Erika, quietly, shifts over to Areon's position, trying not to wake the others just yet. In a whisper, "That does not sound good at all, though I can't quite make out what it is. What can you see?"
OOC the bodies being munched, are they humanoid? And are they in the direction that the mercs were?
Erika give a perception check on the bodies. Straight check.
Areon the horses are terrified but they haven't panicked yet. They're still hobbled together and seem paralyzed by fear...

“But no living man am I! You look upon a woman...You stand between me and my lord and kin. Begone, if you be not deathless! For living or dark undead, I will smite you, if you touch him.” ― J.R.R. Tolkien, The Return of the King
Erika strains her eyes, looking intently at the bodies, hoping that they do not belong to their few remaining allies.

"Areon... the dome is shielded from the outside. I can light up one of your regular arrows, and you can let it fly. Either into that creature... or far beyond it, to draw it off."
"If that is one of our friends being eaten, the choice will have been made for us." She raises one hand, in a closed fist, as she tries to make out the details.
Erika it's most definitely eating a party member the looks like Garth, Vanya is motionless on the ground beside the horror, and Dolan as well as the scribe are not visible.

"Dritt... dritt dritt dritt!" Erika realizes what she is seeing, and casts light on Areon's arrow, to be a beacon in the darkness. "Into it! NOW! May the Stormfar's hand guide your bolt!"
Action: Cast Light on the fletching of Areon's arrow
Bonus Action: Bardic Inspiration (Areon, 1d8)
"Everyone, UP! Our friends are in trouble!"she says, almost shouting.
Ragnar grumbles and swats at imaginary insects around his head as he’s roused from slumber.
”Is it second watch . . .” he begins but then trails off as he follows Erika’s and Areon’s gazes out into the night and sees some sort of creature in the dark.
Ted bolts up groggily, “Yes, mother?” He cries, a panicked expression on his face as he looks around, catching his bearings. As he stands up, he looks on in horror at the foul creature ahead, before nodding, or is he just shaking? At Ragnar and Erika. “I guess we’ve got to run out there and grab them then? Do you think I’ll be allowed into Valhalla if I die alongside you?”
"Continue to fight bravely," Ragnar says as he finally staggers to his feet. "And die in battle and there will always be room for Tedbane in Valhal."
Ragnar looks around to make sure everyone else is awake before swinging back to Ted and grabbing his shoulder.
"But remember sometimes the gods aren't paying attention. Do not let go of your rapier. If you die without your weapon in hand they might decide you didn't really die in battle and send your to Hellheim."

Surprise Round Clarification- Acting almost as one, Erika moves out of the dome just before Areon draws his bow. As the half-elf prepares his attack outside the dome, arcane light affixes to the fletching as he pulls back the arrow.
Move - Outside the Dome (before Areon)
Action + Reaction (held for Areon to draw the arrow) Light
Bonus Action (Bardic Inspiration, per last post)
Erika and Areon should be outside the dome, armed and ready.
Erika casts light on Areon's arrow she feels a weird lull. If you cast a spell requiring a saving throw the target gets advantage.
Both Areon's arrows hit. While one of the arrows illuminates its target in the beetle like hide of the horror the beast rears back from Garth's mangled corpse with a screech. The light seems to irritate it but that's it, no other indicators of stronger feelings.
As Areon stands there outside the dome other shadowy figures come into view. The move over the land as if in a mist, the gaseous forms of three specters appear in Areon's line of sight.
Erika can not see these new foes. She can only the arrow flashing in the horror and the Ioun blessed stick from Zira giving of a candle glow around her in the pitch black Waste the new moon over head giving no light.
Round 1
Ted is up.
Areon prepare. (Still need to re-roll for the spell effect per my PM instruction)
