Korrik, for surprise purposes, please also give me an active perception check as you did go into the room and actively look.
He'll slip into the room and give it a quick look
Sorry for the lack of details at this point - they will come soon, but Korrik entering the room and walking around a bit in there, going to the stairs, etc. is what is provoking the initiative.
((hmm... that second roll trumps all of the enemy rolls. In your mind, was that first roll actually an active perception roll, or was it just a typo?))
((Going back now, I didn't read closely enough and should have realized it was an initiative roll needed. My apologies for making it more confusing by rolling again!))
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
((Oh it's no problem! Then I am going with the 23 for Ben's initiative. It's only fair! The 19 perception roll is a throw away because Ben didn't get the active perception check.))
Ok, so this is how it all goes down.
Ash opens up the door and Ess makes his wtf comment. Korrik heads right into the room, takes a quick look around and then heads to the stairs and doesn't see anything other than what I've already described a few posts back.
Little did Korrik know, that the room wasn't empty. A really large spider, maybe the biggest one you've ever seen, maybe even as big as a small horse was nestled in the webs to the southwest. It noticed the door open, and it's not happy for whatever reason.
Also, there were a number of swarms of spiders, similar to the ones you saw in the attic of the smugglers mansion nestled in the webs to the north east corner of the wall.
Lastly, and maybe most disturbingly, there's a horrific looking spider-humanoid creature that is also nestled into the webs on the wall. It also saw the door open, and also isn't happy about it.
All of these creatures emerge from their webs and move to attack.
The only one who isn't surprised by all of this is Ash. She must've had a keen gaze on the room after the door opened and she sees these creatures at the same time as they emerge. (Passive perception needed to be > 14)
Everyone else is surprised for round 1, including Bimz. Korrik's mind was elsewhere hence why he didn't notice the creatures. Makes perfect sense if you ask me! Even with his active check.
The spider bite connects and the teeth sink deep into Kay. (-5) Korrik to roll the CON save for the poison.
The swarms of spiders quickly disperse and crawl up the bodies of Korrik, Ash and Ess and try to bite their faces. Korrik would find this quite familiar! They are occupying the same space as you, all over your faces.
Korrik face bites (advantage, restrained): 16 Damage: 6
The little nips don't seem to pierce Kay's skin.
Ess face bites: 22 Damage: 8
Ess isn't so lucky. "Aaaarrrggghhhh!!!! My face bros!! This again?!" (-8)
Ash face bites: 7 Damage: 10
She swats them away.
Ash is up!
Map is updated.
Ess, Korrik and Bimz will all be surprised, and so then Round 2 will begin. Therefore, Ben could queue up his round 2 turn if he wanted.
Ash, you have flashbacks from the mansion as well as the spiders are all over your furry little face. You manage to scrape a good chunk of them off, but there's still a few handfuls on you that you'll still have to deal with. (-19)
Ben, you can see the spider from where you are. The spider starts to hiss back at you but it seems to be in a lot of pain. (-10). It also immediately darts back to the southwest corner of the cabin, provoking an attack of opportunity (disadvantage though as still webbed) from Korrik.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Korrik, you hit the spider with your staff as it moves away from you. (-5)
The ugly spider-humanoid creature in the north east section of the map now moves towards the restrainedKorrik. It tries to bite and claw at him. This is an intense moment for the halfling seeing this humanoid spider creature slowly walk to him and attack.
Bite: 21 Damage: 8. On a hit, add 3 poison damage (no CON save for that). Also, CON save (DC 11) or poisoned for a minute.
(-10, need the CON)
Claws: 15 Damage: 7
Miss!
The spider darts back at Korrik and tries to bite him once again.
Bite: 21 Damage: 8. On a hit, roll a CON save. On a fail, take 8 poison damage, half on a success.
Miss!
Next up are the swarms.
Korrik face bites (advantage, restrained): 7 Damage: 10
Korrik, the spiders eat your face right off... down to the bone. (-17). You fall to your knees, and then to the floor, face bleeding out.
Ess face bites: 21 Damage: 9
"AAAARRRGGGHHHH!!!!" Ess's face is bleeding badly. (-14)
((pssst I also need Ben's initiative roll!))

Ok, just getting all of this together! I just need Korrik's active perception check as per above and then I'll run it.
Thanks all

Round 1: Ben, Ugly Creature, Giant Spider, Swarms, Ash, Ess, Korrik, Bimz
Ben is surprised.
The ugly creature omits a web-like substance from its abdomen and tries to hit Korrik with it. 14
and the web sticks to Korrik. He is restrained. Strength check as an action on turn to escape.
The giant spider scuttles from the web and tries to bite the now webbed Korrik.
Bite: 23 Damage: 6
Also, if hit, 2 poison damage, half on a DC 11 CON save.
The swarms of spiders (there's 3 of them) are up next, but I will continue in a new post.
((I know the answer is almost certainly no, but I have to ask... Is the glob of web a 'missile' that he could deflect?))
((Assuming not... CON Save: 16))

(Round 1: Ben, Ugly Creature, Giant Spider, Swarms, Ash, Ess, Korrik, Bimz)
Ash draws a second dagger and tries to slice-and-dice the spider swarm that she just narrowly avoided, which is crawling all over her…
Attack action: Attack: 18 Damage: 8 (piercing damage)
Bonus attack: Attack: 10 Damage: 3 (piercing damage)
…if either hits, add 11 sneak attack damage (from Ess being within 5ft?).
