You ward a creature within range against attack. Until the spell ends, any creature who targets the warded creature with an attack or a harmful spell must first make a Wisdom saving throw. On a failed save, the creature must choose a new target or lose the attack or spell. This spell doesn't protect the warded creature from area effects, such as the explosion of a fireball. (The important part that leads to my question in Moon Path) If the warded creature makes an attack, casts a spell that affects an enemy, or deals damage to another creature, this spell ends.
Moon Path :
You create a ribbon of glowing, silvery, translucent force, that connects two spots in a straight path. It's up to 150ft long, from 3 to 20 feet wide (you may change the width over the path's length), and 1/4 inch thick. Its starting and ending points can be located anywhere (including midair), and the surface of the ribbon can be oriented as the caster wishes (it can be positioned as a bridge or as a wall, for example). When you cast Moon Path, you choose up to 10 creatures to be protected while standing on the ribbon, granting them the effects of the sanctuary and spider climb spells for the duration of the Moon Path (these boons are lost as soon as the path is left). The surface of the ribbon cannot be physically crossed, and blocks spells, breath attacks (like that of a dragon), gaze effects (such as that of a Medusa) and ethereal travel.
Now I understand that with the spider climb you can orient the bridge on its side, straight up and upside down, thus using the path like a wall or shield (just like a wall of force spell).
My question that I've been searching for weeks is this...
What happens to the sanctuary part of the spell if you attack a creature (say like looking over the edge of the path and shooting at it, thus getting 3/4 cover until you pull back)? Does it act like the actual spell with it ending? Or is just a similar effect that is "like" sanctuary? The reason I ask is that spells seem to be set up as "all or none " for effects so far. Since Moon Path only said that the boons are lost if you leave the path, I would rule that the sanctuary remains (You have to make a WIS save to attack the creature, I'm sure a 5th level spell is probably going to be better than a 1st) . Unless I find a reason not to do this or an official ruling, this is the way I would play it.
I can only find a 3.5e version, not an official version for 5e.
In any case, if I was DMing I would assume that the Sanctuary part of the spell ends on a creature if it breaks any of the Sanctuary spell's restrictions.
Ah sorry, my DM must be using the semi-official D&D 5e homebrew version of the official AD&D 3.5 spell listed in the D&D Beyond archives. Still would love to know if my question was ever rectified in the AD&D 3.5 system.
Hmmm, found the official Faith & Avatars campaign set that it originally came from (2nd edition). And the 3rd edition version of it in the Player's Guide to Faerun. Also, in the Wizards of the Coast Spell Compendium (AD&D 3.5) But no answers to my question... I guess it will be up to the DM then :)

Here is what I was able to find online in the moon path spell description from 3.0 (couldn't find a 3.5 update) :
This works exactly like the 1st-level spell sanctuary except [cut unrelated] any subject of the spell who attacks breaks the sanctuary effect for all subjects.
And Drat... just learned it was because I had the Homebrew option checked off in my character sheet, so I turned that off and it was no longer an option... and besides was also just told it is a spell for clerics of Elistree only. AH well, thought I had just gotten a neat new spell.

1st off a little bit on both spells.

I would love to read your opinions on this.

Where is the Moon Path spell from?
I can only find a 3.5e version, not an official version for 5e.

It'd be pretty broken to have your entire party unable to be attacked, but able to make attacks.
But since "moon path" is not an official spell in d&d 5e, it is hard to make a proper ruling.
