part of the crew, who administers healing during training, run out onto the field. Kovalenko is cursing and shouting. “BENITA, VARIELKY, STOP THIS--NOW!!” Benita seems oblivious. Kovalenko runs to Bali’s side, administering a healing potion which does no good. The acolyte examines Bali and the two men, in bitter astonishment, exchange words.
"I'd love to stop, but it's not exactly up to me here!" With that, Varielky tries to shove Benita on the ground once more. Still holding her so she wouldn't be able to get up. "We need to check that whatever has affected the others isn't in her too!"

Mittens tries to vault over the railing, but he ends up eating dirt when he lands. He quickly stands up and spits out a mouthful of sand as blood runs from his nose. He begins rushing towards the combat, and when he is in range, he shouts out, "Hey lady! You need to relax!" as he slams his staff into the ground under him and casts frostbite on her. He hopes that the cold from his spell will bring her back to her senses, or at least get her more easily subdued.

Benita should have kept her footing, and she should have been able to withstand Mittens’ spell, but she fails both saves. Varielky, who now sees Mittens, shoves Benita la Cass prone, and the beautiful Indallian fighter also takes 2 HP cold damage from Mittens spell. Surprised at this combined attack including a spell from an unknown assailant, Benita’s passion evaporates for a moment, and it being the only thing holding her up, she tries to stand but can only make it to hands and knees. Too involved in combat to notice before, Varielky sees she looks very pale, and her abdomen is spasming. Benita looks at Varielky with sudden understanding, her breath fast and shallow. “Help...me…”
Kovalenko and the priest of Ellosh, behind her, leave Bali and rush to her, and the Preist says, to Kovalenko, “I can save her.”
(OOC: Starting the next round, Varielky, make a CON save vs. DC20 against poison or take 1d8 per round for the next 8 rounds and be poisoned. Making the save reduces damage by 1/2.)
Ednyss strikes hooligan #2 and damages him but he’s still up. Hooligan #1 takes the money bag back, disengages and dashes through the arch, down a hallway where Ednyss sees there are two more guards running up, though flat-footed and without weapons drawn. The guards have heard the commotion and are coming up to see what’s happening.
Hooligan #2 shoves the guard prone, then (bonus action) disengages and runs through the arch.
Hooligan #3 attacks Ednyss and misses, then (bonus action) disengages and runs along with Hooligan #2.
Meanwhile, a group of 5 or 6 individual men and women in sections 11 & 12, who have been watching the action have stood and are also pursuing the Hooligans. “We won that bet! They’ve got our money!” A couple of others are moving toward the bet-taker.
Ednyss notes (OOC: with passive perception) that at least 3 brawls have broken out in other parts of the arena, but the other security guards seem to be handling things there. He sees four other guards near him who are just standing there watching, slackjawed. He also knows that there are 2 guards minimum at each arena gate, 4 at the main entry.
"Don't hurt her!" Varielky shouts at Mittens. When she notices Benita's condition, Varielky turns towards the priest. "Quickly! She needs help!" Not well versed in the workings of magic she turns to Mittens too. "Tiny warrior! Is there something you can do?" She also releases her grapple on Benita, convinced she snapped out of it.
(As far as I understand, she doesn't have to roll for this round, right? I'll throw a save in case I'm wrong though...)
As Mittens jobs up to the small group in the arena, he says, "Sorry. I saw her attack you, so I figured I should try to help somehow." He slides the last few feet to Benita on his knees, throwing up some sand into the air, as he says, "I have some some anatomical knowledge, but I have a friend who can heal." He looks up to the air above him and makes some gestures while whispering something under his breath. A few moments later, large, shimmering words that flash and change color rapidly fill a fifteen foot space in the air above him that say, HANIA, I NEED YOU DOWN HERE. He then turns back to himself the woman beside him and tries to help her. As he does, Pooky climbs out from one of his pockets and hope down on the ground. Despite being a stuffed cat toy, he knows enough medical knowledge that he can assist.He

