Dzaan stands under the gently-glowing disc, holding the spider jar in his right hand. He stands, looking pensive as he glances around you searching for a sign that somehting has happened.
He waits a few minutes, but nothing seems to happen. He opens the jar and touches the spider; nothing.
"Erm, maybe the spider isn't enough of a spark? Maybe it needs something - someone - bigger?"
"Are there any notes here on the device? It might also need something more specific? Most of my spells do?" She studies the device and looks about the room for anything that may be of help. investigation6

Carric stands silently watching the attempt to use the spider's lifeforce to work magic on Dzaan. He's beginning to get worried. Something seems not right about this whole procedure. It seems to him that this sort of tampering may be unwise. He thinks on all he has heard from the Dzaan construct, wondering if all is not as it seems.
Insight to Determine if this might be some sort of trick 15
Max frowns as it looks like the spider will not help Dzaan come to life. He smiles and gives a thumbs up to Thirteen and looks back and forth among the party members in anticipation.
‘There are some very strange looks on peoples faces right now. Am I making a mistake? I’m not in the mood to end my days right here, I was hoping I could help. But not die.’
Thirteen steps back, a little concerned that he’s put his foot in it….
As Thirteen seems to offer himself as a spark, Dzaan looks surprised and then curious: "Well, I really don't know. I guess, if you're alive? Do you have a soul? Sorry, no offence meant. Let's try though!"
Carric stands nearby, observing the simulacrum of the absent wizard and pondering on everything that has transpired.
@Carric:
It is curious, trying to read an artificial being. But the likeness must be uncanny as the twitches, quirks of the face all mimic a living creature. So far the simulacrum has seemed honest, insofar as it believes the machine can bring it to life and that a living creature is required for the process - it (Dzaan) also seems honest in its ignorance of the potential consequences.
As Thirteen starts to hold back, Dzaan deflates but nods "I am asking a lot, I know. I have no idea of the possible consequences of this process. But it would make little sense to create a device that would take life in order to give life, no? That would be no net gain. But if you would not be able to help then I will await my creator and hope that he can decipher the machine"
Max's eyes go wide as he starts to realize that this would be the ultimate sacrifice for Thirteen and lowers the thumbs up, "I thought maybe Thirteen could just give you a little push and jump out of the way...maybe we can find a helpful volunteer back in town? Or maybe there is another magical way you magical folks may be able to research?"
Eerie looks around the room. "There has to be something here that can help us!" She searches the room thoroughly, moving anything that has fallen to the ceiling, studying what she can reach of the wall.
Taking his cue, Virjor finally steps forward in front of Thirteen: "Enough! We will not risk our lives for someone we have only just met. Although Carric's opinion of you being as real as any of us seems fair, anyone asking this of another must learn what the rest of us often feel; disappointment."
During Virjor's talking Lucius has been weaving in and out of Thirteen's legs protectively and is now sat by the warforged side, nodding along.
Virjor goes on: "I have made it my very purpose in this life to discover magical artifacts and learn all I can around harnessing their power and although I have only been travelling with this motley-crew a short time, I will not risk any their lives on this pursuit" Virjor looks surprised by his own words but continues: "You have my sympathies, but this appears to be a distraction from our true mission, which is to save the area from the never-ending winter. If you can't help with that, then it's past time we leave."
Virjor glances over nervously at Krintass. (To check if the construct looks ready to fight after these words): Perception: 21

As Virjor talks, Dzaan's expression changes from sorrow to brooding thoughtfulness and then anger. He looks past the wizard's shoulder to his wight companion...
Krintass is indeed moving; he lunges towards Virjor and attempts to push him under the circle!

Thirteen barges foward. "Not sure whether I count but I would rather use myself than danger anyone else. Should I pray to anyone Dzaan?!"

Eerie moves around the room trying to see if any clues can be uncovered. Dzaan twitches slightly, then says "Please...I'd really like you to help"
Krintass shifts his weight slightly, hands by his side as he stands in the doorway.
"Virjor, do you trust this man?" says Thirteen as he hovers a few feet away from Dzaan and away from the area under the disc?
"If so, I will continue my original path and step under the disc to help. I do have a soul. Probably the only part of me that is truly alive."
Waiting for a nod from Virjor...
Eerie looks to Dzaan as she searches, "Does it take the life that is used or only use it like a spark? I worry about my friend's offer to help."
"I think...just a spark" says Dzaan. He seems uncertain, but also hopeful.