Ednyss continues to give chase, and realizing that they may still be able to get away, he shouts at the other guards that are just standing around and tries to whip them into action. "Fools! Stop the hooligans! They attacked a guard and are stealing money. You are being payed to protect the people in this arena! Do your job!" He runs up to the hooligans and swings twice at the second hooligan (holding the bag) yet again. He attempts to make the blows non-lethal, but if there is no way to do that without making his attack accurate, then he goes for the kill.
Ednyss. The two tunnel guards stand firm, and are attacked by two of the Hooligans who miss, but Hooligan #3 shoves guard #3 prone and runs 30’ down the hallway, heading for the exit. Ednyss, closing with the others, and with two quick blows, smashes both Hooligan #1 (carrying the money bag) and Hooligan #2, and the impacts send them slamming into opposite sides of the tunnel, and both fall unconscious. The money bag flies in the air, and coins explode out and roll in all directions. Guard #2 runs after Hooligan #3 and, drawing his hammer, connects but doesn’t knock him down.
The four other guards come alive after Ednyss wakes them from their stupor, and they move to defend the bet-taker and help the injured Guard #1. Security guards are moving toward the other brawls.
Haniah and two other acolytes, who had already stood and were making their way to Mittens while watching him, see his illusion and, exchanging looks, respond right away. Shouting, “Make way, make way!” they run down the stairs and help each other down onto the floor, but as soon as they land, a pair of security guards stops them, too, from proceeding any further.
Meanwhile, on the arena floor, a lanky chimp guard runs after Mittens and successfully grapples him.”NO SPECTATORS allowed on the Floor!”
The priest of Ellosh beside Kavalenko casts Protection from Poison on Benita successfully. Yet his peaceful countenance disappears as, looking up and seeing with anguish that Varielky is in the same condition, he says, his face now wracked with guilt, to her and Kavalanko, “I am sorry, but I have asked of Ellosh as much as I can today! There were many wounds to mend during the gladiator fights, in the crowd, and a woman who should have known not to come gave a complicated birth under my care under the stands!”
Before he has finished, Kavalanko shoves him out of the way, grabs the guard holding Mittens by the shoulder and, yelling in his face, “GET THE HEAD OF SECURITY! RUN!!!” And takes Varielky’s arm, walking her to the Section 2 entry as the guard sprints ahead of him, holding his helmet to keep it from flying off.
As Benita’s gaze shifts back-and-forth between Varielky, the Priest, and Bali, still immobile, the light starts to come back into her eyes, as do tears. “Varielky! I...I didn’t mean…” And she stands, sobbing quietly, her eyes on Bali, and follows Varielky and Kovalenko, her feet dragging in the sand, but with quiet determination to help her friend if she can.
A light rain starts to fall, and a magically enhanced voice audible to all firmly begins “Arena guests, please remain in your seats,” and repeats the phrase every few seconds.

Without much of another choice, Ednyss continues slamming his war pick into the hooligan who is now holding the guard and the money bag. Worried for the safety of the other guard and any possible bystander, Ednyss taunts, "You just keep picking on the smallest guy. Why don't you 'pick' on someone your own size?"

Mittens tries to vault over the railing, but he ends up eating dirt when he lands. He quickly stands up and spits out a mouthful of sand as blood runs from his nose. He begins rushing towards the combat, and when he is in range, he shouts out, "Hey lady! You need to relax!" as he slams his staff into the ground under him and casts frostbite on her. He hopes that the cold from his spell will bring her back to her senses, or at least get her more easily subdued.
Action: cast frostbite on Benita. DC 14 constitution saving throw or take 2 cold damage and have disadvantage on their next attack.
Benita should have kept her footing, and she should have been able to withstand Mittens’ spell, but she fails both saves. Varielky, who now sees Mittens, shoves Benita la Cass prone, and the beautiful Indallian fighter also takes 2 HP cold damage from Mittens spell. Surprised at this combined attack including a spell from an unknown assailant, Benita’s passion evaporates for a moment, and it being the only thing holding her up, she tries to stand but can only make it to hands and knees. Too involved in combat to notice before, Varielky sees she looks very pale, and her abdomen is spasming. Benita looks at Varielky with sudden understanding, her breath fast and shallow. “Help...me…”
Kovalenko and the priest of Ellosh, behind her, leave Bali and rush to her, and the Preist says, to Kovalenko, “I can save her.”
(OOC: Starting the next round, Varielky, make a CON save vs. DC20 against poison or take 1d8 per round for the next 8 rounds and be poisoned. Making the save reduces damage by 1/2.)
Ednyss strikes hooligan #2 and damages him but he’s still up. Hooligan #1 takes the money bag back, disengages and dashes through the arch, down a hallway where Ednyss sees there are two more guards running up, though flat-footed and without weapons drawn. The guards have heard the commotion and are coming up to see what’s happening.
Hooligan #2 shoves the guard prone, then (bonus action) disengages and runs through the arch.
Hooligan #3 attacks Ednyss and misses, then (bonus action) disengages and runs along with Hooligan #2.
Meanwhile, a group of 5 or 6 individual men and women in sections 11 & 12, who have been watching the action have stood and are also pursuing the Hooligans. “We won that bet! They’ve got our money!” A couple of others are moving toward the bet-taker.
Ednyss notes (OOC: with passive perception) that at least 3 brawls have broken out in other parts of the arena, but the other security guards seem to be handling things there. He sees four other guards near him who are just standing there watching, slackjawed. He also knows that there are 2 guards minimum at each arena gate, 4 at the main entry.

"Don't hurt her!" Varielky shouts at Mittens. When she notices Benita's condition, Varielky turns towards the priest. "Quickly! She needs help!" Not well versed in the workings of magic she turns to Mittens too. "Tiny warrior! Is there something you can do?" She also releases her grapple on Benita, convinced she snapped out of it.
(As far as I understand, she doesn't have to roll for this round, right? I'll throw a save in case I'm wrong though...)

Varielky
As Mittens jobs up to the small group in the arena, he says, "Sorry. I saw her attack you, so I figured I should try to help somehow." He slides the last few feet to Benita on his knees, throwing up some sand into the air, as he says, "I have some some anatomical knowledge, but I have a friend who can heal." He looks up to the air above him and makes some gestures while whispering something under his breath. A few moments later, large, shimmering words that flash and change color rapidly fill a fifteen foot space in the air above him that say, HANIA, I NEED YOU DOWN HERE. He then turns back to himself the woman beside him and tries to help her. As he does, Pooky climbs out from one of his pockets and hope down on the ground. Despite being a stuffed cat toy, he knows enough medical knowledge that he can assist.He
Action: cast silent image.
Pooky can use the Help action to assist the medicine man.

Ednyss continues to give chase, and realizing that they may still be able to get away, he shouts at the other guards that are just standing around and tries to whip them into action. "Fools! Stop the hooligans! They attacked a guard and are stealing money. You are being payed to protect the people in this arena! Do your job!" He runs up to the hooligans and swings twice at the second hooligan (holding the bag) yet again. He attempts to make the blows non-lethal, but if there is no way to do that without making his attack accurate, then he goes for the kill.

POST #9
Ednyss. The two tunnel guards stand firm, and are attacked by two of the Hooligans who miss, but Hooligan #3 shoves guard #3 prone and runs 30’ down the hallway, heading for the exit. Ednyss, closing with the others, and with two quick blows, smashes both Hooligan #1 (carrying the money bag) and Hooligan #2, and the impacts send them slamming into opposite sides of the tunnel, and both fall unconscious. The money bag flies in the air, and coins explode out and roll in all directions. Guard #2 runs after Hooligan #3 and, drawing his hammer, connects but doesn’t knock him down.
The four other guards come alive after Ednyss wakes them from their stupor, and they move to defend the bet-taker and help the injured Guard #1. Security guards are moving toward the other brawls.
Haniah and two other acolytes, who had already stood and were making their way to Mittens while watching him, see his illusion and, exchanging looks, respond right away. Shouting, “Make way, make way!” they run down the stairs and help each other down onto the floor, but as soon as they land, a pair of security guards stops them, too, from proceeding any further.
Meanwhile, on the arena floor, a lanky chimp guard runs after Mittens and successfully grapples him.”NO SPECTATORS allowed on the Floor!”
The priest of Ellosh beside Kavalenko casts Protection from Poison on Benita successfully. Yet his peaceful countenance disappears as, looking up and seeing with anguish that Varielky is in the same condition, he says, his face now wracked with guilt, to her and Kavalanko, “I am sorry, but I have asked of Ellosh as much as I can today! There were many wounds to mend during the gladiator fights, in the crowd, and a woman who should have known not to come gave a complicated birth under my care under the stands!”
Before he has finished, Kavalanko shoves him out of the way, grabs the guard holding Mittens by the shoulder and, yelling in his face, “GET THE HEAD OF SECURITY! RUN!!!” And takes Varielky’s arm, walking her to the Section 2 entry as the guard sprints ahead of him, holding his helmet to keep it from flying off.
As Benita’s gaze shifts back-and-forth between Varielky, the Priest, and Bali, still immobile, the light starts to come back into her eyes, as do tears. “Varielky! I...I didn’t mean…” And she stands, sobbing quietly, her eyes on Bali, and follows Varielky and Kovalenko, her feet dragging in the sand, but with quiet determination to help her friend if she can.
A light rain starts to fall, and a magically enhanced voice audible to all firmly begins “Arena guests, please remain in your seats,” and repeats the phrase every few seconds.
